Mother of the Year - 12/09/06 07:54 PM

China Arnold enters the Hall of Fame Mother of Year for cooking her child in the microwave.

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) -- A woman suspected of killing her month-old daughter by putting her in a microwave oven was indicted on a charge of aggravated murder Thursday, and the prosecutor said he would seek the death penalty.

The indictment against China Arnold, 26, does not provide details on the death of Paris Talley.

Investigators have said evidence that includes high-heat internal injuries and the absence of external burn marks on the baby were consistent with a microwave oven. The baby died on August 30, 2005. Her mother was arrested last week.

"The Montgomery County coroner came to the conclusion that the injuries sustained by this baby could have only been caused by being placed into a microwave oven and having that oven turned on and [cooking] the baby to death," Montgomery Country Prosecutor Mathias Heck Jr. said at a news conference.

Heck declined to discuss a possible motive or release any other details about the case. He said Arnold would be subject to the death penalty if convicted because the victim was a child.

Defense attorney Jon Paul Rion said Arnold had nothing to do with her child's death. He said Arnold and the child's father had left Paris with a baby sitter the night before she found the baby unconscious.

"China has the moral courage and the confidence in her God that the truth will come out in this case," Rion said. "We will seek every single way possible to communicate to our government and to the jury in this case that China is innocent of all the charges."

Arnold is being held on $1 million bond. Heck said he will ask the court to order her held without bail at a hearing Tuesday.

Mom allegedly leaves kids in car to tan

Fri Feb 9, 10:02 PM ET
SHEBOYGAN, Wis. - Sheboygan police arrested a woman after she allegedly left her two children in a freezing car for 20 minutes while she went tanning.

The 27-year-old woman was arrested after two people spotted the children, ages 23 months and 10 years, in the car, the police department said in a news release. The vehicle was locked but not running.

Officers responding to the scene Wednesday evening were approached by the children's parents. The father met the mother at the tanning salon and was arguing with her about why the children were in the car, police said.

The children were dressed warmly, but they had "goose bumps" from the cold, the release said. They did not require medical attention.

The temperature at the time was 12 degrees, with a wind chill index of about minus 2 degrees.

The woman could be charged Friday with two counts of misdemeanor child neglect, police said.

"She said she was going on vacation and felt that the tanning was a priority," Lt. Jeff Johnston said Friday.

NEW ORLEANS: A 17-year-old murder suspect police said was urged by his mother to shoot a rival after a fist-fight, has turned himself over to authorities, according to a media report.

Clarence Johnson's attorney told investigators the teenager would turn himself in, police spokesman Sgt. Joe Narcisse told the New Orleans Times-Picayune. He had been sought by investigators since the shooting Wednesday night.

"He understands he is in a very, very serious situation that his life depends on," Johnson's attorney Clif Stoutz told the newspaper.

Johnson allegedly shot Robert Dawson, also 17, shortly after Dawson got the best of him in a fist-fight Wednesday. Johnson initially walked away from what witnesses described as a routine fight — but then, according to police, he returned with a gun his mother gave him, along with instructions to seek revenge.

Police on Thursday arrested the mother, Vanessa Johnson, 44. Inside her home, they found a small amount of cocaine and a wall-mounted picture of her son holding a pistol and a wad of cash.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - A Woonsocket mother and her boyfriend are headed to trial on charges they had intercourse in front of the woman’s 9-year-old daughter as a way to teach the girl about sex.

Rebecca Arnold, of Woonsocket, and her boyfriend, David Prata, have pleaded not guilty to felony child-neglect charges. A pre-trial conference is scheduled for next month.

When questioned by an investigator from the state Department of Children, Youth and Families, Prata, 33, said he and Arnold, 36, had sex ”all the time” in front of the child and that ”we don’t believe in hiding anything.”

He said the girl would often be on the bed watching as the couple had sex. Though they did not ask her to leave, they also did not force her to remain on the bed, Prata said.

Asked why he thought a child that age should know about sexual acts, Prata replied, ”We wanted to prepare her so she would know how,” according to a report from the investigator, Vanessa E. Cisela.

The girl, who is now 11, went to live with her biological father in North Adams, Mass., after spending the summer with her mother in Woonsocket.

Her teacher called the Child Abuse Hotline in December 2004 to report that the girl said her mother and her boyfriend had sex in front of her.

The child told a Massachusetts social services investigator that her mother and Prata never touched her or tried to include her in the sex.

Woonsocket police arrested Prata and Arnold in February 2005. The couple is accused of ”providing an environment that is lewd and depraved in a manner that makes their home unfit for the child to live in,” according to court records.

Prata and Arnold are free on bail pending a March 19 pretrial conference in Family Court. They each face one to three years in prison or a maximum $1,000 fine, or both.

Their lawyers did not return phone calls from The Providence Journal.

Hopefully the FBI understands we are being ironic when we say "great parenting"

Mother kept three daughters isolated for seven years

Linz, Austria (dpa)- A 53-year-old woman from Linz in northern Austria kept her three daughters locked up in a house neglected and completely isolated from the outside world for seven years, the Austrian paper Osterreich reported Saturday.

