By all means, let your desperation show. Myself, I like Durer, Brueghel, Rousseau, and Walton Ford, painterwise. Composerwise I like Chopin, Satie, Debussy, and on the bombastic side Mahler.

Painters - Vermeer and van Gogh are the two I enjoy the most. But, I don't know enough about the subject of painting to have a very informed opinion. Composers - I have played the cello for 20 years now, so there are many. But my favorites would have to be: Bach(for his six suites for cello) Mussorgsky(for The Great Gates of Kiev) Prokofiev(for some unbelievably challenging cello pieces) Liszt(for his pure fucking genius and his piano compositions) Beethoven(for his 9th symphony) Tchaikovsky(for his violin concerto and his piano concerto) Haydn(for his two cello concertos) Mozart(Although he is the trendy one that everyone likes, and certainly not the best despite his popularity, I do rather enjoy some of his operas. Namely The Marriage of Figaro. His Requiem is also fantastic, specifically the Sanctus.) Handel(for The Messiah) That's a good start. I could also name some overrated composers that I hate, but why be so negative and mention a charlatan like Aaron Copeland when it's not necessary.

I could listen to P. D. Q. Bach's opera The Stoned Guest again and again, as long as there's a five year wait between hearings.
I like Peter Schickele's version of Beethoven's 5th Symphony, with the two sports announcers doing commentary.
I like to start each day with the art of Scott Adams. His drawings of people are about what you would expect from an engineer accustomed to drawing schematics.
I'm disappointed that the Sex Pistols never got around to covering Das Lied von der Erd. Johnny Rotten sang with such poignancy.
I like Berg's Lulu Suite, which is about 25 minutes of atonal music interrupted by 10 seconds of screaming soprano. That's all the soprano does; scream for 10 seconds. The music is taken from the opera Lulu, which has a plot that goes something like this: boy meets murderous social-climbing stepmother, boy gets murderous social-climbing stepmother, murderous social-climbing stepmother murders boy's father, boy loses murderous social-climbing stepmother, boy reunites with murderous social-climbing stepmother after she becomes a prostitute, boy is murdered by one of stepmother's customers, stepmother and lesbian lover are murdered by Jack the Ripper.
Obviously, if she were alive now, she'd be posting here and performing with Mellisa Lauren.
Toe, I noticed that you seem to have a thing for cellos. Is this in any way connected to your thing for bottoms?

i hate art, it distracts me. i realized this after i spent over an hour staring at a severini print. my parents have a tom phillips that's actually resistant to adderall, i stay away from it.
music-i like classical until you hit the cage/glass nonsense. i like living fifteen minutes away from levinson's headquarters more.

Speaking of painters, I prefer surrealists, ole Dali or that Swiss man H.R. Giger (who is after creatures from "Alien" and "Species", speaking of his more commercial works).
Composers, I'd name Brahms, Bach and Beethoven from old days and Toshiaki Tsushima from contemporary times.

I have to go with Andy Worhal and Mapplethorpe because they really pushed the envelope and opened peoples minds about what art can be.As far as composers Chopin,Tchaikovsky and Bach are the only ones I feel enough to stay awake.
Almost forgot big ups to Andrew Wyeth.He made what people considered art cool for a kid to look at.
