The season is almost over and after seeing the Cowboys get the ass handed to them at Texas Stadium I've come up with some thoughts.

Most overrated NFL teams:

AFC-Colts NFC-Cowboys

Hottest teams in the NFL:

AFC-Titans NFC- Eagles

Why isn't anybody talking about the Ravens!?

Teams with their arrow pointing down for 07:

Chiefs their QB-Green has lost a major step due to his injury. They have no WR's. Secondary is old and they can't stop the run. Chargers and Denver will rule the AFC WEST for the next 2-5 years

Giants- Best weapon on the team is going to retire. Not sure what to make of Manning. WR's are awful. DL is suspect with out Strahan. LB's and DB's are suspect. TE can't catch unless he's covered by Roy Williams.

Falcons- QB is awful and caint play in any NFL system. Or so it seems. WR's can't catch for shit. DE is very overrated. No team speed at LB or FS and this is why they give up so many big plays. BEst DE can't stay out of the trainers office. TE is the only true weapon.

Teams with their arrow pointing up for 07:

Titans- Young is the real deal and he'll get all the snaps in training camp. Young fast WR's Henry is a more then effective RB. The D will be better. I think Pac-Man is starting to get it..I think.

Green Bay- I think if Brett comes back this could be a play off team next year. They need more help on the OL. They have some young talent at WR. Still beed to find a game breaker at RB because Green is getting older. Hawk will be a stub at LB next year O-H...

Saints- The Offense will just get better. God, watch out for Reggie Bush. Plus they get Joe Horn back too. I think their D is small and play much better on turf. But they are going to be tough next year. Pretty good this year though

A plea to all NFL GM's..Please don't give up a draft pick for Randy Moss..not even a 7th rounder. NOT worth it. Same goes for Porter.

"With the first pick in the 2007 NFL draft the Detroit Lions select Brady Quinn"

Glad to see the Cardinals get their 3-4 "wait until next year we're going to be better wins" under their belt. They do the same shit every year.

Bye bye Mora, Shell (maybe), Coughlin and Green.

Why is Matt Millen still employed...Anybody?

Vince Young for Rookie of the year

I think the Giants will talk to Weiss about their head coaching job..and he'll leave ND with the quickness.

Cowboys draft/free agent needs in 07
QB-back up-FA
OL-FA
WR-draft
OLB-draft
FS -draft
KR-FA
DE-FA

My additions in BOLD

Most overrated NFL teams:
AFC-Colts NFC-Cowboys

Hottest teams in the NFL:
AFC-Titans NFC- Eagles

Why isn't anybody talking about the Ravens!?
The key to their success is that their offense, though not very "sexy," is efficient and doesn't turn the ball over. The defense isn't as dominant as past Raven teams -- the Bears were far superior [until the last 2 games], so they weren't going to get any "raves" there.

Teams with their arrow pointing down for 07:

Chiefs their QB-Green has lost a major step due to his injury. They have no WR's. Secondary is old and they can't stop the run. Chargers and Denver will rule the AFC WEST for the next 2-5 years. And they have Herm Edwards who has no idea how to run an offense. They won't score any points with him at the helm.

Giants- Best weapon on the team is going to retire. Not sure what to make of Manning. This much is easy to say: Did not live up to "hype". NOT WORTH WHAT THEY GAVE UP!
WR's are awful. Burress is a pain in the ass who takes plays off, but when he's "involved" he is superior. Amani Toomer, who is hurt, is quite good.
DL is suspect without Strahan. LB's and DB's are suspect.
TE can't catch unless he's covered by Roy Williams. He can't catch and he is an complete asshole.
Falcons- QB is awful and can't play in any NFL system. Or so it seems. WR's can't catch for shit. DE is very overrated. No team speed at LB or FS and this is why they give up so many big plays. BEst DE can't stay out of the trainers office. Which is why the Jets didn't even TRY to keep him - he NEVER played a full season. Remember: He sat out TWO playoff games because he had a chance to be a free agent [the Jets franchised him later] and it would hurt his value if he got hurt.

Brett is the "girl with the curl". When he's good, he is GREAT, when he is bad he is AWFUL. I cannot see him being consistent enough to win. Sorry.

Saints- The Offense will just get better. God, watch out for Reggie Bush. Especially if you're a Houston fan!! What a BLUNDER.

Some one will. With Owens likely to be out in Dallas, maybe Mr. Jones is thinking ........

"With the first pick in the 2007 NFL draft the Detroit Lions select Brady Quinn" Last year wasn't it suppose to be "... Reggie Bush ..." You think it's not possible for an incompetant like Millen to BLOW IT?!?

Glad to see the Cardinals get their 3-4 "wait until next year we're going to be better wins" under their belt. They do the same shit every year.

Bye bye Mora, Shell (maybe), Coughlin and Green. Of these Shell is THE most likely.

Why is Matt Millen still employed...Anybody? Obviously, every year the Ford family bets the UNDER on total wins.