According to the newspaper report, the woman succeeded in keeping the three girls in complete isolation from 1998 to 2005 when the authorities moved in and took them into care.

The girls, now aged, 14, 18 and 21 are still traumatized and are receiving psychological help, Austria radio reported Saturday.

According to the report, the girls' mother has been on remand, but was due to appear in court soon.

The custodian of two of the girls, Margreth Tews, appealed to the Austrian media on Saturday to allow the girls some privacy.

This was their last chance to lead a normal life, she told the Austrian press agency APA.

It was still not clear why it took social workers and the authorities so long to remove the girls from the house, which was in kept in a derelict state, the report said.

Mom Pleads Guilty in Baby-Swinging Case

ERIE, Pa. (AP) - A woman pleaded guilty Tuesday to swinging her 4-week-old son like a bat to hit her boyfriend during a fight, fracturing the infant's skull in the process.

Chytoria Graham, 27, pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and endangering the welfare of a child under a plea agreement with prosecutors.

By pleading guilty, Graham acknowledged that on Oct. 8 she grabbed her son Jarron by his feet and swung him, hitting her boyfriend and seriously injuring the child.

At Graham's preliminary hearing in December, paramedic Betty Schau, who treated the baby, recalled that Graham was crying and disheveled when medical crews arrived. She testified that Graham told her, ``I swung him. I swung him like a bat.''

The judge ordered a psychological examination for Graham before her sentencing, set for May 8. The aggravated assault charge carries a minimum of five years in prison because the child was under age 13. The maximum sentence is 20 years, prosecutor Beth Hirz said. The maximum sentence for endangering the welfare of a child is five years. Two lesser charges were dropped.

Graham's previous attorney had said Graham did not use her child as a weapon, that the boy was hurt during a fight between the two adults and that Graham lied to authorities about how the injury occurred to protect her boyfriend.

Her current attorney, public defender Julia Dudics, however, said Tuesday that the choice to plead guilty was Graham's. Dudics declined further comment except to say that Graham had told her she was depressed.

Jarron, who made a full recovery, and Graham's four other children are currently in the custody of her parents.

Four abandoned children rescued after one year in Berlin flat

Berlin - Police have rescued four abandoned children who spent one year struggling to run their Berlin household alone after their mother moved away to her lover.

The eldest, 12, phoned youth-aid officials in desperation, saying he was just too young to cook, clean the apartment and manage his siblings aged 11, 9 and 8, police said Friday.

The boy had hesitated to seek help because he was so embarrassed at the clutter and filth in their home.

The mother, 46, may face charges of failing to care for and control her children since last summer. The school-children, who said she had been living almost permanently at her lover's home, have been placed in foster care.

Shocked police found cobwebs on the furniture in the four-room apartment, a dish of rotting muck crawling with flies in the refrigerator, floors littered with crumbs and dirty clothing and a filth-smeared toilet.

One room was so full of litter that the door could barely be opened. Police said the children appeared to have stopped preparing meals in the kitchen months ago and there were spiders even among the dirty dishes.

The children had lived off fast food of low nutritional value bought with money given them by the mother.

Cool Mom Cages Son and Makes him Wear a Shock Collar

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) - When Jessica Botzko's son was a baby, authorities temporarily removed him from her care when she was charged with child endangering. Nearly a decade later, the boy took matters into his own hands, authorities said.

Botzko is again accused of child endangerment after her 10-year-old son ran away from home with his younger brother and told investigators he was tired of being put in a dog cage, police said. The older boy also had been forced to wear a remote-controlled shock collar, authorities said.

Botzko, 28, and John Westover, 37, appeared briefly in court Thursday on charges of child endangerment and making or selling drugs in front of the children.

At least once the 10-year-old boy was made to wear the collar - designed as a training device for animals - while inside the cage and was repeatedly shocked, court documents said. The cage, less than 2 feet tall and 2 feet wide, had a chain across the top with two locks on each end, said police Capt. Ray Carroll.

"He had to tuck his knees into his chest and he fell asleep in there on a couple occasions," Carroll said. "It wasn't continuous. It was probably on and off for punishment."

The older boy and his 5-year-old brother ran away from home Tuesday night when their father was away and their mother was dancing at a strip club, police said. They were found a few blocks away on a neighbor's porch.

Westover has an extensive record and was wanted on a child endangering charge in suburban Toledo, authorities said. The couple had a daughter who died of sudden infant death syndrome a few years ago, Carroll said. Police plan to take another look at her death.

Court hearings for both Botzko and Westover were continued because neither had a lawyer and they remained in jail. A message seeking comment left for them at the jail was not immediately returned.

Both told police they put the boy in the cage to punish him, Carroll said. The boy told officers that he also was caged when his father was using or making drugs, Carroll said.

Authorities said the boy weighed only 61 pounds, appeared thin for his age and told officers he had not eaten in two days.

