In my observation, the less $$$ that goes to the whore, the better the performance (in cases where I have a general idea what wage has been paid). The inverse of this is that the higher the wage, the less "bang" for your $$$. This is probably because the more desperate the whore, the more they will need the scraps they are offered, and the more they will allow themselves to be degraded. Paying them more will only make them complacent.
