Steward Labels Margold 'Hypocrite';
Margold Says Steward 'Unworthy' of Response

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - Blasting Free Speech Coalition Director Bill Margold as "a hypocritical, opportunistic coward," JM Productions recently produced a short video calling for the FSC's disbandment. JM Productions head Jeff Steward told AVN the "infomercial" will appear on his company's DVD and video releases starting in the early fall.
The anti-FSC spot is the latest salvo in a feud between Steward and Margold that began in July. The animosity began after Margold made disparaging remarks on Salon.com toward Steward's American Bukkake series, one volume of which was seized several months ago by Los Angeles police.
"I think the biggest thing bukkake proves is that the adult-movie industry has forgotten how to create," Margold was quoted as saying.
An angry Steward railed back on AVN.com against what he perceives as Margold's hypocrisy and failure to support the rights of fellow pornographers. A JM Productions press release stated in part: "... Bill Margold represents all that is wrong within the adult industry. In the wake of his recent ramblings against American Bukkake and hardcore adult entertainment in general, we at JM Productions look forward to exposing Bill Margold's (Anti) Freedom of Speech Coalition as the corrupt organization it truly is to both retailers and consumers alike... This infomercial will be available to all production companies who do not adhere to Bill Margold's 'Freedom of speech, but watch what you say' philosophy."
Margold had not seen the infomercial at press time, but said he was aware of Steward's press release, and commented: "These people are now in my opinion unworthy of responding to." He declined further comment.
But FSC treasurer Al Bloom said he feels Steward is "misinformed" and that the infomercial will only damage its creator.
"Bill Margold does not speak for the FSC," Bloom explained. "Bill is free to make whatever comments he wants to make on his own, but I don't believe he prefaced his remarks by saying he was representing the Free Speech Coalition. This guy [Steward] has got himself a little bit turned backwards. Whatever beef he has with Bill, he shouldn't be taking it out on the FSC or the 75 percent of the industry who support the FSC, many of whom are his customers."
Regarding the anti-FSC infomercial, Bloom said: "It's a good thing for the rest of the industry... they'll be able to identify his tapes, and they'll know who the bad guys are. I would put [Steward] out there as one of the bad guys. It's really silly of him to do that."
Steward may have more serious concerns than his tiff with Margold. In May, Los Angeles police served search warrants on the JM executive, seizing copies of his American Bukakke 11 and Liquid Gold 5. As of press time, no obscenity charges have been filed against Steward, who believes both tapes fall within California community standards.

Doesn't seem like Bill is really about Free Speech afterall. More like free money I guess. So sad.

I remember almost a year ago running into him as I was walking by his office on my way to Jim South's office. He wanted me to participate in one of those golf charity things. Well that went to another conversation more in depth of the adult industry. He asked if I was educated and doing something else with myself... and toldme it's smart that I'm doing something with myself other than relying on the industry to survive.

I briefly told him that I did wholesale distributing for companies in England with extreme sports apparel. Nothing too specific really and he jumped the gun on wanting to make a deal with me and my company to promote PAW, free speech yadda yadda.

I knew right away it was nothing but money that he was looking after when I had said its a good business if you do it properly. It was hard for him to take no for an answer so i left with a maybe and never walked by that office again nor called him as he requested.

After all who in their right mind (such as Bill (?)) would want to ask such a possibility when I strictly said that it involves minors wearing the clothing and gear and rather not mend it with the adult industry.

I did learn to just say I do other things but not talk about it. You can't do anything anymore without people getting on you hoping for a freebee of some sort.
