A mum bought her children a cartoon on DVD as a treat - but was horrified to find it actually contained a hardcore pornographic film.

Fatima Laaroussi, of Barton Hill, bought a copy of My Little Pony - The Movie from Woolworths' branch in the Mall Galleries shopping centre in Broadmead.
The company has pledged to investigate how the adult film came to have been labelled and packaged as a U-rated children's cartoon.

The mother-of-three says she left her children Nadia, aged seven, Salina, five, and four-year-old Mohammed to watch the DVD in an upstairs bedroom.

But when they came downstairs and told her something was wrong with the film she went to investigate - and says she was horrified to find that instead of the cartoon advertised on the DVD's printed label and case, the children had been watching an adult movie containing graphic sexual scenes.

Mrs Laaroussi, 39, said: "Can you imagine my horror when I saw this filth on the screen?

"My children were expecting to watch their favourite film but instead they were subjected to watching this X-rated rubbish. When they told me that something was wrong with the film, I watched a few moments and saw a naked woman in a seductive pose surrounded by naked men."

Mrs Laaroussi says she feels lucky the children grew bored with the adult content of the film and switched it off after just a few minutes.

But she said: "What would have happened if my children had watched it all? It would certainly have scarred them for life."

Mrs Laaroussi paid ?1.99 for the DVD. She said: "My kids nagged and nagged me to get them the film and I told them I would if they kept their rooms clean. I bought it as a surprise and, after their rooms were cleaned, I gave it to them."

Mrs Laaroussi said the DVD was sealed when she took it off the shelf at Woolworths.

She said: "I had no reason to think something was dodgy with it. It looked normal.''

The Evening Post has seen the case and packaging, all of which clearly indicates that the DVD is a genuine copy of My Little Pony - The Movie.

But the film itself is a porn movie with a cowboy theme, called Heartache.

Woolworths yesterday said it would investigate Mrs Laaroussi's complaint.

A spokesman said: "Woolworths can confirm that it has received a complaint regarding a video sold at its store in the Mall Galleries shopping centre Bristol. We have asked the customer to return the video so we can replace it for her. Once we have received it we will contact the supplier and conduct an investigation.''

The DVD's distributors, Enfield-based Prism Leisure Corporation Plc, was not available for comment last night.
