Allowing how insipid this sort of Dear Abby psychoanalysis is, it's my feeling that these contracts are the devastating end of the road for some of these girls. It's the Eldorado they work toward through all the demeaning gonzo dues, and when they finally arrive there the realization of how empty and meaningless it is is possibly to much for many to handle. That legions of these young women seem to hold out hope that there's some kind of mainstream success awaiting them if they play the game right is very interesting and sad. I reckon that getting that contract and still feeling like, and being referred to as, a "whore" probably causes all those delusions to begin to fray. While they're in the trial by fire gonzo phase they can perhaps face the hardship with a Dostoevskian philosophy about it all. But getting the contract and still finding themselves squarely in the gutter makes such a detatched perspective impossible, possibly.
