I've gotta say that Mattis is the least troublesome of Der Fuhrer's appointments, in my book, but that's probably also why you're one of the very few Drumpf supporters I could drink a beer with. Is this what passes for bi-partisanship in this day and age? I dunno. Look at the county comparison.
Yeah, there are all sorts of different ways to look at this, all of which are equally worthless. For example, Trump won 2600 counties to Clinton's 500, which works out to 83% of the country, geographically. And on the other side, Clinton won the popular vote by a good margin, but there were places like New York, Chicago and the entire West coast where Trump didn't even bother to campaign. Trump won fair and square using the established rules of our election system. He had an actual message compared to, "I'm a woman and I'm not Trump." And he campaigned like crazy in the final days, pushing himself over the top in several key Blue states. It's maybe the greatest political achievement in American history.

Our forefathers realized this thank God. There were also concerns about lack of education and info in far removed populations and slavery at the time played a role as well. Some say the electoral system is outdated. That may be true but my feeling is that it should only be modified if so and not done away with. Here's a look at the popular vote. Chart

Founding fathers figured out that if you used popular vote to determine President the boondocks would have no say in the government. The only places candidates would campaign in would be Boston, Philadelphia, and New York. The electoral college was created to balance the scales to a degree. This year Hillary won the popular vote by two million but if you look at the results by land area in the form of counties Trump won 83% of the area. If you just let the big population centers control how the country is run everyone in the country will end up moving to those population centers and you would have massive overcrowding in 5% of the country while the remaining 95% would look like U.S. 56 between I-25 and Dodge City, Kansas.

If the extent of the Russians "interfering" in the election is that they gave some emails to WikiLeaks, that still doesn't compare to the 95% of the media being in the tank for Hillary.
