The reason is because she, like many performers, don't live in LA but come out for a week every month or so to do a bunch of scenes.

Yeah, the $3 mil is a little confusing... Sounds good in a PR though. I never ask for an amount in a complaint. It just isnt necessary. According to proof is all hes going to get anyway...

2. Didn't they publish a scandalous story to the world at large (presumably) without taking any steps to prove it was true through other sources?
3. What level of immunity do the 'press' have with defamation?
4. If they have any immunity at all, why wouldn't they set up an impecunious straw man as the source for all stories that might give rise to a claim in defamation?

2. Depends on your point of view, or who his lawyer is.
3. Depends on the person being defamed and other factors.
4. They would have to reveal their straw man or lack thereof in the discovery procress. No real benefit.
I dont agree with paperchase that Speigler is a public figure though. I really dont think NY Times applies here.

If the washing machine is in the living room then I would have to think it would not only conserve space but also to let the hookers know that they actually HAVE to wash their articles of clothing after each shoot so they dont have that nasty ass smell + jizz, etc before there next shoot or at any other appearance in public.
