I was up late last night, and switched on the satellite channels - I came across MY NAME IS SAM, in which Sean Penn plays a mentally retarded dude who has a six year old girl.
The plot revolves around the girl being more intelligent that Sam (Sean), and Sam (Sean) doing all he can to win the girl back after a court rules he is just too mentally subnormal to take care of her. Michelle Pfeiffer pops up as a very attractive lawyer who helps Sam (Sean) win his daughter back; she also develops a weird sexual interest in Sam (Sean).
NEVER MIND THAT, HOW THE HELL DID SAM (SEAN) COME BY A SIX YEAR OLD GIRL?
Who was the mother? And, and, and...?
What a stupid fucking plot.
My crime is that I missed the first 10 minutes of the film.

PS. A good performance by Sean (Sam), but, boy, did he get on my fucking nerves after 30 minutes. It was like a cross being Dustin Hoffman in Rainman and that terrible film Harrison Ford (also mentally retarded...in the film) did.

According to a plot synopsis I read on amazon, he knocked up a homeless chick, who dumped the kid on his doorstep one day.

By the way, it's called I am Sam
