In the non-porn vein, what DVD (or video tape for old school types) have you just popped into the player?

Just saw "30 Days of Night," vampire flick (so-so). About to watch "Eastern Promises". Hope to see "No Country for Old Men" soon.

The Black Adder was the shit! So many people only know Rowan from Mr. Bean, which is pretty sad because it's no where near as good as the Adder.

I watched that show when it was first broadcast. On UPN I believe. It was one of the flagship shows(w/ a star Trek franchise,IIRC).

It was quietly cancelled in the off-season so I never learned what the fuck was really going on. I fucking hate TV networks that do that. Fox did the same thing with John Doe.

Nowhere Man filming locations:

Aurora, Oregon, USA | Beaverton, Oregon, USA | Canby, Oregon, USA | Cornelius, Oregon, USA | Los Angeles, California, USA | Marylhurst, Oregon, USA | Oregon City, Oregon, USA | Portland, Oregon, USA | REED COLLEGE | West Linn, Oregon, USA | Yoder, Oregon, USA

I myself I'm finishing up "Rome 2" and have ordered and received "Sopranos - Season 6, Parts 1 + 2." Then again, TV shows are coming back after the strike including "Hell's Kitchen" and "Battlestar Galactica" (20 EPISODES!) next week, coupled with ongoing "Top Chef" and "Kitchen Nightmares" (reruns; missed the first run) on BBC America, and I got a great box set of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three_Colors to also watch, and of course, baseball is starting (don't forget March Madness) and....

LOVED Rome!

Like season 1 more than season 2 ... but I've always been more taken with Julius Caesar & the dissolution of the First Triumverate than Antony & Cleopatra and the ultimate ending of the Second Triumverate.

Plus, I like the triple corruption of Kerry Condon in the first season! I've got a thing for her.

Alas, the reverse. I preferred Antony the "rock star" of 2 versus the "mope" of 1. J.C. was a stiff. "Adult" Octavian was all kind of creepy (and, of course, Rome's greatest leader, Augustus). Fuckin' battle of Philippi, man...

You know what it might be? The history getting in the way for me.

They stuck to it pretty good in 1 and were much more fast and free with it in 2.

It's not that I can't allow for license in a historical-drama. I did like the novel twist of Caesarian NOT being Caesar's kid.

But, stick to important stuff.

Like, they made Polly Walker's Atia so strong, but they had Octavian completely dominating Livia. Livia was no submissive.

And, not mention that Livia was pregnant at the time let alone married with a kid [Tiberius]. [And, that Octavian also had a kid ... his crazy "future" whore daughter Julia].

I guess since they weren't going to continue, they just cut the future out from under themselves.

I know it's a drama but ....

Plus, the whole Judean "zealot" side-story sucked. And, killing off sweet Eirene and her baby made me very, very sad.

Started watching a show called Locked Up Aboard yesterday. They should change the title to 'How to exploit stupid people'. Yesterday's show seriously got on my nerve. Some stupid bitch and her mumbling boyfriend accept to bring back suitcases for a stranger they meet in a bar in Amsterdam. All this happens in 2004 yet somehow, all the hype about this sort of thing happening since the 70s eluded them. Who the fsck agrees to fly out to Costa Rica to bring back suitcases to a stranger?

Today's story was even better. This one geezer swallowed 60 something condoms of coke and took a 46hr flight to Sydney from San Francisco. Good one mate.

I like Intervention. I think I've seen every episode, but I might be wrong. The weird thing is, I hate the actual intervention part of the show. I usually channel flip during that part. The first part of the show with people all fucked up, falling down, tearin shit up, fighting, stealing, lying and then the results at the end of the show if they're still sober or not are the best parts, imo. The alcoholics are my favorite, they fall down a lot.
Posted by: ranathan

Re: What are you watching? - 04/07/08 09:39 PM

rofl king, completely agree, the overbearing aunts wearing sweaters that you would find at t.j. maxx, the supremely confident intervention director who claims, aaaaaaannnddd i was a junkie in the 70's and yet now she looks like a sunday school teacher yet way more condescending

EASILY the worst part of that show, plus the weird time breaks its like you get 9 minutes of show, instead of the usual 6, and then 13 minutes of commericals, its almost impossible to watch that thing start to finish

My "golden idea" of cooking shows would be for Keller to do the same thing for six restaurants on PBS.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Keller

The "charm" of the series would be Keller's inherent discomfort with the camera and leaving his restaurants...

He eventually "warm up" to the concept, and establish rigid cooking techniques in the restaurants he visits...

Me too. It seemed perfunctory. Good scenes I remember are: nighttime artillery barrage in the Hurtgen Forest and a later assault that breaks down due to poor officer leadership. Bad scenes that I remember involve David Schwimmer.

Finished off all 86 episodes of "The Sopranos", and I'm now watching the new Gold Box edition of "Twin Peaks."

Watching- Vh1 Rock Honors The Who

The Foos were on..Tenacious D.. Pearl Jam.. Sandler even..
I thought they sucked.

Then The Who came on. Daltry looks like a middle aged Elton John and can't even sing his own songs. The sound was shit and Petes the only real player left. Right now the Foos are back on and its the highlight.

edit..Incubus sucks too

Actually, that was kinda cool in a very interesting, acoustical nightmarish kinda way. I can picture Gia in her panties and a Ketel One bottle prancing around her pad as tha Ting Tings Blare. That Blondie Blond Singer was kinda Hott. Sadly. Mickey Basil was kinda hideous, and those AMAZONS she has dressed as Las Vegas High School Cheerleaders in the Mickey Video are scary, especially the 6' 2" girl seen at the front of the cheerleader formation.

In 1982, the only kids going to Las Vegas High were the (1) Bastard Children of Vegas Mobsters who were already, or about to be, pinched ala Martin Scorcese Casino; (2) Mormon offspring of the county commissioners and original townfolk settlers; (3) A sprinkling of Whore & Showgirl Milfs' kids (the subset of the whore population unable to take the pill back then); and (4), the FIRST generation of Black (Bloods & Crips) teen gang members transplanted from L.A. by well meaning single black mommies seeking to escape L.A.'s burgeoning gang scene, and the occasional Mexican Bastard child of the maids at the old Sands and Stardust.
