Nickey Milo posts on www.pornstarperformance.com: A lot of talent are calling me looking for work. Cost to shoot a scene in LA is getting ridiculous...Programs are cutting back on exclusives...DVD is dead...illegal tube sites keep popping up...consumer confidence doesn't exist... My advice to porn producers/model agencies is to cut your rates or you'll be out of biz sooner then later..2009 is going to be TIGHT and custom content demand will be way down. What we will also see is a ton of new girls this year, because of the poor economy they will jump into porn...just no one will be booking them. Next year will be another shake out year, for content producers and websites. Work is getting slower and slower. My big client said no more talent over $900 for a bg scene. A lot of them are fallowing, so if you want to work contact your agent and tell them you will be willing to work for that price. Work will start be heading back overseas and to places like Miami where the same model gets a lower price than she does in los angeles. Whats up with that! Letws work hard to keep the adult biz here. I'm not a fan boi and have never been. But I support the women and what they have to go through and prepare for a scene which includes men. That's what was being paid 20-30 years ago! You don't think it should have risen much more by now? High end escorts make more than that an hour. But you don't think the women who have it recorded to the masses where more money will be made for the producers and directors should get much more for their work?

$800 is too HIGH now. That's the same price it was a few years ago and that doesn't take into account the porn economic meltdown (caused by the perfect storm of glut, piracy and bad economy). For the adult industry to survive, the cost of production needs to fall and/or fans need to start supporting producers again by actually buying the product.
Porn is a commercial business first and foremost and the free market will determine rates -- not agents, not producers, not the talent. It must be profitable for the producers or it will not be created, period. So long as there are girls willing to perform at lower rates so be it. Even if they earned $300, 400 or 500 a scene, it still beats working all day at Walmart as a cashier for $56. And that's the next best alternative for many starlets.

I acknowledge there's few high end escorts who can charge exorbitant rates, but I still believe the majority of porn chicks would never be able to break into that circle. Even a good number of established porn stars who venture into escorting apparently can only get the going rate on CL judging by the frequent ads that pop up. Porn "stars" really aren't all that special anymore. The girls come in and out of the industry at a furious clip, and most barely even make an impression now. It's a stretch to call most of the performers in porn "stars" today.

It's not all about money.
These points have been made 1000x before, but here goes again: There are other reasons why a girl might choose to become a porn star rather than pure hooker. Hooking is not legal, shooting porn is (at least in California). You can also legitimately think of yourself as a "model" or adult "movie star" rather than outright prostitute. Also, adult movies sets are generally safe, controlled environments with known people. When you are a hooker, your next John may be your last if you meet the wrong guy (think Green River Killer here). You also may be exposing yourself to more risk of STDs. Lastly, being a porn star does afford you some degree of fame and glamor. For girls who enjoy the attention, this is priceless.

Most of us would rather work than sit home twiddling our thumbs (or other appendeges) and most of us are shooting here in the Valley for these rates already as you well know BUT, sometimes you get what you pay for in production quality.
