I actually learned the concept of a ring rat from my grandmother while watching some USWA with here one time. The gave a bit of airtime to introduce a young(then), attractive woman who was the timekeeper at the Evansville shows who happened to be from my hometown. I thought that it was pretty neat that a local girl was on TV. My grandmother, who went to see the matches live, scoffed and said, "Only reason she's there is because she's a girlfriend to all the wrestlers."

Years later I seen here sitting in the crowd at a local indie show and seen Jamie Dundee walk up and give he a huge hug, so maybe there was something to what Grandma said.

Maybe Gram knew what was up, because she took a bump or 2 in her day?????

Vader would bully guys in the ring and take liberties when he could get away with it. In real life he turned into a pussy as soon as he got punched in the face. So funny you mention the ECW crowd regulars. I still have a match on VHS where Tajiri was chucking chairs at Super Crazy in this neat spot where Tajiri would throw a chair full force across a table and Super Crazy would duck at the other end. I've been watching since I've been about four. Me and the old man used to watch NWA, AWA, and World Class. We tuned into WWF only because we loved Jesse The Body's commentary and because it was so bad it was good.

That being said,it is definitely a terrible time to be a fan. WWE, to me at least, is completely unwatchable. Ever since they went PG, I tuned out. I still watch TNA weekly, but only because I'm a big fan of their lockeroom (for the most part) and it's fun seeing the stupidity of Russo and the ego's of Hogan and Bishoff book that company into oblivion. Every once in a blue moon, you'll get a good match on TNA, which is almost always an X-division match.

Plus, the camaramen PURPOSELY get the best crotch/ass/titties shots of the wrasslin' ladies.

Dick Slater was about two years, maybe three ahead of me in the same high school. His coach, my teacher. told me he was the meanest, baddest and most uncoachable kid he'd ever dealt with ever. This was early 80's NWA and Championship Wresting from Florida with Gordon Solie.

"Dirty Dick Slater" was an authentic character. I was at the Ft. Homer Hesterly Armory for the epic battles between Jos Leduc and Dusty Rhodes, when Dick Murdoch came back to town and all that old school stuff. When Murdoch called out Dusty Rhodes by his real name as "Virgil Runnels" me and my friends looked him up in the Tampa phonebook and used to call his house all the time and harass his wife or whomever answered his phone.

Wrestling is good drama.

I remember Patterson's long time SO passing, and it was talked about pretty respectfully on WWE programming. When I read somewhere that Lombardi was his rat, if you will, I was kind of shocked. I mean, Patterson had a boyfriend, after all.

Wildfire was on fire when he won the strap. Yeah, grand scheme- wise, he was no Harley Race. But he was pretty over. I hate transitional champions. I've always been a huge mark for The Belt. At a casino show, my cheap friend and I argued over which $10 Polaroid we'd get: Mick Foley or Raven. I demanded Raven because he carried the NWA belt at the time. Even tho it was from an organization that had been dead for 15 years, it was still the NWA belt. It was the wrong choice. Scotty the Body was a dick.

The heavy metal guy at the ECW Arena was called the Faith No More Guy. I always wondered what the story was with Hat Guy and Hawaiian Shirt Guy. It alwas looked to me like Hawaiian Shirt Guy had a wig and fake mustache.

Gary Hart, an Evil Genius according to Solie, called out the Plumber's Son by his real name. That was heady stuff when I was like 11. It was by God serious. Hart was pissed and Kabuki, or whoever he was managing, was gonna fuck Dusty up something fierce. Not sure when I first saw Virgil Riley Runnels was the executive producer of GCW.

Jaimee Dundee is a fucking fruitloop. Although he's not as bitter as some of them. Why is it the washed up and crazy ones insist on doing shoots shirtless. Billy Jack Haynes does the same thing.

No stuntmen, one take, shot live. And could've easily gone very wrong. King's second impact on the car, his hip hitting the top of the windshield, was not the way that was supposed to go.

So Playboy Buddy Rose had his golden bleached locks shaved by the New Zealand Sheepherders, I think. So rather than hiding his shame, he took to wearing a mask. With a bleach blonde wig sewn on. It's those little touches that make an angle.




Unlike mask gimmicks of the day, he finally got his pulled off. This was in a time when masked wrestlers may have been de- masked, but you still never saw their face. Very against the grain for that time.

When Billy Jack Haynes turned heel the Portland audience was horrified. Very realistic speech. I've always thought he was really bitter at the fans during this time because the gym he started failed horribly. Scotty the Body (aka Raven) does color commentary in this.



He was so talented and had so much potential. But at the end he was just a thug and a rat.

If you're going there, it's Virgil Riley Runnels JR, and he also had a car lot down there called "Dusty Rhodes' Dream Cars" though I have no memory of how the sign was punctuated.

"Championship Wrestling from Florida", sanctioned by the NWA and hosted by Gordon Solie was a big part of my life for about three years- it was all real to me dammit. That and Creature Feature with Dr. Paul Bearer. Each on the same level of relevance.

Playboy Gary Hart and two or three other wrestlers crashed a plane into Tampa Bay under my watchful eye trying to accomplish the equivalent of crossing the street from St. Pete to Tampa.

All that wrasslin' was done under Eddie Grahams watchful eye. The best of the best and the shit up North back then was pointless especially including the midatlantic tripe.

Ok, Mr. Florida wrasslin, what was the deal with Eddie Graham shooting himself? I think it was Billy Jack that blamed it on Dusty, killing the territory by moving on and taking all the talent with him. What say you?

Lex was a rookie, 8 months in the business, when they brought Brody in to put him over in a cage match. Luger, dumb as a rock as he is, had no clue who Brody was and treated him as enhancement talent, telling the 15 year vet how he wanted the match to go. Brody yessed him to death, then went into the cage and did what he wanted. Flexy Lexy got scared and high tailed it out of there.



Luger may have gotten further with the weakest skill set ever. He couldn't work, he couldn't talk, he had no brain for the business. He was juiced up and Sting's friend, no other redeeming qualities. If it wasn't for Paul Roma, he'd be the weakest Horseman ever.

I've never seen that. At 5:00 when Brody stops selling, Lugar's body language is priceless. He knows something's wrong, but he doesn't know exactly what. At around 7:00, the gravity of the situation is starting to become clear. So Lex bitches to the ref. Priceless. Useless juiced up douchebag. Especially funny that the crowd turned against Lugar and cheered an obviously heel Brody.

Don't no much about Eddie Graham shooting himself. I understand he was really respected in the area, donating big bucks to charities. Probably had depression and hid it well. It happens. Billy Jack blames everything on Dusty.

My opinion, Randy got no personality and he is over pushed, but he is better between the ropes than Luger.

Biggest problem w/WWE is the complete lack of personality of the guys they have. Back in the day that would be remedied by putting the guy with a manager, but they don't do that anymore. If they are doing some contraction, and merging the brands again, they should take some of the $$ they save cutting enhancement talent, and hire a couple guys to help put some of these shlubs over. They need a Bobby Heenan to rotate in monsters to try and take Cena out. Or like WCW did w/ Sullivan and Hogan. How many more years they think they are going to make it by doing Cena/HHH/Orton main events?

Problem is Steph is more of a micro manager than Vince. Shane jumped ship at the right time.

Gary Hart, Austin Idol, Buddy Colt and Bobby Shane were on the plane. Bobby Shane didn't survive. Gary Hart talks about it in one of the WWE compilations. It was obviously a very fresh scar for him.

Orton is nowhere near as useless as Lugar. I always say he sucks the charisma out of any room he walks into. But when it comes to dropping a bulldog, no one does it smoother. Beyond that, he just sucks.

Kevin, the only one left, did an interview on WWE 24/7 shortly after he sold the tape library to Vince. He is so Stockholmed that he still pines for daddy's approval and admiration. Edit: I was either there or it happened in Tampa (I was young, and don't remember specific matches I attended) when Rhodes went heel to face with Pak Song and Playboy Gary Hart. Damn, the battles with Jos and Paul Leduc were something.

I forget if it was talked about before, but the tale of Perry Saturn was a sad one. Never a main eventer, but always solid midcard guy. Some say he was the weak link when he jumped to WWE w/ Benoit, Dean and Eddie, but I say if those 3 thought he was good enough to hang with them, that is validation enough.

In April of 2004 Perry Saturn was driving his girlfriend to work when he heard what he thought was an argument next to a vehicle. When he approached the vehicle, he saw two men trying to restrain a woman as they were raping her. Without hesitation, he grabbed both men off her, and started fighting with them. As he was able to get the woman free from her attackers, he felt a burning sensation in his neck. He thought originally it was a cut stemming from a punch. However, he learned soonafter he was shot three times in the neck with a 25 caliber handgun.

Perry Saturn now has a steel plate and 3 stainless steel screws where his C-5, C-6 and C-7 vertabre in his neck were badly injured. The good news is that after a very tough and extensive amount of physical therapy and training, he is able to return to wrestling. When you think about it, it's amazing he is even alive, or even able to walk!

Unfortunately, we learned that he did not have medical insurance, and has incurred quite a bit of medical expenses. I'm sure if needed, the wrestling community will open up their arms and assist if the expenses become overwhelming.

As far as his attackers, one man was arrested for attempted murder and rape. That case is still ongoing. No word if the other individual was arrested as well."

Lusk, WY – Rufus Detwiler, former state wrestling champion, as well as an ex-professional wrestler, has died this past Monday at the age of 46.

Detwiler had been in poor health for some time, battling Hodgkin’s lymphoma since 2005.

Detwiler is perhaps best known for his portrayal of wrestler Scott Steiner from 1986 to 1998, before a shoulder injury forced him into retirement. Since then, bodybuilder Tom Franklin of Cincinnati has taken over the role.

Detwiler marveled fans around the world with his vast array of suplexes and throws, but most of all with his freakishly dazzling finishing move, the Frankensteiner.

Detwiler’s peers are devastated.

“’Rufe’ was a good man, a kind soul, and his athletic prowess inspired us all,” said Tom Zenk, who worked with Detwiler in World Championship Wrestling. “He gave it his all every single night, no matter who he was facing, and it always looked real. I know by the end he was having shoulder issues, and that shortened his career, but I’m sure he had no regrets.”

“Rufus always had a smile on his face, and a one liner to offer,” said Butch Reed, who faced Detwiler in a series of tag team matches. “The locker room was always a looser place when he was around, and it’s a sad turn of events to have lost him.”

Some have noted that Detwiler, unlike Franklin, the second Scott Steiner, seemed to play the role more seriously, and didn’t rely so much on appearance and humor to remain popular.

“I think (Tom) Franklin is a clown,” said Harley Race, a widely respected Hall of Famer, and eight time former World Champion. “Rufus was a skilled athlete that could have excelled at track, wrestling, and possibly modern mixed martial arts. Tommy, however, wouldn’t grow the black mullet, thinking it wasn’t ‘cool’ enough, so he went with the short surfer-trim look. Then he jacked his body up to disproportionate size, and that was his excuse as to why he wouldn’t do the Frankensteiner. What a (pansy). I always hated that (chicken slurper), and I wish it had been he that (sex, present tense) died.”

The question remains: why not retire the Scott Steiner persona on the heels of Detwiler’s retirement?

“I don’t why WCW did that, because it seems like it was the right thing to do,” said Kevin Sullivan, former wrestler and, at the time, lead booker. “Then I remembered I was running the place, so it’s probably my fault. I guess. Everything after 1981 is kind of a haze. Did I ever work with Beefcake? Someone swears I did.”

Detwiler left a legacy of achievement in sport that will continue to inspire, long after his recent passing.

“Somewhere, Rufus is looking down on Rick Steiner, and he’s probably let him know that the hatchet can be buried,” said Doug Hagerty, the second man to play The Ultimate Warrior, as well as the cuter Jumping Bomb Angel. “Bygones are bygones, and somewhere, one day, Rick and Rufus will beat up unassuming Japanese wrestlers again.”

Wiskowski was a very underrated hand. Working as himself, he was an OK heel. Kind of along the lines of a Frank Dusek. But get him in a character, like Col. DeBeers, he really shined. Col. DeBeers was hated the world over. Not bad for an ex- NFL guy.

What I meant was for a guy with a season or two under his belt, he had a pretty good second career. He was a great natural heel. Tell you what a good angle would be, 1 segment a week of the Undertaker keeping order in the locker room. Work it that Taker is retired from the ring, but still around to maintain order. So and So doesn't want to defend the title against whoever, Taker has to rough him up. Maybe someone takes a DQ to retain the title, Taker meets him on the ramp, fists taped, ready to mudhole the guy. Pretty much a 5 minute hardcore match in the backstage every week, leading to a Taker Wrestlemania match, after he works his way from jobbers to a main event guy, HHH or Randy.