Vince Young for Rookie of the year

I think the Giants will talk to Weiss about their head coaching job..and he'll leave ND with the quickness. IF they get rid of Coughlin. If they ACTUALLY make they playoffs by beating the equally bad Redskins, HE WILL BE BACK. If the Giants die in Washington, he's still got a fair chance to return since he was Wellington Mara's last move and that means alot to the Mara and Tisch families.

Cowboys draft/free agent needs in 07
QB-back up-FA
OL-FA
WR-draft
OLB-draft
FS -draft
KR-FA
DE-FA
And, who will be coaching team? Now that Sean Payton's QB "project" is showing such promise you think it's enough to entice the Tuna to return for another year? And, when are they going to move Roy Williams to CB. We hits hard, but watch him on the long balls ... AWFUL!

Thanks Fatman, very nice.

I think Bill will be back. TO is gone. Roy is what he is. He's an in the box safety. Dallas needs a ball hawking FS to let Roy play near the line. Maybe they take Landry (LSU) with their 1st rd pick. I would also love to get my boy Tedd Ginn from OSU but I don't think he'll be there by the time the Cowboys pick. I've move up to get that dude..He's the stuff!

Still think the Giants fire TC. He's lost the team. Even if they make the playoff they're one and done.

And man I can't see Mora coming back to the Falcons.

I also should say that it looks like the 49ers arrow is pointing up. They need to cut Bryant. That guy gave Dallas tired head for 3 years. He's a punk that drops way to many balls.

Agreed with 3/4 of it, the Chargers are the hottest right now, not the Titans. San Diego & L.T. are stomping holes right now, and have been since mid season. Since they have the bye locked up(and home field?), they may phone in their performance for the final game.

The Jets get their wild card spot when they narrowly edge out Oakland. They lose to whoever they play afterwards and their season is done.

Still quite a season for a team with a weak-armed quarterback returning from a second shoulder surgery, two rookie offensive lineman, w/o their running back, under a new coach & staff who changed to the 3-4, and whose over/under was 5 1/2 wins.

For sure. I normally don't watch sports, but my Jets fan buddy brought me to all the parties. I'd like them to go all the way, just to keep the beer flowing.

If those dick head announcers on Monday night football described Chad P as a "weak-armed quarterback" one more time I was going to throw my TV out the fucking window. I'm not disagreeing with the fact he is weak armed but I don't need to hear about it all fucking night. Talk about something else Kornheiser you assface.

What an asshole! Mention the fact that the guy wins! Remind us how he CAME BACK into the Jacksonville game last year AFTER his injury and had a possible winning TD overturned since Chrebet just missed getting his feet in. Chad is one gritty, tough fucker!

How many QBs have better arms than Jeff George? How did his career go?

That was funny.

Props to the Jets though, they've easily exceeded expectations. I think Big Calm's got his facts down pat, the Saints in particular look to have great long term prospects for success (whatever that is in the NFL these days, 3 years?).

i've got a soft-spot for anyone with rotator-cuff stuff although my gut says pennington probably reached his nfl-apogee in 02.

still, the jets beat us and the scary part is bill b's as scared as he is disgusted about losing mangini. the jets and the broncos are the two teams i really don't want to see the pats play early in the playoffs, they've got a better chance against sd or baltimore and nobody from the nfc can beat them.

No doubt. Right on the money. Albeit, sadly ...

On Bill B, you observations are again pinpoint.

Add to the Mangini factor the fact he just can't live with himself if he lost to Jets since he resigned as the "HC of the NYJ".

this is clearly not the year the j-e-t-s win much, but they'll be good. i've seen bill lose crenell and charlie weiss and be totally-unfazed. the guy lost mangini and he's a little spooked.

that means mangini can coach.

C62 your right about the Chargers. But I bet the stat line for one of their playoff games will look like this

Rivers 5-12 109 yrds 1INT
Tomlison 35-172yrds 4TD's
Marty Ball

Looks like the Cowboys are going on the road to play the Seahawks. That game is going to be awful. Both teams are playing like shit.

Cowboys haven't had a solid game since Indi. Seahawks still have a SuperBowl hangover. It's a toss up though I'm sure the home team will be favored. I'd rather face the Seahawks in the 1st round. I think the Giants would take the Cowboys if that were the matchup.

I tend to agree. I think the Jets don't make it this year (and by some odd chance if they have to play the Pats in the playoffs, I think they'll be chopped liver), but Mangina looks formidable as a developing head coach. Pretty impressive for being the youngest coach in the league, too.

Speaking of the first draft pick. Raiders go with Adrian Peterson, trade dead weight moss and porter for o-line help. With a defense that was ranked third in the NFL even though they were on the field all day long and had teams starting on their 40 or better every time they will be a monster to deal with if they make those improvements. Oh yeah, they need to get a decent O coordinator too. haha.

