Such companies pump endless amounts of money into their contract performers to sell them. Gals like Shay could readily take better advantage of said publicity but decline most opportunities to do so, limiting their value in terms of extending careers, etc. Had "Shay" wanted to do more than just fuck a handful of times a month, she'd probably still be under contract. DP secures the names for their future releases as part of insuring their investment is safe, a practice that benefits both parties even long after the contracts are over. Shay/Jasmine could work something out with them but that might take an ounce of work...
In terms of Monstar and Ms. Armani, it was clear he was earning his keep with her. Yeah, she looks much better these days and all but he's the one putting her out there for the world to see. How many covers/interviews/projects did she have before hiring him? Since?
He defends her in the spirit of the forum(s) he is on too, not shying away from XPT-like smackdowns here while taking a more appropriate approach elsewhere. I saw them together at the Circle Bar, on the show floor, and in a few casinos last week and she's definitely climbing the ladder upwards. I'll reserve my opinion of her performance abilities until I've seen more of her work but she was a lot more popular than others at the show (and if she helped some coked out loser get medical help when needed, good for her).

If you sign a contract promising to engage in various activities to promote the company & your movies, it is generally recognized that you will do that in addition to the limited amount of fucking you signed on for. Shay blogged (admittedly intermittently) for www.Xcritic.com and once in a blue moon posted on the forums there but it was like pulling teeth to get her to do even that little. The ONLY reason anyone might consider her a "big name" was due to the efforts of DP (and a fanboy reviewer that felt her inconsistent performances were all swell) and their promotional machine. She did fine in P2 but she wanted the glory without working for it (and I'm not at liberty to discuss the Gabriella Fox matter...sorry).
In general though, if you are a contract performer, you should expect to be at signings, doing promotional tours, and all sorts of other things rather than spread your legs once in awhile if you want to make it big (Jenna Jameson only made it big after Wicked Pictures poured heaps of cash promoting her, followed by Vivid and CJ, the gal kept doing all she needed to in order to earn that big payday).