Punk is still on the Bozo the Clown show...

I keep telling myself it'll be something cool and groundbreaking...but it won't. Unless a Kevin Nash led new nWo is groundbreaking.

Silsbee, TX - Silsbee native and pro wrestler (technically) Mark Henry hadn't seen his son since WWE backstage agents took him away shortly after his birth in early 2000, never to be seen again. Henry, 39, was dumbfounded by the agents' own confusion at his insistence that they let him cut the umbilical cord and name the child after his late father, "Dad", unaware of the scripted nature of WWE programming. Though he would be constantly ridiculed by his peers for living up to his first name, Henry insists that no one had ever told him that the birth of his son, and pro wrestling in general, was fake.

"No one ever told me," Henry told reporters, tugging on his beard in confused distraction, as if still trying to put it all together. "I remember the other Rasslers always sayin' to me what they was gonna do in the middle of our matches. I just figured they was terrible at strategy."

In the face of accusations of his relationship to the rubber hand, and his affair with the hand's mother (elderly, semi-retired woman grappler Mae Young) being a sham written for the sole purpose of entertainment, Henry was again baffled. Upon further explanation of how his entire WWE career had been predetermined and scripted -- the cameras in strange places, the intercourse with the elderly, the transvestite fellatio --, he merely scratched his head.

"Predetermined? Cameras? Storylines?" a shocked Henry again asked, before smiling as if a revelation had suddenly come over him. "So this means Owen, Bulldog, Mr. Perfect, Hawk, Crash, Eddie, Test - they still all alive?!" he then bellowed joyously.

The search for the former finally paid off a month ago, when Henry and his hand child, now 10 years old, shared a tearful reunion outside of a WWE event, where the hand was eagerly seeking John Cena's autograph whilst wearing "The Champ's" paraphernalia on each oversized finger that made up his unusual body.

"I'm not gonna lie, when I saw him, I couldn't help but feel a little uneasy," a booming Henry insisted about the child's disturbing appearance, reminiscing, searching the sweat-stained singlet he was still strangely wearing for a candy bar seemingly tucked away within an unseen crevice. The child has even already taken on many of his father's traits. Within days of their reunion, it had already instinctually bent most of the frying pan's in the kitchen and torn all the phone books in the house in two - an act of inherited strength that initially angered his usually jovial father as there was now no way to prepare/order dinner. And of course the standard 2nd and 3rd dinners. The child also broke every finger on his body and injured three neighborhood children in the process.

Despite insisting that these hiccups are just transitory and they'll eventually find their groove, like any father, Henry still worries about his son's future.

"There's not a lot of suitable hand-jobs out there," he revealed ignorantly, but innocently. "But we's not gonna accept just any hand-outs," he then continued, again naively deadpan, holding his last frying pan. Then bending it. Just because.

Luckily, the good people behind the Hamburger Helper brand have since come to the Henrys' aid regardless, offering a potential spokesperson deal to the unique child, if and when he's ready.

"I'm just glad he'll be helping people," the proud papa revealed soon after hearing the news, before being informed of what it really meant and where he could get some. "Maybe one day he can take up Rasslin, too. Without feet, he'd be a shoe-in to win the Royal Rumble. Or a glove-in."

When met with silence, Henry let out a nervous laugh. "This why we don't get to write our own promos," he then revealed with egg on his face. Literal egg; a leftover remnant from a seemingly bountiful breakfast.

"But I'm not too worried," he then continued optimistically, soon cradling the stoic human-limb that is his son in his massive arms. He threatened a CVS pharmacist, took several bottles of Oxycodone, fled to a Chilis, and holed up in the bathroom, crushing, cooking, and shooting 178 tablets in 30-40 minutes, before cops arrived. WWE is planning to launch their own cable network around the time of the 2012 Wrestlemania. One of the planned shows is going to be called "WWE House of Fame." If it was a stroke, I'll attribute it to heavy cocaine use in his 20's. That is usually the cause of early strokes. If it was a heart attack, I attribute it to being a 350 pound redneck. He never looked like he juiced. Never even really looked like he worked out in a gym, just the ring.

I'd like to think that pretty much every wrassler juiced in that time period. There's a documentary on Netflix streaming called "Card Subject To Change" which is all about wrasslin' in the indies. This one guy was breaking it down how he uses a steroid called "winstrol" that is made for cutting cycles and doesn't result in any significant bulk gain. Basically it speeds up the fat-losing, muscle defining process. Sort of a Bruce Lee steroid, I guess.

Regardless, it's a pretty cool doc if you get a chance to see it. Kevin Sullivan is profiled, and I can't fucking believe how good the guy looks compared to say, Ric Flair, or someone else that started in 71' 72'. He's in amazing shape, and doesn't even really look that old.

His first heel turn on GCW broke my heart.

You never know. My doctor told me one time if you can get from 45 to about 53 without a coronary or stroking out, you were probably good til your 70's at least. He basically said being 45 is in and of itself a risk factor. One minute you're in the sack with a hot girl, or guy, and the next, you're a lampshade.

It was after WCW made their own belt, but before they pulled out of the NWA. Barry won it from Muta, lost it to Flair, WCW pulled out a couple months later. Barry was part of the office, so he probably didn't have to blow anyone. Coulda been something as simple as Flair didn't like working with Muta, so they used Barry as a transition.

His brother Kendall is one of the all time worst.

Muta was God as far as I was concerned. I enjoyed watching Kabuki more, because he had a really odd style. Very slow, kind of disjointed pace. A little like watching the Original Sheik. But Muta was such a fantastic technician.

Kendall was terrible. He had a bad build for a "tough guy". Greg Gagne was the same way. He looked like my insurance guy. How do you take that seriously?

I'm really starting to enjoy TNA again. Taking the focus off Hogan. Putting thetrap on Storm was a real shock. I was sort of figuring he'd heel turn on Roode, and was pleasantly surprised he didn't. I can see some fun drama if the rest of Fortune gets jealous or Storm gets a big head.

The Bischoff kid is interesting. It's kind of a unique storyline. Usually the dad is the redeemed heel trying to steer the heel kid away from the mistakes the dad made. Bill Dundee/ Jaimee Dundee went that way. But having the dad remain evil, the kid being a babyface, and dad trying to force him to be evil is a nice twist. Let's try to not ruin it, shall we? Putting the kid in a program with Flair should help to bring him along nicely.

On the other hand, I don't give 2 shits about Jeff Hardy and his endless apology tour. He's not a good heel. His best role is that of a weirdo good guy.

I don't mind spoilers. Even knowing the outcome, I still enjoy watching how it plays out.

See, to me, TNA is my source for unintentional comedy gold with a good match every now and then. It's more than I can say about the E', as I gave up watching that shit around the time the PG era really started reeling it's ugly head with their goddamned guest stars and children's variety show antics.

While I do get some great lulz from TNA, I also get really, really frustrated with their schizophrenic booking and longtime refusal to push those that actually deserve a push. This Crimzon guy they're pushing looks like an inbred with a slighty burned-off hairdo, and his ring skillz are lackluster at best. The other dipshit that they're pushing to the moon (Gunner) is about as exciting as a warm bowl of oatmeal. Meanwhile, the pope, Styles, EY, etc. are stuck with go-nowhere angles, and little TV time. Let's not forget the hundreds and hundreds of angles that they built heavily or slightly that ended up going absolutely fucking nowhere.

I mean, they set up that entire Bound For Glory series to prop up Roode, then take the title away at the last second because Hogan didn't think he was ready. Now, even if it is, as Hogan would say, "a worked shoot, brother", it still seems like an unecessary way to build a Roode/Storm feud. Not to mention how that particular dick-move really proved how much they're taking their fans for granted.

TNA has all the power in the world to be THE product that WWE refuses to be, which is a fed with a lockeroom full of talent and the go-ahead to go out there and actually give it their all for the sake of a good match, but they let clueless idiots like Dixie Carter run the place and enable the russos and hogans to book it into the goddamn ground. I still watch Impact every week, but the frustrations are starting to outweigh the lulz and the occasional good match. I'll stop now.

Well, Dixie owns it, so that can't be helped. And I don't get Russo. He wrote legendary stuff in WWE. I don't know if he buys his own genius gimmick, or if he's just burned out or what? Maybe too many cooks in the kitchen. And Hogan...he's a known quantity. He's about pushing Hogan in the best of circumstances. But with his money problems, he's desperate, so that just means he's going to be even more about himself.

I really like Gunnar and Crimson. They both have a pretty good look and are not bad hands. I'd put them together as a tag team and give them a manager to talk for them. Jim Mitchell, preferably, but I'm a big Jim Mitchell mark. They just need some seasoning.

It's too bad, because Jarrett and his dad were booking geniuses in the land of long ago. They have a locker room full of talented, hungry workers. They're building a really talented X Division. And their women's division has the best girl workers in the business.

I keep watching because I keep hoping, I guess.

I don't buy Russo being so good back in the day. Everything and anything goes through Vince. Different guys might have his ear at different times, but everything is Vince's call. When Russo had all the power, WCW was shit. He just sucked the right assholes to keep getting work.

Barry is on to something with Gunner and Crimzon as a tagteam. These two definitely have potential, but their gimmick-less stints give the fans nothing to really enjoy. Seriously, these guys gimmicks are "I'm an intense dude and don't back down from NO ONE". That's it. Nothing interesting, quirky, or entertaining to talk about or appreciate. Gimmicks and good matches are what made wrestling for me growing up.

Take Jeff Jarrett for example. I absolutely hated him in the "king of the mountain" gimmick where he was basically a shit-talking heel that couldn't lose. On the other hand, when given the gimmick of a delusional heel, like MMA Jarrett, he really bought some entertainment. Remember that video where he was beating up the kids? It was one of the few times I aknowledged TNA as doing something right. MMA Jarrett was one of the few things that even the staunchest TNA hater thought was a good, funny gimmick.

It's not completely hopeless for me, yet. Look at Bully Ray. TNA did a bang-up job of actually building this guy into a believable heel. There's moments, when he's doing his thing, that I actually have to remind myself that this is Bubba Ray playing the part of an asshole. That's a pretty impressive feat when you take into account just how much of a bitter, jaded fan that I am. The guy generates genuine heat, and not what the fans collectively call "X-Pac heat" which is basically the term for when a guy gets booed not because he's a good heel, but because the fans hate him period and feel that he has absolutely no business inside a ring. I'd be surprised if he doesn't get the strap in the near future, after it goes to Roode, then Hardy. But then again, this is TNA and I can almost guarantee you they will screw up the Bully Ray character too, as they never seem to fucking know a good thing when they see it.

As for the women, Barry, if you're just comparing them to WWE, then I would have to agree with you, but if you factor in some of the indies like the all-women's fed SHIMMER, you'd find yourself second-guessing. I'm as much a fan of Velvet Sky shaking her ass and pointing to her starfish as the next one, but she is absolute shit on the mike and in the ring. If you wanna see some women really go at it, youtube Sara Del Ray, Cheerleader Melissa, MisChif, or Lufisto, and that's not even including the japanese bitches, who go at it just as hard, if not harder than the mens. Check out the vid below if you haven't already seen it. I went ahead and dug up the version with the ICP on commentary, as their wrestling commentary is second to fucking none. It's not the most well-executed women's match, but it does go a long way in establishing the benchmark for the work-rate of female wrestlers in Japan. But yeah, I'll take the knockouts over the Divas in the ring, on the mike, and on my dick, any day.

Chris Masters sent out a tweet asking followers to guess which Smackdown Diva has an "ORAL" agreement with Micheal Hayes to keep her job and push. My question is which one doesn't. Who you fuck in WWE/wrestling has always helped determine your push and job status. Or who you pimped your woman to/who she fucked behind your back. I hate the "Bully Ray" gimmick. I think the costume, mostly, followed quickly by the "Bully" part. That said, Bubba is a legit tough guy, and a heat machine when he's in the groove. And he's in the groove right now. Enough that I can easily overlook the costume.

I love delusional crazy. A good heel should believe that everything they do is justified. It's a method acting sort of thing, but it makes the gimmick believable.

Nah, if anything Page got the strap too late. His feud w/ Savage got him over like crazy. Page v NWO, pretty much by himself, was tremendous. They gave him the belt when he was coming down, to squeeze a little more out of it. They should have flipped the script, put the belt on him earlier, and have him as the scrappy underdog babyface that keeps the belt against the constant onslaught of the NWO. I wouldn't have hurt the NWO gimmick. Page actually became decent in the ring, too.

TNA was not horrible this week. No Hogan, which is always a good day. I would add Matt Morgan to the Crimson/ Gunnar faction I was talking about. The Roode/ Storm match was great, classic back and forth. They foreshadowed the Roode turn too much, focusing on the beer bottle from 2 angles was a little much. It can be excused, tho. Spitting on Storm after was a nice touch. I see the potential for not only a bloody fued but a split within the Fortune group as sides are taken.

