rather an inane idea for a thread, but the sasha grey is stupid thread got me thinking.
anyway- for many 18-21 year old girls entering porn with perhaps no education or career prospects, porn certainly offers them the ability to make more money in a shorter period than they otherwise could. by treating themselves as a business and making smart decisions they could expand this potential even more. simple things like basic marketing (pr, differentiation, branding), maximising revenue and managing cashflow, and investing.
but not many do this, and i know someone will point out that if they possessed such skills they would perhaps not be in porn, so maybe this is all irrelevant, but i'd like to see it.

Actually quite a few have some great business skills. Many of my female clients run their own careers, websites and companies. I have incorporated dozens of female performers for just the tax advantages they receive. They also have accountants looking after their bank accounts and many are on their own payroll so all the necessary taxes are being paid. And I am talking about women as young as 18 doing this. i'm more interested in the marketing aspect- getting their name out there, getting noticed, getting work.

The most successful girls are the ones who make it past five years in the biz. If a girl can keep working and earn enough to pay the bills for that duration without being 'shot out', she's got smarts. You can do a quick check at the AEE to find the smart, business girls: just ask them if they have a septum. If snot is pouring out their nose like Niagra, you have your answer.

This is exactly the point I was trying to make to you in the Sasha Grey thread, Holly...if circumstances were to ever change and Aria found herself in a position where she did need to do a little more and up her levels, then she has left herself a whole lot of 'unexplored country' which she can explore and exploit...Sasha Grey doesn't have that sort of luxury because she's pretty much done it all already.
