I gave this a go as more of a challenge, rather than to save money. A bag of frozen vegetables, as Rear Admiral suggested, would have been easier and much more cost effective than going mostly fresh. The pineapple was canned and the peas were frozen.

Yeah, I'm only suggesting Panzer look into cooking up his own fried rice as a means of advancing his mission of frugality. In the photo of his preferred rice, there are bits of char siu (barbecued pork), and preparation of that would increase the cost and complexity if char siu is required.
My time is $650 per hour, but I still get some enjoyment out of cooking. Obviously not during the week, weekends only.

It was Roasted Pork Fried Rice and the red bits are roasted pork and the white bits are the onions. It cost $3.50 for a pint.

Good choice. If I could get to a Chick-fil-A, I'd be a happier man. The food is great, and it would feel so good to stick it to the totalitarian left. I support the idea of letting homos get married, but find it absolutely abhorrent that nobody's allowed to disagree. I so hope the Democrats put gay marriage in their party platform, because it will animate all their brownshirts (rainbow shirts?) to get out and alienate everyone in America.
Plus, since Antoine Dodson approves of my choice to eat at Chick-fil-A, I could be relieved that eating there just means I like delicious chicken and waffle fries, and not that I'm a H8R.

Oh I'm all for this push from the left. It's one giant Get Out The Vote effort for Mitt Romney aimed at the evangelicals, who've been quite soft on him, until now. They're starting to believe a Mormon would make a much better president than a socialist. There is even a group of black ministers (about 3000) that are organizing to vote against Obama or stay home on election day. Antoine is right, the waffle fries are off the hook.

I just grilled the tastiest damned chicken. I pounded a boneless/skinless chicken breast out to an even 3/4" thickness and marinated it with: fresh ground pepper, cayenne, some kind of chipotle spice rub, some olive oil and a few splashes of champagne vinegar. Then 4 minutes per side on a 1000° grill, changing the grilling angle once on each side to get the classic cross-grill marks. I put almost no effort into this and it turned out awesome.

There is a small Chinese restaurant in a nearby Ky. town that is primarily take out but has a few tables for sitting. It is in the back part of a parking lot basically in an alley. Everyone calls it "Ghetto Chinese". The store is a bit run down but recently was remodeled and gets an "A" on its health scores. I know the health inspector and he's tough. So its a genuine score. Everything is cooked in front of you. They politely ask you what you want in broken Engrish and then turn and scream belligerently in Chinese your order ! It's funny as hell. They have the best Garlic Chicken I've ever eaten. It's served over pork fried rice. The rice is shimmering with oil and has large chunks of pork and onions in it. The chicken is in big chunks along with broccoli and carrots and mushrooms. It comes with a pretty decent egg roll for 8.95. Makes for a hell of a lunch with some left over usually.

The most ghetto Chinese place that I seen is on Beach Channel Drive on Far Rockaway, somewhere in beach 40-60s. It has only 2 tables and a bulletproof plastic glass.

Went to Smashburger today for the first time. They are fairly new around here. Ordered the Classic Smash, pretty good burger. I hated the thin fries,because they lose their warmth so quickly. I like the fact that they put a bottle of ketchup and mustard at the table instead of fucking packets, because I've picked up the habit of dipping my fries in mustard or horseradish/wasabi when I can get it. The iced tea was crap. It said fresh brewed, but it tasted instant.

We had a local burger joint that operated out of a double wide. Not matching, but a double wide. Steel tables, bottled condiments on the table. Not gourmet, just really good. Like 6 kinds of fries. Lasted about a year. We can't have nice things