Fortune is fucked. I just read that Syles injured his ankle at a house show in Battle Creek, and is unsure how bad it actually is. I still have to watch Impact. That's the thing with TNA. If it wasn't for the DVR, then I probably wouldn't watch wrestling at all anymore.

I read that about AJ too. Frankie K can't hold that organization together by himself. But Kerry VE worked for how long with one foot?

I watch TNA because I really want them to pull it together. And they have, several times. But it only lasts like 2 weeks, then it's back to bullshit.

Yeah, but comparing Styles to KVE is apples and oranges. I can't see styles working his style with a bum anything, yet alone an ankle.

And then again, it could all be complete and utter bullshit. That's another thing that pisses me off about TNA. Styles has been very vocal about his unhappiness with Hogan, but when you consider the constant Russo/Hogan "worked shoot" style of writing, it's impossible to know if Styles is speaking honestly, or just working the fans into believing that it's all not actually kayfabe.

I don't know if you know the backstory, Barry, but Hogan fucking buried Styles in a radio interview, and Styles fired back a few times on Twitter. TNA could be shelving him for misconduct, or like I said above, it could all be complete and utter bullshit like the whole "Roode isn't ready" thing was. I just hope he's alright. Styles is probably the best wrestler in TNA right now with Austin Aries running a close second, IMO.

I imagine AJ works hurt quite a bit. The thing about him is that he's really versatile. His high flying stuff is really good, but he's also a really believable power worker. If he can stand, he can adapt.

The hottest issue over the last 24 hours within TNA appears to be not anything scheduled for tonight's Bound for Glory PPV, but Hulk Hogan vs. AJ Styles.

It started with a taped interview Hogan gave Sirius Radio's Between the Ropes where Hogan claimed that Bobby Roode was not the next great thing in wrestling, saying that if it was up to him, it would be Jeff Hardy (who has already been WWE champion and on top for years).

Hogan also commented on AJ Styles, stating, ""It’s never too late. I mean, I just don’t know. I, when I first came in all bright-eyed and bushy-tailed a couple of years ago, I had a ton of suggestions which I was kind of pushing real hard, which I thought would take him to a crazy, crazy level, and nobody responded. So, I don’t know at this point. I have my ideas, but a lot of things that I believe in, and what I feel from the crowd, and what I know. The little I know about this business. Sometimes, it’s either taken and used, or used and it doesn’t work, or it’s not used at all. So, it’s just..it’s my opinion. I don’t know at this point."

Styles, who never takes to social media to voice complaints publicly, retweeted a few fan comments claiming Hogan used Styles' push as a scapegoat after failing to bring numbers to TNA and wrote, ""Frustration setting in when your own guys bury the company that u have worked so hard for........ Brother!"

Those comments apparently got under Hogan's skin. When a fan, Anthony Maurizio, called Hogan on Styles' comments, Hogan responded, "Just waiting for somebody to figure it out and do Today Show, Fox and Friends , Leno, radio, tv ,etc. , instead of the same 5 star matches over and over.....and main stream and world wide international media on a miss my ass basis,brother. HH"

Hogan then began retweeting a bunch of comments written by fans about how his name provides more attention to TNA and basically putting himself over. He finally wrote, "Goodnight HULKAMANIACS and jabronie marks without a life that don't know it a work when you work a work and work yourself into a shoot,marks."

Hogan then continued retweeting all sorts of compliments and comments putting him over, well into early Sunday morning, the same Sunday where he's scheduled to return to the ring against Sting.

Of course, Hogan's claims that he was working during the interview makes about as much sense as last week's episode of Raw, since he was saying Robert Roode wasn't the "next guy" and was putting over Jeff Hardy, who is currently feuding with Immortal. Not to mention that if he was "working", why would Hogan be commenting that he'd be pushing James Storm if it was up to him? Hogan's comments on Styles were anything but a storyline work. If anything, Hogan was probably a little too honest for those within the company (on an interview he was doing to promote the company he just signed a new two year deal with) and was now trying to muddy the waters.

For Hogan to refer to Styles, who has never been anything but the most exemplary talent and represenative for TNA as a "Jabroni Mark" is one of the most ridiculous statements of the year.

Throwing out his ridiculous insults, Hogan's points about others stepping up and getting media appearances would actually make sense but all the media in the world means nothing if people aren't interested in watching it. Hogan's teased retirement did a poor quarterly rating for TNA - one of the worst quarters of 2011 and far worse than anything AJ Styles drew of late.

For all the talk of what Hulk Hogan means, Micro Championship Wrestling didn't come out looking too strong in the ratings, either.

But looking at the Hogan media from the last week - Did Hogan do a lot of media for TNA in the last week? Absolutely. But so did Kurt Angle and a number of other stars. The difference there is that when those other stars do appearances in the media, they always do the one thing that Hogan almost always fails to do - talk about TNA, even when they are promoting other exploits. Hell, even Mick Foley did that during his tenure there.

The other thing that did that Hogan failed to do - is actually promote TNA as if it was something worthwhile. Hogan promoted Hogan on 99% of his media appearances and then tossed in a few comments on the side about TNA. He spent more time on ESPN talking Andre the Giant and Randy Savage than he did TNA or explaining why he was wrestling Sting. He spent more time talking about the allegations that he and Brutus Beefcake were gay lovers than he did getting over the Dixie Carter storyline on Howard Stern. I am sure Hogan will blame it on those who were interviewing him - because the guy who could control 93,000 fans at Wrestlemania couldn't sway the direction of an interviewer - but the reality is that we knew more about Sylvester Stallone hiring Hogan for Rocky III over TWENTY YEARS AGO than we did about the TNA product by the time Sportscenter finishing their Hogan rotation.

But, it all comes down to what I mentioned earlier - the media all means nothing if people don't want to see it. Hogan did almost nothing to get people to want to see TNA over the past week - but I guess that will be dismissed as well.

As for Style's ankle. It looks like he's dealing with a class 2 sprain:

You know Hogan though. It is always about Hogan, he's always working, and he cares more about charisma than ring work. Styles in the ring is real good. Styles personality... he tries, but he's only a rung or 2 above Steve Blackman.

Hogan is an empty suit. Plain and simple. When he has Vince McMahon's creative department pulling his strings, he's the Hulkster all over again. When it's Terry running the show, not so much. Look at the nWo Hogan. When the nWo was at it's height, at it's very coolest, in the middle you had Terry Bolea with a fucking painted on black beard. It was a joke and it was pathetic. Turning Hogan heel was brilliant. But this black paint beard...I mean, how fucking stupid. To me, it was slamming both feet on the brakes of a ton of momentum heat- wise. And at the time I wondered if that company was just full of yes men who couldn't just say that he looked like a fool. And reading about the last few years of WCW, I'm pretty convinced that's the what was going on.

Fast forward to the first TNA kinda run. When Jarrett bloodied him up in Japan. A fucking heat machine. And then, for reasons unknown, it died.

Fast forward to the last TNA run. The booking is a trainwreck, and no matter what potentially good storylines get started, they have to be stunk up by Hogan coming in, ad- libbing, stumbling over his stick time, speaking in these Ultimate Warrioresque ramblings. Generally stinking up the joint, but still keeping his crippled ass out in front. Over everyone else.

Sure, Hogan is the most recognizable face in the business. And I respect that. But to be let him anywhere near Creative is madness. But he has this cache' that seems to blind even the most talented of bookers. History has shown this. Even if he weren't poison to Creative, to have him as the face of your company is simply living in the past. He can't work, he can't talk, he sure as shit can't book. I can see the value of having an old timer as a "commissioner" sort of thing. But to put that guy out there as the company's face, the head character, is just a mistake. The top worker needs to be the guy who is the top worker. In this case the top character is Hogan, and the top worker is AJ. Hogan trying to be at the top, while not working, and trying to bury the guy who is really at the top, shows that Hogan is either a petulant crybaby puss. Or that for all his glorious years in the biz, he really doesn't know how it works. A little from Column A, a little from Column B.

That said, for a company with a ton of kids who have endless potential, who say they are looking to the future, having a 60+ year old, who is as good as crippled, as their public face is just bad business. I'm all for having the veterans, because they season the younger kids. The Bischoff/ Flair/ Gunnar thing has the potential to be entertaining as hell, while at the same time giving Gunnar and Garrett the schooling that they need to progress to their respective next levels.

So, TNA has a development deal with OVW and are possibly taking over (worked or shoot) AAA. Endless potential. As a fan, I want them to do something with it. As a realist, well...you know. I think too much creative energy is spent trying to "beat" the E. Which, let's face it, isn't going to happen. They have too much of a head start, they have a huge budget. They have synergy with other communication companies. And the E has the tape libraries. An unending goldmine of content that costs a pittance to disseminate, making it almost pure profit. TNA is simply not in the same world as the E. If they spent more time trying to put out the product they're capable of putting out, and less on beating Vince, they would attract the audience that just wants to see a good, entertaining and compelling wrestling show.

It ain't rocket science. It's episodic television.

A friend and I were going to do a public access show at the height of the Monday Night Wars. Tuesday Morning Booker would just be us reviewing and comparing RAW and Nitro, and throwing in some smart mark info. Totally a vanity project. The cable company charged too much. Ah, lost chances.

There used to be a sweet public access show here that was a pirate news program where this guy basically went around town just making fun of people. It ran from like 85-94 I think. Guy had a bunch of contributors that were basically an offbeat cast of characters.

One of his characters, "The Mad Russian" made the stern show when he attended a Pat Buchannon rally and started screaming aloud "you're a nazi!!!!".

Bart Scott has a career waiting for him in the WWE if he can keep cutting promos like this one, from after the Jets/Pats game in last years playoffs.

I talked to James today and he’s in good spirit. James is a true Memphis Wrestling legend and will be missed in the wrestling world. I had the opportunity to travel up and down the road with James and he’s one the nicest people in the wrestling business. I wish James a speedy recovery and we hope he feels better.

He was over as fuck, getting massive heat like only a foreigner can do. Some Arab groups had kittens over it, and they cut that guy quicker than shit.

Chickenshit on the E's part, because evil foreigners have always been heat generators. The Sheiks (Iron and Original). Any number of Samoans. Fuji, Kabuki. How many Nazis, or almost Nazis have we booed over the years?

Arquette really bummed me out. I have always been a mark for the world title of any promotion. To me, the champ is a big deal. Traditionally, the champ was chosen by committee, like the NWA, and was always a legit tough guy, for a few reasons. A local promoter pulling a swerve to get his local talent over. A worker going into business for himself. A guy in a bar wanting to prove something. The face of not only the company but the industry. Putting the strap on a skinny actor to get a movie over? Wrong as wrong can be. But WCW was a trainwreck at the time.

I agree on Terry Taylor. But long term, after his in ring days were over, he's well respected and has had all the big companies bidding on his services over the years.

Was Yeti El Gigante? If so, he was the worst worker of all time.

I really liked Eugene. It was a well crafted character that Dismore made his own. He was also a great mimic and pulled off his "hero's" finishing moves and catchphrases to perfection. A ton of really edgy storyline possibilities.

Goldberg marked for himself long before his first match. I liked the character and he was decent in the ring. Kind of like Hogan. He had three moves, but he did them well. The Gillberg thing was hilarious. Some of the most creative stuff the E and WCW did was the shitting on each other. I'd love a shoot interviewer to ask him about Gillberg.

Who was Phantasio? I don't remember him at all.

The "wrestling anythings". Plumbers, garbagemen. One of the Irwin brothers was a wrestling hockey goon. He had these weird boots that were meant to look like skates. Kinda. It was terrible.

The guy who painted up like Gene Simmons from KISS. The guy who painted his face like the Warrior. The Ultimate Warrior was pretty terrible too.

Giant Hernandez, or any of the gimmicks they had him in. He was a 7'6"+ basketball player from like Brazil that Turner Sports brought up to play for the Hawks. Tore his knee up before he could play, so they gave him to WCW.

Making King of the Ring winners royalty for a year.

Eddie Guerrero played a masked guy called Tron, I think. He was from the future and "loved the kids". Terrible.

Greg Gagne.

Anybody whose gimmick is their military record. I don't mind it being a piece of the broader character, but to make it the majority of the character never works. It's too one dimensional. Like when Jesse Neal first came on TNA. The entire character was him being in the military. He went nowhere until he went heel, and still languished in obscurity until joining up with Shannon Moore. With Gunnar, his record was used sparsely to pump up his tough guy gimmick.

Not Gigante, Ron Reis.

The KISS Demon was Dale Torborg, sone of MLB player/manager Jeff Torborg. He later went on to be the strength coach for the Blue Jays. And, yes, much like KISS, the KISS Demon sucked.

