(DENVER, CO.) -- The religious right and the press have an interesting double standard as it applies to religion and pornography. This stranglehold is very typical of
the current political/legal environment.

Over the years, how many times have we read in the paper or heard on TV that a man was arrested for rape, child pornography or some other sexual crime, only to immediately be informed that the search warrant on this individuals home produced "pornography"? Of course, they never specify what "pornography is. They may have seized one Playboy from 1968 used to prop up an uneven table leg, but it is still simply and generically referred to as
"pornography". Of course, leading to the myth that LEGALLY produced magazines/movies cause ILLEGAL actions.

This approach as it pertains to the seizing of pornography is just as often applied to crimes that are not of a sexual nature whatsoever. "A gang member was arrested today for the gang related slaying of another youth.

When a search warrant was served on the killer's house, pornography was found on his computer" Why not announce they also found Cup of Noodles and Oreos in the cabinets in the kitchen? After all, it is just as random a
find and has just as much to do with the gang related, turf war killing as the pornography found on his computer.

Now, quite in the reverse. Even in directly religious based killings, no similar mention is made. Today, I read in the press that a woman bashed the heads of her two children in, with rocks, in Texas. She claims that "God made her do it". Of course, at the bottom of the article, there is no
mention made of any bibles, crucifixes or any other form of religious icon/relic seized during the search of her home.

Keeping those two examples in mind, why do we suppose this is? Why are people who kill in the name of God just considered crazy and religion gets to walk away from it without so much as a scratch? Why does the same act
of murder performed by a guy with 6 adult movies his house, immediately blamed on the pornography? Why do we use the murder to seek a further
moratorium on the production and procurement of adult materials but never ask if organized religion is an idea worth looking deeper into? After all, Waco, Jim Jones and other like cults do what they do in the name of God, not
pornography. There was a lightly veiled attempt to draw attention to the sexual aspect of these cults, trying to "spin it" towards porn and away from religion but I do not think it really worked, in those cases.

People are people. They do what they do because they are somehow driven to it for either a very simple criminal reason or they are mentally unbalanced.

If it is simply a criminal act then the responsibility, according to common sense and our legal system, falls squarely on the perpetrator. If the culprit is mentally ill, then, according to common sense and our legal
system, the person is not culpable for his actions. Either way, under either circumstance, the onus of responsibility falls squarely on ONE person. No TV show, magazine, video tape, bible, crucifix or talking dog had anything to do with the killings. The individual killed for profit, revenge, jealousy, anger or because he was simply, INSANE.

I recommend that law enforcement and the press simply stick to the facts of the case instead of trying to demonize a secondary agenda item with every arrest. If you want to report irrelevant items to a case found in a search warrant, report ALL the irrelevant items. Make sure you report the Tide bottle was found half full and the Miracle Whip was 4 days past expiration. Let us not just pick ONE random item such as, "pornography".

One simply has to be careful about what one reads or sees on TV. The bias of the TV channel/newspaper decides how the article is written. I offer this example from a Denver paper a few years ago:

I was sitting in a high school social studies class and the teacher passed out an article with a picture attached to it. The article was about a man who was arrested, in his home, for being the king pin in a forged check printing / cashing ring. The picture showed a large table in this man's two car garage with hundreds of rifles and hand guns laid out on it. There was a uniformed Denver Police Officer standing at each end of the table, facing the camera. After reading the article and seeing the picture, the teacher asked us all what we thought had happened at this man's house. We all made mention of the huge illegal gun haul the Denver Police Department had just made. A topic that was huge just after the Columbine High School killings that happened 6 miles from my school and merely a month previous.

After thirty minutes of debate over the guns, the teacher simply asked why we focused on the guns. When the article itself NEVER even mentioned a firearm much less illegal firearms. As it turns out, every one of his
weapons was legally purchased, legally possessed and were never used in the commission of any crime. After the photograph was taken, all the firearms were simply placed back in the home as legally owned property. They were not seized nor was the man charged with any gun crime whatsoever.

What was happening was that Denver was fighting to enact an assault weapons ban and needed people to focus on guns whenever possible and took any chance they had to manipulate the press into doing their bidding.

The same sort of event is happening now with pornography. The conservative right has done a very good job of equating child porn with legal porn. Of
course, they are two different worlds and no one wants child porn stopped more than mainstream, legal adult movie makers. After all, this is their livelihood. They need to protect it and have no issue whatsoever with the
prosecution of people producing/selling illegal child porn.

Child porn is as much related to legal adult movies as car theft is. One has NOTHING to do with the other. One is legal, one is a CRIME. Equating the two in the press is simply attempting to demonize one event by marrying another event to it. How about we start a new random connection. I work on cars for living, therefore I am engaged in illegal breast augmentation surgeries on
the weekends. Sound stupid? It is the same ridiculous stretch they are making between LEGAL adult movies produced and directed by and for adults.

Movies in which all actors and actresses are over 18 years of age, and child pornography.

Think about it.

Last but least. I think the government has learned a little trick as it applies to the prosecution of porn/porn producers. As we saw a year or so ago with the Free Speech Coalition and Max Hardcore. If the government
makes ANY claim of child porn, even if they only mention it, the individual being prosecuted for a severely lesser crime, such as distributing obscene material, is immediately cut off from support, both emotional and financial.

Just as the Free Speech Coalition did with Max Hardcore. No one will stand up for, support or assist in anyway, an individual or group accused of disseminating child pornography. Knowing this, the government simply makes all obscenity cases ring and sound like child porn may be involved (the press has already laid this groundwork as I detailed above). That way, the
individual being prosecuted twists in the wind, all alone, with no assistance. They simply use the chilling effect of "child porn" to separate the accused obscenity offender from support so they may eviscerate the offender later, in court, when the offender has no money which to defend himself.

When this happens, and the this tactic is applied and works, we should all feel that a huge bite out of the second amendment was just taken. We were lied to and duped by the press so the government could prosecute and imprison people that, had they had access to the proper resources, would have been able to defend themselves. Just like in some live fighting, karate video games. The US Constitution has a "life meter". Right now, its down to about 70% and falling daily. As it falls, not only will pornographers feel the pinch, so will anyone who dares write papers like this one. Simple political dissent will become actionable, criminal offenses.

Colleges will start to teach what they are told to teach and
things like academic freedom will become a thing of the past.

What am I really trying to say here? I am just attempting to appeal to people's ability to reason and apply logic. Think on your own, do research and definitely do not take at face value, anything you hear the press spouting off about. The press has long been corrupted by money and a drive to sell more papers/magazines or get more people to tune into their station.

The press is all about shock value and ratings. They do not mention the Cup of Noodles in the cabinet of the killer because it is not sensational and no one will care.

Keep this all in mind next time you hear that a huge
obscenity bust of an adult web site goes down and there is just sort of an off-handed remark about possible child porn. Likelihood is that you are witness to a very vile plan that is being used to siphon off your very own
CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS.

Sexually yours,

Britni