Fuck the Jets.

I despise the Pats, almost as much as I despise the Ravens. Since my Steelers are out of it, i'd love to see the Jets somehow manage to kick the Pats outta the playoffs... I wouldn't put money on it though.

Peyton needs to get his shit together so the Colts can FINALLY win the big one (or at the very least, GET to the big one).

Football has been awful the last few years. Parity has come to mean universally mediocre play. There are no teams that i would say are locks to make it into the superbowl. It makes for some close games and up and down performances but is not good for hardcore fans or bettors at all. Lets just say that the playoffs should be interesting

The story did say that Jones wants TO, not Parcells.

I don't know why anyone wants him anymore. At least with the Eagles he was still a good receiver, though one who dropped a lot of balls. With the Cowboys his off-field distractions aren't even compensated by good play. 2 catches in the playoff game, 2 catches playing for the division title at home against Philly. He dropped more than 2 passes in each of those games. Ship him off to the Redskins - they are dumb enough to pay him, and he can help keep another NFC East team down.

Jones did an interview this morning on 1310 the ticket. The host ask him if he wanted Parcells back and Jones said "yes".

Then he asked if he wants TO back and Jones said "Yes". Very short and right to the point "Yes" The host went on to say I agree with that Jones..

Jones then said "I don't need you to agree with my decesion. I want TO back and I'm willing to pay the roster bonus for TO and Glenn"

Jones also said that Roy Williams needs to be playing closer to the DLine next year. Jones sounded VERY stabby today...he was not in a good mood.

Jones needs to coach the team and save himself Parcells salary, then. If he doesn't shut up about stuff like that Parcells will tell him to shove it.

I'm a Parcells fan, not a Dallas fan. Go Giants, Parcells, Phil Simms and LT! That was an awesome team.

A SHOCKER!!! A Cowboy fan who hates the Giants!

The Giants are my "second" team. Though some root for one and hate the other, many here root for both NY team. The rarely play each - and then you choose who needs it more. I come from a time they were in different leagues. The Giants had 1 winning season in the '70s - the Jets NONE - so you just hungered for a win.

They can be, I was ok myself, but I am 6'3 and probably not the guy to attack, but I saw a bunch of other jets fans getting crap. I rolled out there at 4am, got into the stadium lot at 9am, pulling up in a yellow H1 hummer, so yeah, we didn't blend so well. We put out the full tailgate spread which included the jets beer pongtable and kegerator, and hoisted a jets flag up on a 20 ft high flagpole. This brought over a lot of jets fans, but also a bunch of asshole pats fans. We walked into the stadium, right past the gates at the main entrance I led a jets chant with about 25 jets fans, and then went off to my seats. Again, while at the seats I didn't catch much crap, but I saw a lot of other jets fans getting stuff thrown at them. At halftime I went into a section that was pretty much 100% jets fans and sat there. After the game it was BRUTAL!! It was like running the gauntlet for anyone wearing green. When we got back to the truck I found some stupid bitch writing all over it in lipstick. We made her clean it while we shot out comments to her and her fag boyfriend, fag just stood there washing my car and took it. While we drove out I cought a ton of shit, everyone remembered us with the flagpole, and I just got swarmed and had to idle my way out.

I have been to a few away games, and obviously I see plenty of visiting fans at the meadowlands, and never have I witnessed this before, they were the rudest fuckers in the world. I can not wait to exact my revenge on them next year when they come to town, cocksuckers.

That's the kind of stuff I heard.

The only fans that I KNOW are worse are the Eagle fans, though they are better now than in the past. I haven't been to the new stadium but at the Vet they actually had a police station IN THE STADIUM. That's how many problems there were at a game!

Remember when a Philly fan basically knocked out Santa coming off the field with a solid "iceball"? When they asked the guy why he said that Santa was wearing red and not green!

When I was in college in PA in 1980 I went to a game at the Vet. At that time the Eagles were good and the Giants were struggling. The Giants were getting killed. Then there was a great catch by a Giant receiver and I was a little loud with my applause.

I felt something odd. And I see my friend staring at my lap with horror. Someone threw a two-pronged barbeque fork and it stuck in my right leg (which was numbed from the cold)!!!

The neighboring fans roared with approval!!

Not always. I have no good "sex" stories, "party" stories, "drug" stories, "concert" stories, no "this person died of AIDS" stories and no "I met this whore" stories.

I didn't have the kind of college social life of James or Da Burg, so I have not responded at all to their postings.

I believe I'm older than most of the people here and I've had an active life. I've gone to alot of sporting events - often been a season ticket holder. Been in many stadiums, many now gone and very few of the new ones.

When I came out of college into a recession, I sold women's shoes - lost of stories there. Then moved to TN in Jan 85 and sold computers.

Then I moved to upstate NY and worked for the state. I was very politically active when I worked for the govt, so I met alot of people there. In 1988 I became the lead tech employee for a law enforcement department in NYC when PCs were relatively new, and older cops didn't want to learn about them. So I got to go on many search warrants and got several commendations.