You didn't mention Glacier. Mortis and Wrath were good, but Glacier sucked.

Love the mention of Greg Gagne. Throw Mike Graham and Erik Watts in there too. Shane McMahon could actually pull off good matches. He had one against Kane at a PPV that stole the show, and the one against Angle where Angle forgot which pane of glass was gimmicked was good too.

Jay Strongbow was just terrible. As a kid, I never understood why Indians were good guys. All the ones I saw in my town were smelly and drunk.

Here Ernie Ladd sets back race relations another 100 or so years. Solie is concerned about Ladd's safety, but I was more concerned about his bad acting and overselling. This was a great feud. Ernie was fantastic on the stick. He stuck to a mostly drunken Indian slurs, but it was good stuff.

This is perhaps the most disturbing thread on XPT. Meditate on that.

The Sting mullet guy looks like Lance Storm, but I think he'd have been too young.

I love how RVD pulled the "I'm the World Champ" card with the cop. And how the cop totally blew it off. Driving high is as stupid as it gets.

The Pillman gun thing was a big deal at the time. It had never been played before. Plus the line between work and shoot was getting kind of blurred. Pillman was in the "loose cannon" character that had gone from WCW to ECE to the E, which added to the blurring. To the marks, it was a bit too "real". There's still a difference between "sports entertainment" and CSI. It's real, but it's not.

I read the same info on Hogan in a different article. From the sound of it, she got the cash and he got the house, which was over valued at the time. Also, he was trying to get a celebrity premium on the house, but no one with that kind of $$ is going to care that it was Hogan's.

Hogan was cutting the check to AmEx while she wined and dined and shopped. My problem with the E in that era was this self delusion they had that no one who watched the E watched anything else. You end up with Harley Race being royalty, Steve Keirn being an alligator hunter, DiBiase being a jillionaire, Dirty White Boy Tony Anthony being a plumber, and Dusty fucking Rhoades being whatever that abortion of a gimmick was. At this truly forgettable Tony Atlas gimmick. "Legally changed his name". Fuck you, Vince. I think it was less about overt racism than it was a lack of creativity and vision. Can you imagine what E Creative would've done with Magnum TA or Nikita Koloff? Or Sting, for that matter? A chimney sweeping Sting. That'd put asses in seats.

I was sitting in a little burger joint with the family not long ago. They had various magazines laying around, so I picked up the E's mag and paged through it. As a company, they laugh at those 80's gimmicks. The one that stands out in my mind was some really heartless shit said about the guy who was a garbageman. I can't remember his name. I was thinking it was such bullshit. You geniuses in Titan Tower cane up with this shit, told some worker to go out and do it, and he busted his ass to make it happen. And 20some years later that same brain trust mocks the guy. I think it's the culture at the E. Throw shit at the wall and see what sticks. I think it was less about Tony Atlas being Black than it was that Tony Atlas fit the costume. The costume sold the merch, and that's what it was (and is) all about.

Sure, there's entrenched racism in wrestling. Watts, Michael Hayes. Just like everywhere else. But that racism can be easily set aside for the sake of selling tshirts and big foam fingers.

Speaking of racism, Truth Killings got a 30 day stay home notice for smoking the fake reefer. And being a Black man in America telling the Truth.

Piper's commentary in the clip is gold. I'm sure he got a little talking to after the show was over.

The trash guy was Dumpster Duke Droese or something like that. My big problem with the WWE in the late 80s and early 90s was their insistence that every world champion weigh at least 280lbs.

I've always like the faster paced cruiserweight style of match. By far my favorite WWE wrestler of this time period was Ricky Steamboat. I would much rather watch matches where wrestlers are actually chaining there moves together fluidly one right after another than watch Hogan or Andre lumber around the ring, do one body slam, stomp around, pose for the crowd, then go into a boring bear hug for five minutes followed by a test of strength for another three minutes. To me it was never a good sign if Mean Gene Okerlund moved around the ring faster than your world champion could pace a match.

They give a 30 day suspension for smoking fake weed, and a $2500 dollar fine for smoking the real stuff.

But no suspension for real weed? Fuckin Vince.

Vince is a bodybuilder at heart and he always is hard for roided up freaks. And if they fit the costume, so much the better. My bigger problem was that Hulk Hogan had to be THE champion through the 80's. Hogan doing the job is bad to watch because Hogan doesn't do the job. His usual MO of getting his ass kicked until hulking up time is one thing. But for him to get cleanly pinned...well, Terry doesn't care for that much. So he makes sure he smells up the place.

But bigger guys can put on good matches. It's a matter of staying limber and knowing your limits. Brody/ Abdullah did great work. Lots of psychology, usually a bloodbath. Good stuff.

Then you have Big Show when he was ECW champion. It was shameful. He could barely move. But look at him now. Personal trainer, decent diet, he's a whole new worker. Not a cruiserweight, but he moves pretty good.

Big Show was at his best back in WCW when he was palling around w/Luger juicing and working out. Dude went from 7' 425 of big to about 450 of really fucking scary. Then I think Nash dropped him on his head and it was down hill until he went on the little retirement from WWE and was doing some boxing training.

He was a pretty young man then, too. And a total monster. He's almost as good now as then. Losing a few steps, but for his age, and the condition he has, he's doing really well. Look at Andre at that age.

Well Show had the pituitary tumor taken out sometime during his WCW run. Unless that tumor was from whatever Lex was feeding him.....

Great story. His young Tommy Rich was spot on and hilarious.

Memphis, in that era, was lightening in a bottle. The audience was ripe for good vs. evil and the storylines were just that basic. The Andy Kauffman run showed that. They loved their faces and hated their heels.

Add to that the almost bigger than life characters. Lots of local, or at least regional talent, that a lot of the fanbase knew personally, or were maybe five or six degrees removed from knowing them personally. This made any "outsider", especially from the northeast, very suspect.

The announce team were less play by play guys that mouthpieces for the fanbase. Russel and Brown did not call it down the middle in any way. Which was great for that emotional of a fanbase,

Add the drugs, marital infidelity, wife swapping, chasing of young girls going and the legitimate heat between various people and you had the perfect storm of tv wrestling.

I was always under the impression that Paul had the best mind in the business when it came to creativity and putting on a compelling card. Guy really knew how to build a feud. Dreamer/Raven is in my and most of the internet community's opinion, the best goddamn feud of all time. There became a part in that fued, where Kayfabe almost had me believing that these guys really fucking hated each other. With the right money guy around to filter him, he could drag any promotion out of the gutter.

TNA came extremely close to handing all creative over to Paul, but they decided against it and offered him a smaller role on the writing/talent side. Paul refused, because he knew he wouldn't jibe with Russo and the like, and wanted all or nothing. Paul stated flat-out that he would eliminate every one on the roster over the age of 40, except for one veteran, that he could realistically build as the exception that proves the rule of young talent putting asses in the seats. Besides the one veteran, he said he would have focused entirely on new fresh guys, get them working the mic better, and put a stronger emphasis on fast-paced X-division style matches that are more the norm in the indies.

I gotta say, however, that as jaded as I am with TNA, the last Impact was exremely entertaining. From Kid Kash and A-double's funny exchange, to the "Roode is a shitty family man" vignette, to "Gunner invades the gym", I was laughing throughout the entire fucking thing. I'd also like to add that Bully Ray and Steiner are a hell of a lot funnier as a duo then they should be allowed.

Heyman is a genius for crafting stories. Not only that but being able to let go and let the guys who are really creative do what they do. I came into the ECW on the ep that Franchise announced that Beaulah was cheating with Kimona. That was the beauty of the Dreamer/ Raven feud. Many storylines within the bigger story. That's how you can drag out a feud almost as long as you want to, because it's always fresh.

I have to say I really enjoyed the last TNA too. The Roode family thing was fantastic. You never see stuff like that. And I think there are lots of good directions to take it to. I hope they don't just drop it.

The Gunnar gym thing went a long way to getting him over as a monster. Everyone was reasonable with him and he was just raging, throwing all these guys around. Pretty stiffly too. I'm liking this Gunnar/ Garrett thing. If done right, they're both going to get a lot of seasoning and they're both going to get way over.

I'm weirded out by AA's facial hair. But during his confrontation with Kid Kash, it hit me that I'm supposed to be weirded out by it. It's those subtle little details that help get a guy heat. I was never a KK fan when he was in ECW, but he was mostly enhancement talent. But getting him in front of a mic, he's really good. He's got that Arn Anderson interview style. Not loud, just matter of fact. It makes it much more believable. He reminds me a lot of the Grappler, Len Denton. He was always kind of an Assassin fat guy. Then one day he just showed up all muscled up. Not the bodybuilder kind, but the just big guy look. Like how Kash has gone from scrawny to pretty beefed up. It makes him more believable as a tough guy. Should be a great run.

Bully seems to be going back a little to the old Buh Buh character. Not full on idiot, but more humor than badass. He's really good when he does comedy. I hate Steiner, but he was really good. It was a good piece. They were riffing off each other nicely.

Sadly, I'm sure it'll be business as usual Thursday.

I'm really marking on Ring of Honor and the Briscoe Brothers. Weird look, unique promo delivery. They seem to be pretty much themselves, not a lot of character in their gimmick. Fantastic workers. They could shake the E of TNA up pretty well.

Go check out some old Briscoe Brothers, Barry. Back when they were 15 and their parents had to drive them to the shows. They weren't promo cutters by any means, but had much better technical, fast paced matches. Now they just seem to brawl all over the place. I don't dislike them, but I"m a bigger fan of the matches they used to wrestle before they grew up, bulked up, and learned how to talk.

Barry, You haz the Netflix Streaming, correct? They just put up docs on World Class Championship and AWA. I started the World Class one last night. I'm suspicious. They don't necessarily paint Fritz in a hero's light, but they make him sound like this nice guy that didn't drive his sons into suicide. I've only got to the death of David, so maybe it gets darker. Awesome seeing Gorgeous Jimmy Garvin as a fat, bald, soft-spoken man. Also pretty cool seeing Skandar Akbar in full sheik gear, breaking down kayfabe with a Texas drawl. I haven't watched World Class since I used to watch rasslin with my old man when I was eight years old, so it's bringing back an almost overwhelming amount of memories. Forgive me if you've seen this already, but as I was watching it, I kept thinking, "Man I wish Barry and my old man were here".

I've got both actually. The WCCW one brings back memories because ESPN was running their shows in the heyday. I think, with the benefit of hindsight, Fritz comes off as a person. And people make mistakes. It doesn't make them essentially good or evil. Shades of gray, I guess. Fritz was from my dad's generation, and they just saw the world differently. Add to it he was a jock, and seemed to be the worst kind of jock dad. You remember the ones in school. "If you don't win, don't bother coming home" was the one a teammate's dad hollered at a junior high basketball game. Just bump that up to a national/ international level and mix in that it's the business that feeds the family. There was an assload of pressure on them all. Plus being a pretty drugged up lockerroom. All pretty typical of family run territories, but then you throw in that they were running the promotion as a quasi- ministry. Those kids were God in Denton County. It all just leads to bad juju.

The part that is a mindfuck for me was Gary Hart talking about Geno. I mean, when I was in junior high and TBS got added to our cable, Gary Hart was the evilest of evil managers. He called Dusty by his real name. That made it all real. So to see how really haunted he was by Geno's death, that many years later, really threw me for a loop.

WCCW is a sad story. I remember after the last one killed himself (Chris or Kerry...I don't remember) and Doris left Fritz, Fritz was on a mainstream show...or maybe the 700 Club...he was a broken man. And he knew the end was just on the horizon. He basically admitted that everything he KNEW to be right, with the exception of his faith, was just wrong. Had to be a rough bit of insight for someone who had always controlled everything around them.

Wrasslin' just ain't the same now that The Grand Wizard, Classy Freddie Blassie and Captain Lou are dead. Pedro Morales and Bob Backlund were boring. The heels of the 70s were much more memorable. Ah, the days of Crazy Luke, George the Animal, "Professor" Tanaka & Mr. Fuji and the rest. Anyone else remember Vince Jr. before he got all roided out, back when Vince Sr. was the boss and Vince Jr. frankly seemed like a pussy when he had to interview the likes of Captain Lou or The Animal?

The E, or I guess the FF as it was, was pretty much a territory at that time. I was aware of it through the Apter mags. I think the difference was kayfabe. The suspension of disbelief. I miss the days of being able to mark.

Here Bawlmer the WWWF was our home circuit, and the long-reigning king was Bruno Sammartino and some of the popular "white hat" wrasslers included one Eye-tie who called himself "Gorilla Monsoon" and another Eye-tie who wrassled as "Indian Chief Jay Strongbow", The Ricans had Pedro Morales, who was the "world champ" for a few years in the early 70s between the two reigns of Bruno Sammartino.

