You can be as impressed or as unimpressed as you like with the technology behind Adult-Spider. But the fact is, this new program gets loads of free porn on your computer. And it’s results that matter. The adult-spider gimmick is by no means a new idea -- pretend you have a web crawler that automatically scours the web for free porn you want and brings it back to you, saving you the time and hassle of doing it yourself. But every claim to this effect thus far I’ve examined -- or should I say debunked -- has failed to live up to its grand promises. No-one has yet to develop a true spider or porno search engine that can look at pictures on the web, figure out what they are and bring them back to you. Google image search is the closest thing I’ve seen to that, where you can do a search on any subject and it’ll bring you back at least a few pertinent images mixed in with a lot of other crap. But don’t even try to use Google for porn pics because it just won’t work. Fact of the matter is, computers can’t look at image files or movie files and decipher what they are. They can only go by the file name or the context of the text on the page which the files are in. As we speak, programmers are working assiduously to bestow computers with the human ability to look at images and know what they are. Not just pixel counts and file size, but the content of the image -- be it sex, gardening, a still life of apples and oranges.

Technological caveats aside, Adult-Spider is pretty cool. It’s a ten-second download from www.adult-spider.com and installs effortlessly on your computer. In a few minutes you’re up and running. The no-frills interface is very easy to use. You’ve got a couple of options. You can choose to download pics, (.jpg) vids (.wmv, .avi, .mov, and .mpeg) or both. Choose how you want to display the images you download˜in thumbnail or slideshow form (the slideshow form works much better in this early version of the program). Then, hit start and let the spider do its business. You can let the thing fetch images/movies indiscriminately or select a specific category from Amateur to Voyeur and everything in between, 24 categories in all to choose from. Once the spider is running, it starts downloading files as fast as it can onto your computer. You can go to work, go to sleep, leave the computer running all night. In the morning you’ll be swimming in porn. The only thing limiting the amount of porno Adult-Spider can fetch you is your computer’s hard disk space.

The interesting thing is that Adult-Spider actually brings back, for the most part, porn in the category you request. Where is it getting these files and how does it know what they are? The Adult-Spider people have cleverly compiled over 80 thumbnail gallery posts. These posts already have thousands of pics and movie clips well organized by categories. The real utility in the browser is its file-grabbing abilities. Even though it’s called Adult-Spider, it doesn’t necessarily have to be used in the adult realm. The best feature here is that you can specify any URL and Adult-Spider will pull all the images and movie files from that site onto your computer, complete with thumbnails. It won’t categorize those files into "Black," "Hentai" and "Cumshot," but a lot of times that doesn’t matter if you want just a quick and dirty way of downloading a bunch of files from a site and you don’t feel like sitting at a computer for ten hours clicking on every link and pulling every file one-by-one from the web onto your computer. No need to deal with popups or ads or any of that shit. Once all the files are on your computer, you can search through them using the thumbnail function.