I then consulted for small internet companies during "the boom". Joined one which ended up going down to the point that I was the CFO - with little qualifications to be such. My name is easily found with google on FuckedCompany.

I then returned to consulting, but wasn't very sucessful this time around due to my illness. In June 2004 I disappeared from sight and fucked all of my clients - so I won't be going back to that kind of work again.

Everywhere I go I get noticed. I've got a big mouth know-it-all and get credit for both the good and the bad of that behavior. So, I'm a bit of a magnet for activity.

I "collect" interesting people. Many of these know other interesting people. And, through them I have met - or have been exposed to - some famous people. But, I know no one who is famous. And, certainly they do not no me. The only 2 people of note that new me directly were Jack Ryan now 2nd in command in the Queens DA office [for whom I did the warrants] and possibly Gov Pataki since I was one of the group who convinced my union not to endorse Cuomo in 1994 - which was valuable to him. He would have known my name in 1994. I doubt he would recognize it now.

My sister is renound expert in "Fixed Income" products such as mortgage-backed securities, derivatives, and structured products. She worked for the mayor at his company. My dad worked with him at Salomon Brothers. She knew a good number of people who died on 9/11 - about 20 had been to her wedding. I directly knew no one.

If you don't care to believe my "stories", it's fine with me. But, I'm not inventing them.

And now matter what you believe, I will continue to love your avatar!

NFL Network played some of the 1310 AM interview tonight. Wow, Jones sounded way pissed. I'm not sure what direction this team is going.

I hope our new DC has some knowledge of the 3-4. I would love to get either one of the Ryan kids or even Dom Capers. Mabye Dick Lebeau.

sorry Chico

Any hint if Jones is going to extend Parcells a year - or is his going to leave him out there in "lame duck" status?

With R William moving to LB, as Jones hinted at, your definitely going to be 3-4. If Romeo gets fired from the Browns, you may have a chance at DC that not only knows the 3-4 but has been involved in the Bill&Bill connection for quite some time - that could mean alot of innovative variations on the 3-4. Parcells works best with "his guys".

Well, hands off Rob Ryan. He has been the only positive in a dismal season. A lot of fans would like to see him get the HC spot but with Al's love affair with offense minded head coaches, we're not holding our breath.

Hey Big Calm!

Who do you see replacing Parcells?

There was a Dallas reporter on WFAN in NY who said it is likely Norv Turner, an Aikman buddy. Also Stoops from U of OK was mentioned (the OU site is already denying his interest, which is to be expected).

Jones thought that he could keep them both in the house, but the Tuna has gotten tired of the one bedroom apartment outside of the "ranch" and putting up with the TO bullshit. I'll bet the Tuna didn't let on at all he was bailing out until when he announced or right before. That's why Jones was pissed. Classic Tuna. Alot of the prime "coaching talent" has already been spoken for. Jerry is way behind the power curve. These guys usually take two days off after the season is over before starting to whiteboard the draft and only work 14 hours a day.

It's Bill's MO. He waited until Belichick was with the Browns to retire on the Giants leaving them with Hanley. He left Tampa holding the bag a number of times as he flirted with that job. During Super Bowl week with the Pats, he spent his time negotiating for the Jets job, which hurt his team's chances. He had lots of time to figure out his position with the Jets but only decided to step down into an unclear management role once NE was interested in Belichick.

There's no blaming Bill on this.
Just like there's no blaming TO for his antics.
Jones knew EXACTLY what he was getting from both.

I'd take Ron Rivera or Wade Phillips. We need a Defensive coach and get a good QB coach for Romo. Not sure if Jerry really wants to stick with the 3-4 if so look for Wade. Ron Rivera likes to pressure the QB. But he runs a 4-3 plus you would have to wait another two weeks for an interview with him. We'll see.

No Stoops though..stop with the College coachs..please

After one USC assistant turns him down, Davis settles for another. That franchise is in Lions territory at this point. They need young blood, not as a coach, but at the owner level.

Romo may be permanently Bucknered. If the missed hold had happened during the regular season (see: Philly versus Dallas in '97 - botched snap on chip-shot game-winner, identical final score 21-20), then Romo could come back next week and try to put it behind him. But he has a whole off-season to stew in it. He may be shot out by the time next year comes around. And Norv Turner? Isn't Dennis Green available, or another failed Pro coach? Hell, Mora is coaching DBs out in the Northwest, you could probably get him on the cheap.

The Raiders aren't in Lions territory. Who they supposed to go with a fucking retread like Green or Fassell. Fuck Sark. He was the QB coach. We got the OC instead. Yeah, it's a gamble but people talked shit about Gruden. That worked out fine. As far as lion's terriotry goes, I don't remember them playing in AFC championship games and one superbowl this decade. Fuck the haters and the media. I gaurantee with the draft and FA the Raiders will improve by at least 5 games next year which for a first year coach and an offense like that will be great. If you actually look at the team if they had even a mediocre offense they would have won seven games this year. Dude has the pedigree, he'll be fine.