Frankly, the heels were better showman and their managers, The Grand Wizard of Wrestling (some five foot short Jewish guy), Captain Lou Albano and Classy Freddie Blassie (when he was visiting the WWWF circuit) put on the best show on the circuit.

The only recent wrassler who matched them with a compelling story-line was Mick Foley. Aside from Foley and The Rock, Vince, Jr. IMO has failed to create believable characters and has allowed the WWE to become a technologically supercharged caricature of the three old circuits.

I always read about, and I might be a little off on the name, Spiros Aragone, or something like that. He feuded with Sammartino around '75ish? He seemed to be kind of a Dory Funk Jr. to Sammartino's Jack Brisco. But you never hear about him when "legends" are talked about. But you never hear about Pedro either. Maybe since Vince and Bruno have this feud going that era is verboten for discussion.

In the 80's Baltimore was a good wrestling town up for grabs. NWA and WWF both ran shows there. Philly to. Farthest north they came was an armory in South Jersey, except for a combine show or 2 with AWA at the Meadowlands, I think. They did a Dusty finish with Slaughter having to give back the NWA belt after the ref came to and said he saw Sarge throw Flair over the top rope.

I'm about half through the ROH PPV. Briscoes/ WGTT was pretty brutal. Apparently their fans cheer and boo whoever they want. The Steen/ Corino match was a real car wreck. It wasn't a spotfest, but it was really stiff. I'd forgotten what a really great worker Steve Corino is. And the match was just so brutal it was kind of uncomfortable to watch. I was even hoping it would end cuz these guys were just killing themselves. In the fist Terry Funk/ Sabu Barbed Wire match, we were reasonably sure Terry was going to bleed out. But this match, it was more shoot than work. Brutal match. USA! USA! USA!

Bennet is just pummeling him, will lethal last?!" is just fucking stupid. I know your supposed to put yourself in kayfabe, but this shit goes beyond obviously breaking it.

It was hard to watch TNA on Spike followed by the Ultimate Fighter. It just threw the difference between kayfabed working and fighting for your life.

I believe in some of the shoots I watched and stuff I read, that if you fucked up, whether botched a move, injured someone, or etiquette faux pas in the locker room, they would put you in matches w/guys that worked stiff as punishment, like Bob Holly, or JBL/Ron Simmons back when. And the guys would just have to take it, because if you stiffed them back, it would only get worse for you.

Yeah, Taker was/is the locker room leader/enforcer, like Monsoon supposedly was back in the day. Someone gets out of line, starts crabbing about jobbing, hard to do business with, Taker tells em what is expected, and they know what the consequences would be. Never heard a story of Taker having to actually administer locker room justice though. Then again, Taker had that crew w/ Papa Shango, Phineaus Godwin, I think Yokozuna and some others that would have left you laying in a puddle of blood and piss if you lifted a finger to defend yourself while Taker was beating you down. There is a reason Taker never left WWE, and I don't think it was money.

I don't think the business, at least at that level, is that way as much. When HBK and Hart had their "Sunny nights" dustup backstage, HBK walked and filed an unsafe work environment complaint.

Sometimes it happens tho. When Regal exposed Bill Goldberg on Nitro. I always heard Larry Hennig and the Crusher (I think) stopped "cooperating" with the Road Warrior and messed them up nicely. Inoki pretty much shot on Ali in their wrestler/ boxer thing. Fucked up Ali's legs really badly.

HBK did that because he could. If an Al Snow or a Santino Marella tried that shit, he'd been Future Endeavored, and Vince woulda spent millions trying to beat the case.

I guess it was just Goldberg, and from what I've read, that whole situation was way overblown by the internet hive mind. According to both Goldberg and Regal, Goldberg was completely lost during the match, and Regal was doing everything he could to try and lead him back on track, causing jaded fans into thinking that he was "shooting" on him, when in reality, he was just improvising and trying to salvage a match that wasn't being executed properly on Goldberg's end. Apparently, in Goldberg's book, he said that he got "lost" a lot in matches that involved more than his three moves.

Putting Bill in the ring with Regal was a mistake. Brad Armstrong, Jerry Flynn, Mike Enos, etc. were mid-level enhancement talent, but Regal was always recognized as being a tough-as-fuck mat technician. This guy was the real fucking deal. We're talking about a guy that started his career wrestling in fucking carnivals. Like, "hey tough guy, we'll give you fifty bucks if you can sucessfully out-grapple this man" type of wrestling. Putting him in the ring with an overpushed powerhouse with a limited moveset was just plain ole' classic WCW short-sighted booking. It's as if nobody even bothered explaining to Goldberg what a non-squash wrestling match was.

I remember watching that match a my folk's house. My dad was really thrown because it wasn't "right". It seemed shoot at first, but after a second watching, it looked like Regal just stopped cooperating. It makes just as much sense to see it as Goldberg freezing.

At that era WCW was doing on the fly booking, which could be really exciting if it played out well. If not, it was a trainwreck.

G-bug basically Ultimate Warrior w/o facepaint. Both, next to no actual skills, and needed practically nothing but squashes to avoid being exposed. Both thought the business needed them more than they needed the business. Both hated by workers that love the business. G-bug a little more personable and less nuts, so he got work outside the business. Neither one fit to tongue Lance Storm's yam bag. If Storm wasn't so damn Canadian and void of personality........

Storm is also known for having a real ethic and not compromising. He's had numerous offers from TNA and turns them down each and every time because he knows exactly how that scenario would play out. Storm's a real class act, and a hell of a rassler.

Krimzon not only came out of nowhere, but he fucking sucks. How you gonna' build a monster with an undefeated streak where the the guy fucking wins 65% of his matches with surprise roll-ups. Krimzon's streak was a joke when it started and continues as such to this day.

Most streaks are. I guess I understand the capital that gets put into winning streaks, but when everyone knew Bill G. had been beaten a couple of times before the streak, it became kind of a joke.

Brock and Heyman are buddy buddy, so I'd have Heyman come in as the office, throw the old timers out, have them revolt, then bring in Brock to kill them off one by one. Heyman and Brock would be babyfaces in this. Then when Brock is done taking out the trash, I put the strap on him and let him run with it. Use Styles as the face you gotta get through to get to Brock. First big feud with the strap would be Abyss. Brock is a fucking Monster, so he don't need a group around him, just a mouth piece. I'd throw him on TV from time to time in a handicap match w/ some X division guys for shits and giggles. But basically, you got a star who is a monster, that you can throw shit at and see who can get over.

And Brock would only have to show up every other week. Monday and Tuesday one week, and Sunday-Tuesday the other week. I don't know what you would have to pay him, since he was probably knocking down well over a mill a fight in UFC, not including endorsements.

Lesnar's health is problematic, tho. They tape a month worth of shows at a time, don't they? Having him work every other week might help him get through that. TNA shoots every other week, Monday and Tuesday at Universal Studios in FL, and they do a PPV once a month, the Sunday before a taping. They hardly do house shows, so he don't need to travel to them. You could even work into the gimmick that he only defends the title on PPV, so he could tape 2 vignettes/promos/backstage segments and 1 match first day of the tapings, and not stick around for the other.

Now, you do have to have Heyman doing the booking, otherwise, Brock may just up and leave if he don't like something. He trusts Paul, and few others. I'd approach them 2 months before Hogan/Bitchoff deals are up, and offer them the same contracts H/B had.

It is 2012, not 1992. Hogan is old, Eric was an office boy never creative, Angle is fragile. And like you said, Brock could have off from Oct-January. He is a big enough name that he walks right back to his spot. I'd try to have him keep the strap for a couple years, that way who ever beats him will be SUPER over. I think I've mentioned this before, but the root of TNA's problems all pretty much revolve around the fact that Dixie Carter is just too goddamn nice of a person to be anywhere near the wrasslin' biz. She should have released Russo a long, long, time ago, but considered him "family" and would rather save herself grief by not firing him, when any idiot with one cell up top could tell that his haphazard writing was killing the fed. Stories went absolutely NOWHERE under Russo's pen.

Look at Immortal. They spent like six months building up to that angle, only to have the group swell and shrink with the tides. Anderson was in and out of that faction, what, like four fucking times in a three month period? They never did anything except waste valuable wrasslin' time standing in the ring talking, and now, they're what, Gunner, Bully, and Bischoff? Steiner maybe? I couldn't even tell you who's currently in Immortal because they handled that storyline so poorly.

This stuff happens when a money mark has a daughter that needs a job.

I would think if Dixie's dad were a money mark he'd have some basic sense on how to run coherent storylines. Totally with fartz on this, but it's deeper than that. They don't tweak stories that are failing. They just dump them, no explanation, no closure. I'm under no illusion that writing weekly tv is the easiest thing in the world, but c'mon. Enough is enough. There's already boilerplate for Southern wrestling. Look at Lawler's old promotion. Modern up the stories a bit and run. They're trying to reinvent the wheel when the wheel is just fine.

That was Russo. In some Cornette shoots, he talks about being at creative meeting and Russo would pitch an idea like he re invented the wheel. Cornette would then say, "Oh, like, Bla bla bla did in 83..." and then give the lay out of how the entire storyline played out. Russo would get pissy, and make changes in the lay out for no reason, and they didn't make sense. I imagine that he did the same in TNA, and if it didn't click, just walk away and pretend it never happened. Cornette basically said Russo didn't consider wrestling fans marks, he just considered them stupid.

Which, at the end of the day, is what killed WCW. The Time- Warner people were ashamed that they owned a wrestling company. No matter the profits, no matter the contribution to the bottom line. It couldn't be allowed to thrive. Plain and simple.

I would have killed to be a fly on the wall in those booking meetings. Cornette is not a character. What you see is what you get. And Russo is a "writer". He very much feels he's an artiste'. I've seen several shoots with him and he is as real as Billy Jack Haynes. Delusional, but very sincere about it.

It ain't rocket science. It's booking wrestling. It's writing episodic tv. Both have been mastered. And there's only so many stories to tell. The Jarretts, of all people, should know this.

WCW of itself was a money loser/write off for years. The benefit of it was to promote other TBS/TNT shows to the demographic. In a Kevin Nash shoot, he talks about how even losing money, it was a cheap way to fill 5 hours of prime time ORIGINAL programming. He attributes the introduction of Thunder as the jump the shark moment, when it was bumped from 3 hours/week to 5.

The guy I knew was a big wrestler in school, so he figured he had the situation under control. He drops to one knee to do a single leg takedown. Ripper chose a less traditional response. He busted this guy over and over on the noggin with the strap. It was really brutal and was over in maybe 15 seconds.

Yeah, they used to get pretty crazy at GCW for being a hole-in-the-wall local promotion with a solid mix of decent rasslers, fat hoosiers, and yard-tards. Pedigrees and piledrivers through tables. Balcony dives. Exploding barbed wire. Brutal chair shots galore. Hell, one time, The Irish Luchadore Billy Mcneil climbed up a 30 foot chain attached to a garage to do a plancha through a table on none other than Matt.

Whenever the inevitable happens, he'll get half mommy and daddy's shares, and wait until Stephie craps out so he can take control.

What is the backstory on Shane taking the walk? I know he bailed, but I don't know why. I assume some heat with dad and/ or family, but I can also see a situation of wanting to strike out on your own and make your own mark in an industry that you weren't born into.

As for Franchise working at the Target, it's easy to giggle about it (God knows I have), but I've also known folks who've put in years at the Mart, or Target, or Albertsons or wherever that are pretty happy with the choices they've made. I mean, we get a steady drumbeat of those being loser gigs by people who have a bigger agenda, but there's money to be made there in the long haul. If I had to choose between the POS, no future, soul crushing gig that I've invested a decade- plus in today and investing the 20+ years in the grocery gig I had in college, I know which I'd choose today.

I believe Shane split when he realized that the control of the company was going to HHH and Steph. He had been doing the Linda thing, running the business side. He might be running mom's campaigns, I don't know. He had a meeting w/ Dana White, and it was rumored he was going to be buying into UFC, but in the end, I think it was more Dana picking his brain about over seas TV deals.

The guy is in his 40's, has a family, and probably got sick of doing the same shit he's been doing since he was born.

If you get the chance, check out the H/ Taker match from WM. Amazing that 3 guys who seldom work put on the most emotional, old style storytelling match I've seen in a while. It's within my top 15 or so. Really really great match.

Warning- LONG ASS POST set aside a good 10 to 15 if you really want to know why HHH is a piece of shit. I'm not going to take anything away from his mat and mic skillz, but it's behind the scenes nonsense that kills it for me.





WRITERS COURT: CASE OF THE POLITICAL ASSASSIN, PART 1
The match outcomes are predetermined, but the cases are real. The victims are real. The reality is real. Steph's breasts are fake. The judgments here are final and spiritually binding. (Hey, prove that they aren't.) Welcome to Writer's Court. Honorable Judge Simon presiding.

