Thanks free. What is aggravating is that I like pretty much all of the things the filkers are into. I get the jokes, it's that I can't fucking stand acoustic folk rock music. From doing a bit of poking around I think the social aspect of it might be more important then the music. I love Bolt Thrower and other variations of fantasy metal so I'm not unfriendly towards nerd music. These Ontario filkers seem to be utter bastards. Check out this flier. It probably wouldn't seem that bizarre to you unless you knew that Lablaws isn't really a music venue. It's a grocery store and I will be doing my shopping elsewhere that day.

@loopnode: Was seeing them live fun at least (and are you talking about the team in the video I posted or other filkers)?
I do like Star Trek but I think I realized after watching more filk videos that the part I find offensive is not the acoustic music, it's that they try too hard to force the references to geeky shit into the music.
What I am getting at is you can only make Monty Python (or whatever equally nerdy thing) reverences every so often before they become predictable and stupid.
It's boring. Like watching someone masturbate to the idea of their own awesome cleverness.
But at the same time these folks so firmly and shamelessly embrace their geekery that I kind of like them on a personal level just for that. They are having a good time and from what I can tell all of their events free to attend (and you would probably be a big hit if you brought some snacks).
I'm curious what your impressions were because I really like this kind of thing in theory. Also I would like to know what someone who doesn't get all the internet/c'thulhu/star trek references thinks.
Sorry, rambly post, people kept on telephoning me while I was writing and I got distracted.

Wow! The Klingon makes death metal vocals more guttural sounding than usual. I'm not going to look for more but this made me smile, thanks Loop. But I have to admit I thought that was pretty fucking awesome.

I got the CD from this last week. This makes me want to track down the DVD. Tough call between Tal Wilkenfeld and Tina Weymouth for best female bassist ever. High marks for Tina on this. I'm the most pathetic dancer ever and I can even move to this.

Dunno if you remember Night Music . It was on NBC in 1990 and maybe a little later and it was hosted by David Sanborn and Jools Holland. Anyhoo, they had everyone from the Chilis to Miles Davis to LL Cool J on.