I don't know if the Raiders will be as good as you hope. That division is STACKED. Lots of losses - Chiefs, Chargers, Broncos - that could be 1-5 or 0-6 just to start! Sure they play four 4th place teams and two 3rd place teams, but ... tough sledding.

But, the Raiders have a history of very young offensive coaches being special.

Gruden, as you mentioned, and who they should have kept.
Shanahan, whom they got rid of way too soon.
Madden, likely the best of the bunch.

This "kid" has been around football his whole life. His dad was the architect of the Tampa Bay D. If that team had any offence, they would have had more than 1 championship.

My best buddy shares the same optimism for Oakland and their new coach, but then again he has a shrine to Howie Long in his living room, personally I don't think the prognosis is that good. They've been awful recently and it's gonna take a lot to turn them around. But like Willie said, parity is a bitch, they might be able to make a quick fix and be in contention.

This is a serious point. It is entirely likely that Al has some damage of this sort. How the hell will anyone wrest control away from a guy revered as a maverick and visionary of the proto NFL? Any chance we could get Al and Bill Bidwell onto the same plane and fly it over Cuba?

That was my - obviously rather obscure - point. He still thinks this is the AFL and he's the young rebel innovator that can buck all the trends and pioneer the new path.

Still the Raiders have three rings. That's more rings than the Cardinals have postseason victories.

LMFAO - Yes, the Cuban trip would be great if it could be arranged. Nose dive and augar in and take out Fidel at the same time. The Bidwell's life insurance would also take care of any outstanding liens on the new stadium, a plus for the valley of the sun.

Ok, the reson I'm optimistic is this. The raiders defense was third in the NFL even though they were on the field the entire game and the opponent usually started on the 40. The raiders lost to a few teams by very slim margins.

Cleveland 24 Raiders 21
Denver 13 Raiders 3
Seattle 16 Raiders 0 not that slim but defense only gave up 16.
Denver 17 Raiders 13
KC 17 Raiders 13
San Diego the second time around 21 Raiders 14

Those loses wern't exactly blowouts. All I'm saying is that if they use the draft wisely and this young coach is as good as more than a few smart football people say they will be much improved. That defense is sick. They have two of the best corners in football and one of the best ends. The only thing they need to improve on is DT. As far as the offense, yes they have a long way to go but a good oc with a decent scheme and some new blood will improve this team a bunch. If they get AP, Quinn or Russell in the draft that will be a start. I will agree that there have been serious personnel mistakes though. Gruden leaving, signing moss etc. But there were some things that wern't forseen. Gannon getting hurt a few years back, Gallery being a bust or near bust. A lot of know nothing media people are slagging the pick but a lot of knowledegable football people are behind Lane.

And yes, I'm a Kool aid drinker

Ah yes, I love it when you have a clean slate in front of you before the draft and everyone is 0/0 for next season. If you go back on the draft boards and look at the results from the draft gurus over the last 5 years, wonder what average letter grade our Silver and Black boys would have received. I'll bet somewhere around "C". Until the "leisure suit one" can no longer over ride the coach on draft day, your FUCKED....

Ah, yeah some of the draft picks have been dismal. I gave you that with Gallery. But some have worked out pretty well. Michael Huff is a perfect example of that.

Davis has done a lot for Pro Football in general and the Raiders specifically, but he is long in the tooth and should pass the torch. I wish them well as long as they are not playing the Bolts since I continue to endure a lot pain from years gone by.

Greene lost out to Parcells years ago. Jerry wont interview him again. It's looking like Wade Phillips (HC) and Garrett as OC. Then Wade could bring over a DL or LB coach and bump them up to DC. I think Turner is an offensive guru and if Jerry wants to hand the team over to Romo then he'll get Turner to groom him. Ala Aikman...but I think the D needs major help. Our Offense ranked in the top 5 for yards and PPG. Whatever they do I'll still be there

Norv Turner as a coordinator is often labeled "genius" by a lot of the pundits. I watched him when he was with the Bolts and was impressed. Romo will be loving life if Jerry is able to capture him. His tenure as a Head Coach is not as spectacular but not everyone is cut out to be the "Tip of the Spear" and lightning rod as the head man.

You ARE doomed. The AFC West is going to be brutal for the Raiders. As long as Marty Schottenheimer* is with San Diego, Mike Shanahan in Denver, and Herm Edwards in KC the Raiders will be able to sweep into last place without much effort on their part.

* Dude may not win the big games, but he pwns Oakland big time. 26-7 career vs. Oakland.

I've not been able to be objective about the Rahdahs since the Sea of Hands.

Even still, they have a long way to go. Who will be the QB? To improve 4+ games from last year, a team needs to find an answer at that position.