All rise. Now be seated. Dance on my strings, puppets. HAW HAW HAW! Now then, its time to hear today's case.

THE ACCUSED: Paul Levesque-McMahon, a.k.a. Triple-H, a.k.a. Hunter Hearst Helmsley, a.k.a. The Game, a.k.a. The Cerebral Assassin, a.k.a. That (pause) Damn (pause) Good, a.k.a. Jean Paul Levesque, a.k.a. Terra Ryzing, a.k.a. Mr. Stephanie McMahon.

THE CRIME: Holding guys down, sabotaging their careers, ruining the business as a whole and just general douchebaggery.

The PROSECUTION will argue that HHH is a shitbag who thinks nothing of burying guys to keep his spot at all costs. The Prosecution will further argue that HHH has cut off more guys at the knees than a midget samurai.

The DEFENSE will argue that most of the guys who HHH squelched were dickholes or fuck-ups themselves and frankly, didn't deserve a World title run anyway.

This Court will review 10 different case studies, then total up the verdicts and pass final judgment upon the accused. Writer's Court will now hear "The Case Of The Political Assassin."


CASE STUDY #1: HHH VS. KURT ANGLE (2000).

The Facts: HHH, Angle, and Stephanie were intertwined in a tri-angle that was the talk of the biz and a ratings machine, particularly among broads. All signs pointed to Steph leaving her storyline husband (HHH) for the sensitive "other man" (Angle). In the first known example of an HHH career-kill, he whined that no heterosexual woman would ever leave him, uh, I mean "his character." So after months of build, Steph inexplicably low-blowed Angle, allowing HHH to beat Your Olympic Hero in their big climatic no-DQ match at Unforgiven 00 (9/23/00).

The Prosecution: It made Angle look like a schmuck and did nothing to help HHH or Steph. Angle was in the middle of the biggest push any WWWFE wrestler had received in his rookie year (Euro Title, IC Title, King Of The Ring Winner), and this left him with less heat than an Abominable Snowman's taint. Even the trifling little fact that Angle won the World Title the following month didnt repair the damage HHH had done. The months of promos where HHH inferred that Angle was a homosexual didn't help Angle (or HHHs case) either.

The Defense: Screw Kurt Angle. After he won everything in his rookie year, what the hell was left for him to do? Besides, HHH has laid down for Angle a bunch of times. What about Royal Rumble 2001, which saw interference from Vince, Steph, and Trish before Steve Austin interfered and screwed HHH? Then there was No Way Out 2002, after the HHH/Steph storyline split. Angle beat HHH there after HHH got screwed by Steph the ref. It took HHH almost a full week to re-beat Angle to regain his status as #1 Contender for the World Title going into Wrestlemania 18.

The Verdict: Guilty. Kurt Angle is a once-in-a-blue-moon talent that got over DESPITE his visit to HunterLand. One could even suggest that Angle ruined it for the rest of them, because he stayed over anyway, wrongly implying that HHH didnt have "that much" power or that his shenanigans weren't "that bad." As for Hunter's WM18 match, we'll get to that shortly.



CASE STUDY #2: Jeff Hardy (2001).

The Facts: Jeff Hardy was one of the most popular wrestlers in the company and poised to pull a Bret Hart/Shawn Michaels, breaking out huge and leaving his tag team partner in the dust. Jeff beat HHH for the IC Title on Smackdown after Matt Hardy interfered and screwed HHH. The following Monday on Raw, HHH seethed that it was a "fluke" and proceeded to squash Jeff like a bug on Raw to regain the gold. When I say squash, I'm talking "Delicious rich and creamy butternut squash dripping with butter and cinnamon." Thats how all-encompassing a squash it was. Hell, even The Brooklyn Brawler would get in a couple offensive shots during his matches.

The Prosecution: Historically, an IC Title reign was the first step from stardom to superstardom. Thats how it worked for Bret, Shawn, Stone Cold, Rock, and even Hunter himself. Yet in this case, Jeff's six-day reign KILLED him. He was treated like a joke and fans never took him seriously as a heavyweight contender again. Jeff would have been so much better off had he never "beaten" HHH for the belt in the first place, and when you think about it, thats BEYOND sad.

The Verdict: Extremely Guilty. Even the Gamecocks* cant defend HHH on this one. This was a willful, calculated burial to keep Jeff from becoming "the next Shawn Michaels," as JR liked to bray. While I don't think the business was in danger of Jeff Hardy being the #1 guy, Jeff always did connect with his own rabid fanbase (i.e., prepubescent girls) and apparently that was enough to scald Hunter's dogs. No wonder the poor guy turned to drugs.

* Gamecocks = Term I just now this second started using for the few people running around who actually defend HHH.



CASE STUDY #3: HHH vs. Chris Jericho (2002).

The Facts: Jericho had a white-hot debut in 1999 with the "Y2J" gimmick and the tease-me-please-me "Countdown To The Millennium" clock that for months, promoted that something huge was about to happen. Jericho hit the ramp running with several hilarious, edgy promos. Fans took to him as a star immediately. It was about this time, the old Duke Boys Er, I mean Hunter, was finally getting his career push with his first World title win. Fans weren't so fast to warm up to HHH, and in many circles, there was talk that HHH's push should have gone to Jericho.

HHH never forgot this, and took steps to cut Jericho off at the knees every step of the way. There was an infamous Dusty finish on Raw in 2000, which saw Y2J pin HHH, only to have the referee "throw out the match" later in the show. HHH made sure to beat Y2J every now and then, whether it was a last-man-standing match at Fully Loaded 2000, or squashing him for the IC Title in 2001 just because HHH didn't want Jericho to have the slightest bit of cred with fans.

However, even wrestling fans know a mega-talent when they see it, and Jericho always busted his ass in the ring and got his share of heat, whether heel or face. Jericho was eventually rewarded for his years of servitude with arguably the biggest one-night push any wrestler would ever receive. After the ridiculous InVasion angle tanked like Abbott, a "Vengeance" PPV was on for 12/9/01. The hook was a kinda sorta mini-tourney with Austin vs. Angle for the WWF World Title, and Jericho vs. Rock for the generic "World Title" (formerly the WCW World Title). The winners would meet for a final winner-take-all unification match to crown the first undisputed champion. (I think Randy Savage might have something to say about that, seeing as how he beat FOUR guys in one night at WM4 to become the previous "first undisputed champion," but I digress.) Anyway, Jericho won the whole shebang, becoming the first and only wrestler ever to beat Austin and Rock on the same night. Not too shabby for a guy HHH said, "couldn't work the WWF style."

Anyway, Jericho was champ rolling into WM18 at the SkyDome in Toronto. HHH (who sat out most of 2001 with a torn quad) made his big comeback by winning the 2002 Royal Rumble, setting up HHH vs. Y2J on "the biggest stage of them all." The build to this Undisputed World Championship main event at Wrestlemania consisted of two key points:

1) At every turn, HHH reminded Jericho (and us) that Jericho never beat him.

2) Jericho and his belt served as backdrop for the "real" story of the HHH/Steph storyline divorce. This culminated with an angle wherein their dog Lucy, pooped backstage.

The Prosecution: HHH is an insecure little bitch. He's been holding Jericho down since day one and even now, theres no signs that things will ever change. While HHH is inconsistent in the ring at best, Jericho constantly has exciting. critically-acclaimed matches with a variety of opponents. Jericho is naturally one of the best promos in the biz, while HHH's promos are more forced than Mike Tyson in the hotel room of a beauty pageant contestant. If Jericho's song "Dont You Wish You Were Me" wasn't directly aimed at HHH, it should have been.

The Defense: Hey, is Lucy taking a dump really that much worse than Andre tearing off Hogans cross? Both angles were controversial for their time. And another thing about Jericho is that he's short. And, uh, he's blond. So in closing, I would like to refer everyone to www.bigbreastlovers.com and remind you that you owe me one.

The Verdict: Unforgivably Guilty. One of my favorite one-shot comic books is "JLA: Earth 2" by Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely. See the Justice League visits an antimatter world where everything is the opposite of things on the "real" world. Their word "good" is our word "evil," and so on. I mention this because thats kinda what Jericho's "career push" was like. Being the "first-ever undisputed champion" should have been a SUPER COLOSSAL MEGA HUGE deal. Being the only wrestler ever to notch wins over both Austin and Rock in the same night is nothing to sneeze at. At the very least, Y2J should have been portrayed as the top dog in the company. He wasnt even top five. Rather than MAKE Jericho's career, being undisputed World champion KILLED it. Told ya; Earth 2.

Jericho was somewhat a victim of circumstances as his reign happened to coincide with the major story of the NWO (Hogan/Hall/Nash) returning to the WWWFE. This, in turn, led to the mega-hyped Hogan-Rock showdown at WM18. (In fact, on the box of the WM18 video, it shows Hogan, Rock, and nobody else). Even the Flair-Undertaker feud got a solid build and tons of TV time leading up to the SkyDome. Those in and of themselves arent so bad; on the contrary, its how WM matches SHOULD play out. But at the very least, how about a "no dog crap" rule when promoting your WORLD TITLE MATCH AT WRESTLEFUCKINGMANIA???!!! You cant tell me that anyone on the planet thought that would actually sell tickets and/or PPVs. No, it was just Hunter pulling a Hunter.



CASE STUDY #4: HHH vs. RVD (2002).

The Facts: Even through the months of absurdity that was the InVasion, the one guy who got over in spite of it all was Rob Van Dam. WWWFE fans went apeshit for his acrobatic highspots, the likes of which they'd never seen before. On the downside, RVD tends to get a little careless with his "educated feet," and has legit bludgeoned more than a couple of his opponents. (During one run, he stiffed Jericho three times in three consecutive matches.) Coming off a latino-hot feud with Eddie Guerrero, RVD seemed posed to finally break through that glass ceiling and become a main-eventer. They even gave him a "gold magnet" push in 2002, where RVD successfully defended his IC Title in unification matches, absorbing both the European Title and Hardcore Title. But when it came time for RVD to take his turn with HHH you guessed it HHH squashed him.

The Prosecution: So RVD isn't a mat technician. The fans pop for him and buy his merchandise. Thats the name of the game, isn't it?

The Defense: Finally, HHH actually HAS a solid defense. For all the flippy-dippy highspots, RVD is a careless pothead who hands out more potatoes than the state of Idaho. The last two times he wrestled HHH, he accidentally legit injured HHH bad (throat and arm, respectively). All joking aside, can you really blame HHH for not wanting to work with the guy? This raises the question: "If a guy is super-over with the fans, but extremely careless with his opponents, does he still deserve a World title push?" Vince and Hunter said, "No," and frankly, its pretty tough to argue with them. Not content to suffer in silence, RVD went on a radio show last year and complained about being buried. While his claims had varying levels of validity, theres something to be said for being a professional and not publicly badmouthing your employer.

The Verdict: Not Guilty, dude. HHH is off the hook due to the fact that RVDs own sloppiness and lack of professionalism show me that for a World champion, he's one heck of an IC/Tag titleholder.



CASE STUDY #5: HHH vs. Kane (2002).

The Facts: Youd think the damn belts would have been enough. It was all set up for World champ HHH to battle IC champ Kane in a unification match that would effectively dissolve the IC strap. But Vince, Hunter, and God knows who else decided that that just wasn't enough incentive to get fans to push the "buy" button on their remote controls. So they concocted one of the WORST storylines ever, which saw HHH "out" Kane as a murderer who, as a teen, had killed his cheerleader girlfriend, Katie Vick. The Big Red Machine claimed that Katie's death was an accident when their car swerved off the road. (Yeah, right. Her and JYD, buddy.) Okay, so far, this was tasteless, but not really bad, right? Buckle up, Court Cadets. It's gonna get much, MUCH worse.

The culmination of this angle was a skit wherein HHH donned a Kane mask and visited a funeral home, complete with Katie mannequin lying restfully in a casket. HHKane then proceeded to hump Katie's mannequin corpse. Even by WWWFE "standards," this angle was so horribly offensive that fans tuned out by the thousands. It was selected "Gooker Of The Year" for 2002 by www.wrestlecrap.com (an award bestowed upon the worst of the worst).

The Prosecution: Necrophilia, for fucks sake??!! The Prosecution rests.

The Defense: Hey, you smarks were always complaining that Raw didnt do anything original anymore. Well, I dont know about you, but Id consider HHH putting on a Kane mask and slipping the shrunken testes to a mannequin dressed up to resemble a dead teenage cheerleader pretty freakin original. Theres no pleasing you people. Besides, HHH did the right thing here. After convincingly winning the big title vs. title match on PPV, Trips lost a non-title casket match to Kane on Raw when HBK interfered and cost HHH the match. Get off the guys back, will ya? Theres not enough room for you AND the acne.

