i just returned from going shopping for my nephew for his birthday. i got him this little train set thing that runs around and goes through a mountain, and it's pretty cool. but i was noticing while i was there, how there are absolutely no guns. i knew that toys guns have been out for quite a while now, but i didn't know it was like this bad. there was nothing at all, except for nerf dart guns and the like. i was looking at this soldier get-up, where the kid plays soldier. it came with a rubber knife, plastic grenades, and no gun. a compass, but no gun. there was a old west sheriff playset, too. vest, cowboy hat, star, even spurs. but no gun. what kind of faggot justice are we expecting these kids to dispense, without a gun? do you think this notion of keeping kids from playing with guns will only serve to make them more sexually aggressive when they get older? what if they take it out on the women, who clearly are trying to take away their manhood by not letting them have plastic uzis? what if they take it out and then ram it down the bitches throats? is it getting worse?

I'm not sure about the lack of toy guns making kids more "sexually aggressive", but i've also noticed that you don't see many of them anymore.
I had several toy guns as a kid, and I haven't killed anyone yet, so I don't really see the harm in them.
Although, I do agree with toy guns having bright orange on the end of the barrel.... as a kid I thought it sucked, but in this day and age, it's better to be safe than shot down by the cops.

my almost nine year-old was asked by santa claus what he wanted for christmas. he responded, dead fucking serious, "an automatic rifle." needless to say, he found no guns under the tree, although he did get a bow and arrow. i am sure he'll shoot his eye out, but "santa" insisted.

OMG, that's so funny! My kid's too young to really know what he wants for Christmas, so we stocked him up with Little People playsets, and a gigantic plastic kitchen, lol. He seems to dig it. He actually sat on Santa's lap too, which really surprised me... I thought he'd take one look at him and run the other way!

Growing up in South Florida in the 70s, a lot of kids had toy guns. It really wasn't a big deal. My parents even had hunting rifles and handguns, but I was taught that they were real and could be fatal. They had them locked in a safe. Later when I was 8, I had cap guns. When I was 10, I had a bb gun and was taught how to use it safely and responsibly. Things never got out of hand and I was out of my gun phase in a few months. Parents these days are irresponsible and have no relationship with their children. It's early and I'm complaining already, I know.

I'll cosign that. I believe most people should be sterilized at birth anyway.

That's a great point and not complaining at all IMO. It's all about educating your children and not letting the TV do it for you.
Playing with toy guns is what being a kid is all about!

My brother & I did nothing but play war all day with guns and plastic soldiers. Neither of us even has a gun.

As long as we're being serious here, there are no toy guns in my household or shoot 'em up videogames. There is no gun culture, period. When the time is right, my kids will be taught the right way, most likely beginning on the shooting range at summer camp as I did.
This contrasts with my brother in law, who was raised in Texas and was given a .22 rifle for his 8th birthday that he kept in his bedroom. He turned out fine, but won't carry on that tradition with his future children.
Despite my range training, I also did some things with guns that I cringe at to this day. Irresponsible, stupid things that I did with other kids, but I'd have to credit luck or divine influence in preventing any injury or incarceration.
Guns are inherently dangerous, kids are stupid, and luck has it's limits. Firearms can be great fun with proper guidance and direction, but in the absence of such oversight I think it's better just to keep them out of sight and mind.

In my house guns are looked at like a tool- no more feared than a hammer. We keep them all locked up except for my carry weapon, but the main thing is my kids don't regard them with any kind of mystique- they know the damage they can do. Maybe the biggest difference is we look at the guns as sports equipment rather than looking at them like they are some kind of terrifying uncontrollable people killer.

Bingo. In retrospect, the patches are kind of corny (DE at 50 feet and Bar 8 at 100 yards), but learning in that highly controlled environment was perfect.