Norv Turner was The Man for the Phins at OC a few years back, and it didn't work out. Like any corporate culture, retreads are going to get their chances in the NFL, but I don't see it happening.

Dallas looks as if they will pick up Jason Garrett at OC from the Phins, which might give Tony Oh-No! a chance to recover his mojo at QB. He had better hope he earns a SB ring in his lifetime, or he will go down in history next to Garo Yepremian (who has two rings). Forgetting (as if) the bobbled snap, he met the same fate as many flash-in-the-pan starters after their first few games: people figured out his tendencies and were able to make him look like a rookie.

Yeah, shittenheimer brings it when his teams play the Raiders but without LT the motherfucker doesn't do shit. Shannahan is a very good coach who does well with any team he's given, but let's see if his qb savior is the answer. Jury is still out on that. As far as Herm Edwards goes, he was the Raiders bitch a few years back when they were making their playoff runs. Like I said earlier. The Raiders have the best Defense in the AFC west and will probably have the best defense next year too. All they need is a moderately good O and things will be fine.

My question, Mr. Raider, is how are they going to fill all of the holes they have. QB, line, etc. That's a 3 year process with a very strict plan with an incredible coach and an owner without Dementia.

Schott beat them OFTEN with KC & with Cleveland, too. Though he needs to prove it, I wouldn't bet against Cutler - but there will be a learning curve.

Herm did beat the Raiders in a big game to make the playoffs. The Raiders' tight man-to-man completely negates Pennington. The guy's got Larry Johnson now. He bettered 150 & 130 yards in those games and your D was pretty good.

The one thing you've got is the Mangini factor: As devout a Jet fan as I am I would NEVER have believed that the Jets would have made the playoffs this year. So, any team can turn it around but quick.

NFL season really never ends. Coming up with the NFL Network was a stroke of genius, and they will whip the local cable monopolies into line with live games and "instant" replays. There is still one game left to play, but Senior Bowl Practice is there for those junkies who root for one of the 30 teams whose season is over already.

The Colts-Pats game out-Neilsoned even that American Idol crap, proving that 13-year-old girls don't yet have an absolute veto on American pop culture. NFL has pushed past MLB and has outlasted a once-strong move by the NBA to become America's game.

Actually there was almost no pressure on the cable companies in NY to get NFL network. The subscribers agree with the companies that we want the Season Ticket. Most of us can't have satellite because of the apartment issues.

The cable companies want it to be part of a higher tier package only. NFL wants all subscribers. We want Season Ticket and aren't going to fight for just this channel.

The only issue that came up was that Rutgers' bowl game was on the network exclusively. When the NFL network would not sell it locally, they became the villains, and NJ's Senators threatened to look into the matter and perhaps interfere with the public monies re the stadium deal with the Giants & Jets.

We got the week with the Rutgers game for free.

Sorry, Mssss Raider. Getting better means drafting good players and that is something that has been missing in the Silver and Black for the past few years. Getting better quickly is opening up the wallet and going after the best in the free agent market. Mr. Leisure Suit has been willing to do so but some have questioned his selections which returns us to his relinquishing the reins of the organization and riding off into the sunset for the good of the organization. Bottomline, it's still a mess and will be for the foreseeable future.

Sweety, as long as the Godfather is running the show in Oak-town, the Raiders won't be going anywhere, Jerry Jones will soon join him in the super-control-freak group with Dan Snyder of Washington.

Al is picking up a young gun like he did with Gruden and Madden. But like I said before, unless he lets the coaching staff make the draft and free agent decisions, you're in for another long ride. Al is past his prime, the magic is gone.

Sorry, both you two... but... Al couldn't hire a person with head coaching experience in either the NFL OR the NCAA. Not good, not good at all to be getting an assistant with no head coaching experience. The only thing that will eclipse this will be in Dallas. It's going to awesome to see who Jerry Jones hires to work for TWO.

I'll take my chances with Kiffin before I went with Norv Turner. He's proven that he can't be a HC. Good OC but bad HC. Every coach that has been involved with Kiffin is saying he's the real deal as far as offense goes. We'll see if he can handle Oakland. He only has to worry about the offense. Defense is taken care of.

C'mon. He fucked up his name once. hahaha. If you actually look at some of the draft picks in the last few drafts the Raiders have done pretty well. I do question some of the free agent pickup though(Brooks, Moss). This team is going to do very well in the draft this year.

Ok, Jamie, we'll wait for the draft for your beloved "Raaaiiiders". I bet you lunch they will end up with a C or worse based upon ESPN's post mortem of the event........

I can think of at least 4 teams that would give Al a 3rd or 4th round pick for Moss. But I'm sure his contract would be a factor. Dude wants out. I think that's why he dissed the coach. He's gone.