The Verdict: "I screwed your brains out" Guilty. Like with Angle, Kane's career may have survived, but it was no thanks to Frankenschnozz. Oh, but HHHs Kaneophobia didnt end with a necrophilia angle. HHH was determined to kill the BRMs career at any cost. Stay tuned.



Oy, thats enough for one day. My head hurts just thinking about that damn Katie Vick angle. In two weeks time, this Court will hear the remaining evidence against the condemned er, I mean, the accused. Heh, heh.

CASE STUDY #6: HHH vs. Scott Steiner (2003).

The Facts: In the waning months of WCW, Steiner's nickname might as well have been "Jockitch," because he was the last guy to catch fire down south. The formula was ridiculously simple. Fans bought "Big Crotch-Rot Pump" as a legit tough guy who said he was gonna kick somebody's ass, then did it. Following in the footsteps of Stone Cold, Scotty was an anti-authority badass who once even went so far as to tell Nitro viewers to "change the channel and watch Raw." Oh yeah, and the more he berated his "freaks" (i.e., female companions), the more they wanted him.

When Vince bought WCW in 2001, most of the big names were tied up in Time Warner contracts that were as fat and juicy as the many platters of spare ribs that Stephanie eats for breakfast every morning. Hogan, Sting, Goldberg, all of 'em were sitting on their guaranteed money for months on end. Vince didnt wanna crack open the piggy bank to buy them out. (Note: Offers WERE made to buy certain guys out for pennies on the dollar, but the only one who bit was DDP. His reward was being pinned on TV by The Undertaker.................'s wife, Sara.) Steiner was under such a contract until it expired. After months of negotiations, Steiner was finally inked and made his debut at Survivor Series 2002 with a profanity-laced promo that popped even the cynical MSG crowd. The guy was OVER.

Not bothering with any of that "build" stuff, Steiner was immediately herded into a feud with World champion HHH as 2002 became 2003. I kid, I kid. HHH vs. BPP had a surprisingly strong build in and of itself as Steiner was pushed hard as the only man who could physically match up against The Great And Powerful Schnozz. HHH challenged BPP to many feats of strength and manliness (arm-wrestling, posedowns, push-up contests, etc). Steiner outclassed The Game at every turn, and they were really pushing that Hunter's gold was in double jeopardy. Now check out the timeline:

Royal Rumble (January 2003): Steiner-HHH went to a DQ finish in a match so bad, it got booed out of the building.

No Way Out (February 2003): HHH beat Steiner with a mercy-squelching. This rematch was arguably even worse than the previous months, and got even more boos, not because the heel won, either.

Wrestlemania 19 (March 2003): Steiner's stock had fallen so far with management, he wasn't even booked on the show. As for HHH's match, well get to that, momentarily.

The Prosecution: Had they properly built Scotty before the big World Title match..ah, who am I shitting? Steiner sucks.

The Defense: The Defense LIKES this case. Steiner was absolutely freakin HORRIBLE in those matches, blowing more spots than some freak with a leopard fetish. It's rare that a babyface is so bad, the crowd totally turns against him in mid-match, but that's what happened TWICE! It's hard to believe that this is the same guy who was tearing up the world with his brother Rick when they were the best tag team under the sun in the early 90s. In a bizarre way, hotshotting Steiner into a World Title match right away was a smart move, because it drew curiosity buys before people realized how badly he had come to suck. So in closing, Sucky Scott Steiner sucks.


The Verdict: Not Guilty. Steiner sucks. In fact Steiner sucked so bad, he even out-sucked Hunter's inherent suckiness. And baby, thats a whole lotta suck.

CASE STUDY #7: HHH vs. Booker T (2003).

The Facts: After the Steiner experiment turned out to be the equivalent of two trains crashing into a nuclear power plant, HHH needed a new victim on the biggest stage of 'em all in Seattle. Booker T was the best pick at the time, as Book-HHH was a fresh match and fans had really gotten behind the Bookerman after months of solid matches and camptastic skits with Goldust. Book won a battle royal on Raw to earn the WM title shot, eliminating no less than The Rock to start his road to WM. Everything was going great until Book's first angle with HHH.

HHH played the race card, stopping just short of trying to get over "Your name-AH is Kunta-AH Kinte-AH" as his new catchphrase. HHH did say stuff like "People like YOU exist only to entertain me" and did such great WM-level angles as attempting to tip Booker T upon encountering him in a mens room (!). Not enough for ya? Well, they trotted out the mug shot of a young Booker who legit did time for robbing a Wendy's in his misspent youth.

Needless to say, HHH pedigreed and pinned Booker at the big dance. At least there was no actual, factual dog crap involved this year.

The Prosecution: Triple-H? Triple-K is more like it. HHH finally books himself in a feud with a guy who can hold up his end of the promos and what does he focus on? The fact that Booker is black. Gamecocks may say that Hunter was just playing the "Million Dollar Man" type prickish heel who treats everyone like a servant, but the fact remains that he pulled this crap with THE ONLY OVER BLACK SINGLES WRESTLER ON THE WHOLE GODDAMN ROSTER. Calling attention to Booker's legit criminal past buried the guy, too. Were not condoning armed robbery, but the guy paid his debt to society and worked his ass off to better himself, both in his personal and professional life. Speaking as a fan, it was downright offensive to watch.

The Defense: Didn't HHH job to Booker in a tag match during the WM build? I'm not being smarmy here; I think he did, but I can't remember. Anyway, Booker should have thought about all of this before he robbed a Wendy's. Hunter was fighting for the honor of Dave Thomas. Um, yeah.


The Verdict: Guilty, sucka. (Just like a certain sports-entertainer who once knocked over a Wendy's!) It's a borderline case, but if Cripple-H was going to go "super heel" with the racial crap, he should have done the right thing in the end (i.e., a "job") to justify it. TWF mascot Booker Bear is still pissed about this. Cant blame the little guy.

CASE STUDY #8: HHH vs. Kevin Nash (2003).

The Facts: Nash benefited from the Mark Henry philosophy of booking, in that Vince said to himself, "We're paying this guy main-event money, so we might as well give him a main-event push to justify it." The result was four PPV's worth of Nash vs. HHH in some capacity. Their matches were terrible, their promos were terrible, even their pyro was terrible. You heard me.

The Prosecution: The Prosecution throws its hands up on this one, but it would like to point out that for the record, HHH is a cockspit for making us sit through a HHH-Nash feud in the first place.

The Defense: Nash was past his prime three contracts ago. No way should Hunter have laid down for him. Besides, if nothing else, we got a great promo from Mick Foley during the build to the worst non-Bossman "Hell In A Cell" match of all time.


The Verdict: Not Guilty. Come on, it's Kevin Fucking Nash. Arguably, the one "main eventer" more banged-up, washed-up, used-up, and just plain fucked-up than HHH himself. If theres one guy who was less deserving of a World Title run than HHH, its Oz.

CASE STUDY #9: HHH vs. Kane (2003).

The Facts: If at first you dont succeed, suck, suck again. Kane refused to play dodgeball because he was sad. The Big Red Machine wasn't quite himself, so Steve Austin did what any responsible co-GM would do; He gave Kane a stunner. This relit Kane's pilot light and he went on a chokeslamming spree. Then out of nowhere, HHH invited Kane to join Evolution for some stupid "Stephanie wrote this crap" reason. Kane responded to HHH's offer with another goozle massage. This turned into one of those stupid retarded-kids-playing-chess angles where Austin made a title match, but co-GM Eric Bischoff insisted that Kanes mask be at stake, as well. Figure Four Weekly editor Bryan Alvarez put it best when he said, "After all these years, theyre going to unmask Kane on free TV with no build." And so they did. Evolution helped HHH get the win, after which Kane unmasked, revealing him to be not the brother of The Undertaker, but rather the identical twin of The Missing Link. Understandably embarrassed, Kane forsook the ways of the babyface and returned to his roots as a chokeslamming Heelenstein.

But at least there was no fucking necrophilia this time.

The Prosecution: Okay, I'm not even gonna mention that something this monumental should have been built for a PPV. If youre gonna de-mask your biggest masked wrestler, the guy who did the de-masking should have at least gotten some momentum out of the deal. Remember when Foley made HHH? HHH crowed about it for, Well, he's still crowing about it. But THAT'S how you do it. At the very least, Kane's downfall should have been funneled into Randy Orton's "legend killer" gimmick. But it wasn't. And another thing: Make the Big Red Machine into a deranged monster heel, sure, but shouldn't he have been just the slightest bit annoyed with Hunter and Evolution for unmasking him? I can even buy the fact that Kane started his rampage against RVD because it was Rob (his former tag partner) who pushed him into the mask-vs.-belt match in the first place. But still; at some point, Kane should have gone after HHH and his dancing bears for revenge.

The Defense: Kane was more stale than French bread, which is stale by nature anyway. Why the fuck does anyone eat that crap, anyway? Ahem, the Defense digresses. Kane needed a change, and if he was going to lose the mask, why would risk it against anything less than the World Title? And for what it's worth, the unmasking DID give a noticeable bump up to the ratings at a time when the company desperately needed it.


The Verdict: Guilty. No follow-up with the guy who unmasked him? Then no defense holds up. Ironically, Kane kinda IS the indestructible monster that he plays on TV. No matter how many times a McMahon (or McMahon-in-law) kicks him into that proverbial firepit, he just keeps coming back without a scratch on him. Losing the mask is DEATH for a guy's cred, yet the BRM evolved and is still a great, effective character to this day. No one has an unkind word to say about Kane behind the scenes, where he is regarded as a consummate professional who has paid his dues, but still works as hard as anyone. Kind of the Anti-Hunter. Thats it, I'm buying a Kane t-shirt just on GP.

CASE STUDY #10: HHH vs. Goldberg (2003).

The Facts: After abortions like the InVasion, the NWOs return, and Scott Steiner's resurgence, one of the last "sure things" out there was a nice Jewish boy named Bill Goldberg. Goldberg set the world on fire back in 1998 as the unstoppable spear-chucking, hammer-jacking irresistible force who plowed through WCW, culminating with a World Title win over Hulk Hogan in the Georgia Dome, which was arguably the last true mark-out moment in WCW history.

The day after WM19 saw Goldberg's much-anticipated Raw debut. Goldberg immediately went into a hot feud with The Rock. While their match at Backlash was a commercial and critical flop, fans still wanted to pop for Goldberg, and things were moving in the right direction as Goldy subsequently moved into a better-booked and better-wrestled PPV match against Jericho at Bad Blood.

Then it was time for the big money dream match: Goldberg vs. HHH for the strap. It was on for SummerSlam 03, then it wasn't. For some reason, SummerSlam was remixed into a six-man Elimination Chamber with HHH and Berg being joined by Jericho (good), Shawn Michaels (good), Randy Orton (why?), and Nash (shoot me now). Hunter beat Goldberg to win the EC match, which took the wind out of everyone's sails, heat-wise.

HHH then lost the strap to Goldy the following month at Unforgiven in a match that served as a backdrop to the bullshit storyline of Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler "calling their last match" after they lost a stip match to Coach & Al Snow earlier in the show. After a spirited but ultimately unsatisfying "bounty" angle (the payoff was the return of Batista, for fuck's sake), HHH lost to Goldberg again at Survivor Series 03. This time, their match was hotshotted onto the card with less of a build going into the PPV than any other match on the show (yes, even less of a build than Guerreros-Bashams). Finally, the feud ended up in a triple-threat with Goldberg vs. HHH vs. Kane at Armageddon 03. This is where HHH got his belt back by icing the Berg one last time. (And for those of you playing along at home, despite being in a World Title PPV main event against the guy, Kane STILL didnt seem too upset with HHH for taking his mask. Sigh.)

The Prosecution: The Elimination Chamber quickly turned from the best-booked match of the year to the worst booked match of the year as Goldberg mowed through RKO, HBK, and Y2J before HHH pinned him to end both the match and any semblance of momentum the guy had. And yeah, we know, we know. Goldberg is an unprofessional whiny bitch who throws temper tantrums when things dont go his way. Bruce Mitchell of the Pro Wrestling Torch put it best when he said, "This business is about making money, and once again, the WWE (left) money on the table." Vince used to be all about protecting a guy's weaknesses. If he could do it with guys like Warrior and Sid, there's no excuse for exposing Goldberg's shame to a world not quite ready for it.

The Defense: Goldberg is an unprofessional whiny Um, right. Ah, ol whisker-biscuit was past his prime, anyway. Besides, Hunter DID lose to him. Twice! Thats twice more than most of the other guys HHH has worked with.


The Verdict: Guiltyberg. It was the damn Chamber. I dont care how many times HHH laid down for Berg (and theres a big difference between "laying down" and "putting someone over"); HHH torpedoed Goldberg at a crucial point in the guy's push and Goldy never fully recovered. Thats our Hunter!

