and in favor of laws that require that people make every attempt to back away or escape before opening fire.

I was almost with you until that line.

That is the most unreal reaction I could ever think of. If I am forced to use a gun, and I legally carry one every day remember I am an ex LEO, I am not backing anywhere. That move could very well get me killed.
Let me see if I got what you were saying. If I have an attacker putting my life, or the life of another, in danger: You think I should take some part of my attention off this individual and seek a place to withdraw? Wouldn't that put me, and or another, in more danger by not focusing on my attacker? I'm sorry but all my training goes very much against that idea, and my training must have been good. I’m still here. I will keep 100% of my attention on the threat; if he, or she, is smart they can withdraw. But if they were smart they wouldn't be being a threat.
How does your statement make since to you? Please explain as that mindset is one I do not understand. Why has society come to the belief that it is the law-abiding citizen that has to give ground to the scum of the earth? In that way of thinking I am the one that is thought to be in the wrong and yet I attacked no one. I just stopped one that was being perpetrated on me.
Liberal thinking like you posted will get you killed and the bad guy set free to prey on the next guy. Hey people stop being pusses. If you are attacked or threatened, put a fucking stop to it. Don't cower and give in. The next time, the attacker you withdrew from, may decide to kill someone. And how would you feel if it was a family member?
You could feel good about yourself by telling everyone. Well at least I ran and didn’t cause any harm to the poor underprivileged disenfranchised down trodden poor soul.
Me I'll do my best to be able to tell them: Well I shot the fuck out of that asshole. Now he is a good guy.