The problem with the trade is this. Moss had probably his least effective year last year; numbers were terrible. Who is going to write a check for 10 mil for a guy who just ran routes and didn't make many catches and who is now a distraction in the locker room???? At least TO was productive before he took off out of Philly.......

here's the nutty shit about TO. He lead the NFL in TD receptions with 13. He lead the NFL with 19-20 drops. But 3-4 of those drops were TD's. For true. I mean he was in the endzone and dropped the ball. Here's my count

1) first home game vs the Redskins. dropped ball on a post pattern. Then came out the game

2) lost ball in the sun vs the Titans on another inside post play.

3) caught two TD's vs Houston BUT also dropped a fade in the back of the endzone

4) if you count the wide open fly route vs the Redskins. He wasn't in the endzone but had at least 6 steps on the DB.

Still it didn't matter. Half the TD's he caught were not game changing TD's. Maybe is dude would've held on to the Bomb against the Redskins the Cowboys may have pulled out the W. Jones still wants him back next year. I hope we draft some damn WR's this year. That position is deep this year.

No MAYBE. They would've won! Many of his other drops were 3rd down conversion wreckers. As a fan of the NY Football Giants, I hope TO stays!!

On Moss, there are no trade possibilities with his contract as I understand it, but it's not guaranteed either. I don't see him renegotiating since he'd likely rather be a free agent than help out the Raiders.

If it were me, I'd just cut the SOB and let another team sign up this piece of clubhouse poison.

ALAMEDA, Calif. -- "Hall of Famer Fred Biletnikoff retired Wednesday as the Oakland Raiders' wide receivers coach after spending more than three decades as a player and coach for the franchise. Biletnikoff had a trying season in 2006 as the Raiders finished an NFL-worst 2-14. The coaching staff clashed with receivers Jerry Porter and Randy Moss, with Porter being suspended for two games for insubordination and Moss suggesting he would be better off on another team."

Freddie has been one of the "inner circle" for years. Believe this shows just how much of a mess the Raaaiiiiders are right now. Sorry Jamie

I was agreeing with you. Like Al and his sycophants, Fred's a dinosaur. Who besides the Raiders had coaches in 2006 who played in the fucking AFL?!? The man caught passes in SUPER BOWL II!!!! The fucking thing wasn't even really called the Super Bowl yet!!

I don't think it signals trouble. I think it signals that there has to be a change. They are bringing young guys in to get some new blood. They are about to hire the line coach from Atlanta. Fred B was awesome but when you have one of the worst offenses in the history of football, everyone involved has to go. As far as Randy goes, I completely agree that it will be pretty damn hard to get rid of him.

You never know about a superbowl. I hope it will be a great contest. Great offense vs Great defense......I'm going with the Colts, but again, you never know.

Reminds me quite a bit of Buffalo vs. Giants. We'll see if Rivera can pull a 'Belichick' and confuse Manning with something new. If the weather is good and they can't get to Manning QUICKLY rushing 5, the Colts are liable to run away with it. If not, the Bears runnning game and a lucky strike or two by Gen's favorite Gator Grossman should prove the difference.

I'm rooting for Manning to get his ring.

The weather ought to be great indoors...

Slightly off-topic: I noticed something amazing in Bruce Matthews' HOF candidacy: in his career he made 99 starts as a left guard, 67 at right guard, 87 at center, 22 at right tackle and 17 at left tackle. Yes they're similar positions, but how many other guys got stats like that?

Such an occurrence has occurred in 4 Super Bowls before, with the better defense always winning.

Thus, Chicago will win 20-10.

Hopefully the wind and rain will come to disrupt Indy's passing game. Manning is quite familiar with the Cover 2 and destroyed Tampa's defense a few seasons back which essentially lead to the Buc's demise as a power in the NFC. Keyshawn was deactivated, Sapp and Lynch got whacked, etc.

Bad weather, opening kick-off return against, missed extra point, Venateri misses a FG at halftime ...

... and it's the Colts who win with a strong running game and passes in the flat!

Very surprising.

Gen Padova's heartthrob Grossman did very poorly ...

Not surprisingly, the Bears had a conservative game plan to try and protect Grossman but there is only so much you can do. I wouldn't be surprised if he is out of the NFL in 2-3 seasons. His mechanics are flawed, he is not a fundamentally sound passer and Chicago does not have much of a history of grooming quarterbacks. Also, given the expected upheavel of the staff and roster, this team may look considerably different next year. Fortunately, Millen is still employed in Detroit, Childress as well in Minnesota, and Green Bay is playing the Brett Farve shuffle once again.

I agree, he's a backup at best. The Bears should have done everything in their power to grab Drew Brees when San Diego let him go.