FINAL VERDICT: This Court finds HHH guilty as charged. No surprise here. For his punishment, I can think of none more fitting than this: Paul Levesque, I sentence you to a legacy of political backstabbing that FAR overshadows any of your accomplishments inside the ring. Ironically, you yourself are one of the biggest "hardcore" wrestling fans in the world, yet there is not one other "hardcore" fan out there who thinks that you're anything less than an overrated, overpushed, injury-prone, son-in-law. Telling Jim Ross to say "Harley Race" every time you drop a knee ain't gonna cut it, buster. When fans sit around talking about the greats in the game, your name will never come up. You will be forgotten, or worse, remembered for who you really are. Live with it.

However, this is a merciful Court. To that end, I would suggest that Paul and his loyal Gamecocks can take solace in the fact that HHH isn't ALWAYS in the wrong; just 70% of the time.

So remember, if there are doin's afoot in the rasslin biz and no one has the power, the brains, or the balls to call a spade a spade (figure of speech; not to be confused with HHHs "elevation" of Booker T), don't just run to your father-in-law and tell him "This guy cant work WWF style." I'm gonna go back and read it. It night night time. But you'll get no debate from me that he's a royal piece of shit. In ring, cutting promos, psychology, he's in the Top 20 today. Here's the thing: he's the sober one in the Clique. While they were riding on top (except Waltman, of course), he was the one sitting back, not making a spectacle of himself, paying attention. That's pretty calculating. He's a piece of shit.

Right there is what you have to compare HHH to. What ever order you put those 4 contemporaries in, HHH is fifth. All 4 of those guys can put on a decent match with anyone, and HHH needs to be carried. That is why those Steiner matches sucked, and the Nash ones. Besides the backstage politics, if a guy couldn't carry him in the ring, HHH sandbags what little he does to make the opponent look even worse.

It also disgusts me that they try to play him up to be a modern day Flair. Just cause you fuck the owner's daughter, so you've had the strap so many times, don't make you Flair. In a week, Flair would put out top quality matches against a wider variety of opponents than HHH sees in 6 months. Flair never got the belt because they had no one else to put it on. FLAIR NEVER NEEDED A GAY FUCKING SLEDGEHAMMER TO GET OVER.

Flair sucks HHH's balls and strokes his ego, because with HHH in his pocket, he'll always be able to pull a paycheck. I guaran-fucking-tee, that if you got Flair away from the cameras and had the right amount of Kamakazees and cocaine, he'd sing a different tune about Stephie's Bitch.

I love the fact that HHH is ENORMOUSLY jealous of Austin and the Rock still. Hunter is B+ to A- talent, and that is only because of the family push he gets. Fuck him.

P.S. Of the guys he tanked pushes on, I'd take Angle, Booker T or Jericho, in there prime, over HHH, if I was starting a promotion tomorrow.

The thing I hate about the sledge is the thing I hated about when Abyss carried "Janice". You never saw them use it...or at least never saw them use it "right". I never thought of him as a tweener. I agree he's been over as fuck the last couple of weeks, but that's way too short a time to just switch him. The Stone Cold thing was long and drawn out and that made the transition more believable. And he didn't start hanging out with faces for a long time too. I went to the Extreme Reunion tonight. I'll start off by telling you about Sabu, in case you don't follow TMZ. Shane Douglas came out before the main event, in which he was supposed to face Sabu. He told the crowd that Sabu was found unresponsive in his hotel room, and that he was at the hospital. He said they had been contacted by TMZ for info, but they didn't have any. My opinion: If dude was MIA all day, and then found unresponsive in his hotel room, dude was dead int he hotel room, but they gotta find family and tell them, before they can tell the press. I don't know shit, and I hope he's ok (they said it was an allergic reaction to medication) but that is my guess.

Before the show started, they did a video tribute to all the fallen guys and girls that wrestled in ECW. No Benoit. Eddie Guerrero got the loudest pop.

People had little kids there. A fucking 3 year old shouldn't have been there. You shouldn't bring little kids anywhere that multiple "YOU SUCK DICK" chants are going to break out and Joel Gertner is going to cut a promo. There were enough lil kids in the joint that they shoulda had a corner penned off for them. One drunk a couple rows behind me was there with like a 3y/o and a 7 y/o and swearing up a storm.

Jerry Lynn/Devon Storm was the best match of the night. It was supposed to be Lynn/Justin Credible, who was there earlier. No reason was given for the switch. Storm got busted up pretty bad, like between the forehead and temple, he was bleeding like a pig. I think it happened during a spot where Storm set up a section of guard rail on the ring and the rail, then Jerry wound up suplexing him on it 5 minutes later. After the match, Jerry thanked the fans that made ECW great and said he was retiring at the end of the year. The "YOU STILL GOT IT" chant that broke out was touching.

Balls/Axl was a pretty good match, chair shots, weapons and blood. Al Snow/CW Anderson wasn't, arm locks, head locks, and way too many cheap pops using the head, before, during and after the match.

New Jack and Mustafa didn't really have a match. Some dude that was in the Baldies came out and cut a promo that they interrupted. They beat the shit outta him. Jack had some Wolverine type brass knuckle knives he cut the dude's head with. Then some local tag team came out, and scrumbled with them to the back.


Raven was supposed to wrestle Pit Bull 1. He brought out 3 dudes that jumped the Pitbull and beat him down, while Raven yapped into the mic. Then the Sandman came out and spent 10 minutes drinking his way through the crowd before fuckin suckas up w/ the kendo stick.

He even caned the handicapped guy Raven brought into the ring. Dude had to be fireman's carried to the ring and rolled in. Then he had to be leaned up against the ropes and use a cane to stay vertical. When they were beating the Pitbull down in the corner, one of Raven's henchman THREW the handicapped guy down on him. Handy man was wearing a "Limpin Aint Easy" shirt. If I was betting, I'd say the guy had CP.

2 Cold Scorpio took Sabu's place in the main event. Him and Shane beat the shit out of each other. Shane may be to fat to take his shirt off, be he can still put on a good slobber knocker. They fought right past me up into the bleachers. While they were scrumbling their way to the top and down and back up again, I had to hold the ref from falling off once or twice. I think Shane busted his nose, because he was bleeding like a bastard from his nose and mouth. Dude came out with a mask on, to do a double cross run in, wound up hitting Shane in the grill with an elbow. Took the mask off and it was Kevin Sullivan. Some other guy did a run in at the end, but I go no clue who. Got some nice video of Shane getting kicked in the face, when they were on the floor a foot a way from me. I'm going to have to buy the DVD, to see what I look like on TV. If the camera adds 10 pounds, its going to look like I ate a lot of cameras.

After the show, my buddy and I hit a diner, on our way to the casino. White guy and a black guy get seated right behind me. As I sat side ways in the booth, I saw the guy had tattoos on the back of his neck and was wearing a skull cap or something like that. When I see them coming back from the salad bar, I think its New Jack. They sit down and the black guy says to his friend, "I heard Shane got legit hurt."

I open my yap, and say, "He was bleeding from the mouth pretty bad..." was gonna say that he probably broke his nose, but:

New Jack turns to me, looks me dead in the eyes, and says, "WHO...are you?"

"Just some asshole that was at the show, man."

"Well, I was talking to HIM," as he points at his friend, but looking directly at me.

"Sorry man," and I turned around.

My buddy gets back from taking a leak and we get back to bullshitting. After a few minutes, I hear New Jack say, "Hey man, what's your name?" as he puts out his hand. I turn side ways again, tell him my name, and shake his hand, "I'm sorry I bit your head off." He went on to say he was in a bad mood, and vaguely why. I said "that's ok. I understand. I got no problems. Shit happens."

About 10-15 minutes after that he comes to my booth with 2 DVDs. Said he wanted to apologize again. He musta went to his car and got me the 2 DVDs of his. He autographed one. As I picked them up, I said, "Holy shit! Thanks man. Is one of them your YouShoot, I've seen clips of it." He told me one of them was his latest shoot, where he talks about Teri Runnels. I told him he didn't have to do that, but thanks. Later, when my buddy and I got up to leave, I turned, held up the DVDs, and thanked him again.

Then I went and lost $140 at the casino.

I got a cool pic of me and the Sandman at the show. Cost $10, but worth it. During the intermission, a bunch of the boys were hanging out at the back of the crowd.

There was a really hot midget sitting about 10' from us. I texted my buddy that we should grab her, throw her in the trash can, and run outta there with her. He must not be into midgets, so all he did was laugh. She didn't have the normal midget face. It was like a cute face, stretched over a midget's wonky head.

Oh, and they brought some stripper into the ring for some filler. I went out to have a cigarette. Well there was a hot attention whore Asian chick in like the 3rd row, that stood up on her chair and flashed her tits to the crowd. I missed it When she walked by us later, my buddy told her that her tits were really nice, and she thanked him.

I couldn't find the charger for my digital camera, so I had to rock the cell phone camera, not so good. The way the lights were set up, the friggin thing went to low light mode, and the ring lights made a big blob in the middle of the pics. Here's one of New Jack though, going to the top rope.

The place was fucking packed. They were selling standing room at the door for $20. I'm not a good judge of crowds (1000-2000, I don't know) but they made fucking money, and the DVD sales will probably be good. They are already selling tickets to their next show, June 30. Earlier in the night I heard they are trying to build it into a regular thing. If so, I hope Kevin Sullivan is around to book, and not just a one off.

Every time I re-read this mess, to edit out my fuck ups, I remember something else. Unfortunately I have another memory that is haunting me. The 400 pound dude that sat in front of us had a BO thing going on. Like feet, dookie and sweat. I was tempted to go get some buffalo wings, just to rub some of the sauce in to my mustache, and block it out. I can still kinda smell him.

Sabu isn't dead, he is in ICU. That is a plus.

Justin Credible was removed from the Extreme Reunion show. Credible was advertised to wrestle Jerry Lynn, with Devon “Crowbar” Storm being added to the match as a surprise, reports PWInsider.

There were concerns regarding Credible’s condition backstage over the course of the show. Sources claim at one point, he was “slumped over, passed out asleep” in a chair. He was asked to leave the building and was removed from the show.

After leaving the building, Credible returned and pleaded his case to the promoters, asking to be placed back on the show, however he was turned down. He came out and walked around in the crowd late in the show then was walked to the back and left the venue."

I saw Justin hanging around the gimmick tables at the back of the arena, before the show. He was chatting with fans. From a distance, he didn't seem out of sorts.

I don't know how TMZ reported Sabu MIA all day, when there was a dude with a room key there. There was a fan fest between 9am and 1pm, then the show was to start at 7pm. I don't think it started until about 7:30-8PM, and there was a lot of filler in there at the beginning.

According to some tweets from Tommy Dreamer, Sabu is still alive.

That sounds pretty fucking cool, jerk. Although I have trouble imagining the matches being too compelling outside of a live atmosphere. Guys are just too old, man.

Yeah, that is why Raven talked, and Sandman just did his cane spot. Pitbull looked to be in decent shape. Shane and Scorpio were over weight, but they worked a fun match, that went for a while. BWO/FBI was a lot of comedy, but that is what they were anyway. I mean, there was a lot of shmaltz in the night, it wasn't an 80's Starrcade, but the only terrible match was Snow/Anderson.

There was one jobber tag match to start the show, and then a hatchet job of run in while 2 jobbers were being announced for their match, where no one knew who the guy was that ran to the ring, cut a promo, then split through the crowd.
The crowd was nuts. Half the time you couldn't hear what the announcer was saying, because he was getting booed so bad, and Shut The Fuck Up chants. Jerry Lynn said what he found great about the ECW crowd was that they'd chant "You Fucked Up" then 30 seconds later, switch it to "You Are Awesome."

I didn't buy tickets for the next event while I was there, but I'll keep an eye out to see who is on the card, and more than likely go. I'll have to go to the fan fest, if for no other reason than to thank New Jack again.

Very cool. I think events like that belong in small halls, casinos, that sort of thing. A more intimate atmosphere, for lack of a better term.

I can't imagine Sabu not doing tons of painkillers on a regular basis. The truth, in some fashion, will come out. Hoping it all works out well.

It is dumb luck that Jersey is in such a hot bed. NWA and WWF both used to run Philly. During the Monday Night Wars, Philly, the Meadowlands, and MSG had shows all the time. If I had the money back then, I could have also done short trips to North East PA, Baltimore, Long Island to see them at major venues. Then ECW would run any hall they could put 500 seats in, for really next to nothing. I should have gone to more ECW events than just one, but I was a broke shit head back then. Now WWE runs b-shows in Trenton's minor league hockey stadium (Smackdown, WWECW when that was around, house shows).