No one decent is available this offseason, just retreads. I'm sure Miami wouldn't mind pawning off Culpepper, K.C. the same with Trent Green, Raiders with Brooks, Cowboys with Bledsoe, Brunell,Plummer. Of course, there are always the glorified back-ups like Matt Schaub, A.J. Feely, and Billy Volek who, like a one-night stand, look much better at night with beer goggles than the morning after. They won't draft high enough to get a top prospect but Brady, Bulger, Romo and others (vs. Couch, Carr, Leaf) show that draft status is not a guarantee of success. I can see Baltimore going back to Boller instead of McNair but if not, still keep him around for the future. If the Bears do draft a QB for the future, then Garcia for one and only one season (though he would demand a longer contract).

Garcia was the name on the airwaves today. I cannot see them doing it thru the draft if they're looking to get back in the short term.

Wrong my brother. Wade like to pressure the QB. I can see those Eli back foot INT's racking up for Dallas

D.Ware 17+ sacks next year and he will finish top 5 in the voting for NFL Defesive MVP.

bump this joint in 08 if I'm wrong.

Dude had a winning record when he was there. Not sure if they've been to the playoffs since. Team went to shit after they let him go. Greg Williams set them back 10 years. If he is the Dallas HC I have no problem with that hire.

Have you been watching all the Preseason games on NFL Network?

-It looks like Pitts Offense will be a lot more open this year.

-Browns still look awful

-Cincy looks to be a midseason form

-Trent Green hasn't looked right since last year

-T Jones (Jets) is hurt....AGAIN

Who gives a shit about pre-season games? You can't tell squat from them. You have no idea how much effort the starters are putting out and how much they are just trying to avoid injury in a meaningless scam of a game whose only reason for existence is to pad the owner's profit statements. Just one example, does anyone really think when the actual season starts and the Chiefs get the ball with under 5:00 left in the game and behind by one score that Casey Printers will be taking the snaps for them and Dee Brown will be their feature back? The only thing pre-season games are good for is getting your key players knocked out for the season with some kind of knee or achilles injury.

Pre season games do suck ass. The good thing is that you can kind of see which new guys are going to make the cut. As far as judging what a team is going to do in the regular season the pre season is worthless. The Raiders were 4 - 1 in pre season last year and won 2 games all year.

Yeah, you better hope your Chargers win this year because Norv Turner sucks balls as a head coach. That team will be destroyed in another season.

I don't like the Chargers, never have, never will. I was a Raiders fan, but the whole Marcus Allen scenario was too much for me. You should've joined our FF League. It would be nice to have a woman in the league. Anyway, the Steelers are my team.

I can't speak for your team but the Cowboys got some shit to hash out in the preseason. Here's what I'm looking for.

1) Can L. Davis play Guard. So far so good?

2)Is I. Stanbach worth a 4th rd pick and can he play WR

3) Can the two Rookie OL's get some reps.

4) How different is Wades 3-4 vs the New Jersey Con mans 3-4

5) Is Spencer making the transition from DE to OLB.

I haven't gone to a preseason game since 02 but I still get charged for them. I always watch preseason ball.

As fas as Marcus Allen goes Al Davis didn't like him fucking around with Emma Sams so he shipped him out to KC. Done and done.

The Cowboys play the AFC east this year. NE is a home game. Never seen the Pats live so I'm pretty amped about that. I think the Cowboys will go 3-1 against the AFC East. NE will be their only lost. That should be the Phins, Bills and Jets though.

The Giants picked up two big free-agent tackles — Tui Alailefaleula, who is 6 feet 4 inches, and Manuel Wright, who is 6-5- ripped through the defensive line last week, going against the operating theory that tackles should be quicker and smaller. Lets see if it works.

New England Patriots safety Rodney Harrison said last night that he had been suspended for four games by the National Football League for violating the league’s ban on performance-enhancing drugs.

Harrison said he used a prohibited substance, which is believed to be human growth hormone, but insisted he had never taken steroids. He said he admitted his use to Commissioner Roger Goodell.

“I want to make it clear that not once did I ever use steroids,” Harrison said. “My purpose was never to gain a competitive edge. Rather, my use was solely for the purpose of accelerating the healing process of injuries I sustained while playing football.” FULL STORY

Charlie Frye starts at QB for Cleveland in their opener Sunday against the Pittsburgh. Coach Romeo Crennel said the position would be evaluated weekly. He didn’t say if Frye’s backup would be rookie Brady Quinn or Derek Anderson. Doesn’t matter, they’ll suck no matter what.

New England released Reche Caldwell, 28, who was its leading receiver last season with 61 receptions for 760 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Aaron Glenn signed with Jacksonville, two days after being cut by Dallas, while Simeon Rice signed with Denver.

Eli Manning may miss Sunday’s home game against the Packers with an injured shoulder, ending a 42-game streak. Article.

Meanwhile, Chad Pennington may be out (AGAIN!) vs. Baltimore with a sprained ankle. Link.

+ + +

This guy may end up with the record for most time spent on IR. (No, not that kind of IR, Tritone.)

...and Charlie Frye gets traded before game 2!! To Seattle for a draft pick. That's gotta be the first time a starting QB was let go so early...understandable though, the guy blows.