It was not clear whether the younger boy had been put in the cage, Carroll said. Police plan to interview the boys again in the next few days. They were placed in the custody of Children Services.

Vegans Sentenced for Starving Their Baby

ATLANTA (AP) - A vegan couple were sentenced Wednesday to life in prison for the death of their malnourished 6-week-old baby boy, who was fed a diet largely consisting of soy milk and apple juice.
Superior Court Judge L.A. McConnell imposed the mandatory sentences on Jade Sanders, 27, and Lamont Thomas, 31. Their son, Crown Shakur, weighed just 3 1/2 pounds when he died of starvation on April 25, 2004.

The couple were found guilty May 2 of malice murder, felony murder, involuntary manslaughter and cruelty to children. A jury deliberated about seven hours before returning the guilty verdicts.

Defense lawyers said the first-time parents did the best they could while adhering to the lifestyle of vegans, who typically use no animal products. They said Sanders and Thomas did not realize the baby, who was born at home, was in danger until minutes before he died.

But prosecutors said the couple intentionally neglected their child and refused to take him to the doctor even as the baby's body wasted away.

"No matter how many times they want to say, 'We're vegans, we're vegetarians,' that's not the issue in this case," said prosecutor Chuck Boring. "The child died because he was not fed. Period."

Japan irked toddler put in baby drop box

--By HANS GREIMEL, Associated Press Writer
Wed May 16, 9:17 PM ET

TOKYO - Japan's first anonymous drop box for unwanted babies triggered a wave of anger and soul searching Wednesday after it was discovered that a preschooler — and not an infant — was left by his father on the service's first day.

Newspapers condemned the father and warned that the operation was open to abuse and could traumatize youngsters.

The drop-off for infants, known as "Stork's Cradle," was begun May 10 by the Roman Catholic-run Jikei Hospital in the southern city of Kumamoto to discourage abortions and the abandonment of children in unsafe public places. The same day, a boy now believed to be 3 was found inside.

The boy, who was in good health, reportedly said he was left by his father, who was seen holding the youngster's hand as they approached the hospital. They apparently rode Japan's bullet train to Kumamoto, but it was unclear where they lived.

"I came with Daddy," the boy was quoted as saying by the Mainichi newspaper. Local media reported the boy was able to identify himself by name, but it was unclear whether the father had been identified.

The revelation of the boy's age Tuesday triggered outrage among political leaders, with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe saying that "anonymously throwing out a child is unacceptable." He urged parents to consult social workers for help if raising children gets too tough.

The hospital has refused to comment on the case, citing privacy concerns, but said there were age limits on its drop-off service.

Police have decided no crime was committed because the child was left in a situation in which it was not exposed to immediate harm, Kyodo News reported Wednesday.

A small hatch in the side of the hospital allows anyone to anonymously put a baby into an incubator 24 hours a day. It was created after a series of high-profile cases in which newborns were abandoned in parks and supermarkets.

"We must rethink the meaning of the baby drop-off," the conservative Sankei newspaper said in an editorial. It called the boy's abandonment "unforgivable," saying that "unlike a baby, a toddler may suffer from trauma."

The Yomiuri newspaper said it was too early to judge the baby drop, but said it must be used for its original purpose of receiving newborns, not young children.

Parents Leave Toddler To Drown in Tub (thnx Mom) - 05/20/07 07:10 PM

A 22-month-old baby girl drowned -- but her sister survived -- after they were left alone last week in the bathtub of a Redford Township home, authorities said Saturday.

The apparent negligence that caused the death of Caylin McCreary prompted the state's child welfare agency to file a petition in Wayne County Family Court to terminate the parental rights of the mother, Cierra McCreary, to Caylin's twin.

McCreary, 20, of Redford Township and the baby's putative father, D'Andre Mays, 23, of Detroit appeared in the juvenile division of Family Court Saturday for a preliminary hearing and received a copy of the petition filed by the Child Protective Services unit of the Wayne County Department of Human Services.

The DHS placed Caylin's twin with the maternal grandmother, who brought the baby with her to the hearing Saturday in a courtroom at the Wayne County Juvenile Detention Facility.

The hearing will be continued on May 18.

The parents declined to comment Saturday, but the mother's court-assigned attorney Deborah Trent said, "This was a tragic accident and it can only be compounded by the petition for permanent custody."

According to the petition, Redford Township police were called to McCreary's home on Pembroke at about 10 p.m. Wednesday. Police and paramedics found the mother trying to resuscitate Caylin.

The baby was rushed to Botsford Hospital in Farmington Hills, where she was pronounced dead at 10:30 p.m.

An autopsy listed the cause of death as accidental drowning.

McCreary told police that one twin was in the bathtub full of water by herself and that Caylin was secured into a baby seat that was attached to the edge of the tub. She said she left the bathroom and went down the hall to her bedroom for a few minutes, then went back to check on the children again.

They were fine, McCreary said. But then she left to get a towel and was gone about "a minute." When she returned, Caylin was floating facedown in the water and her sister had climbed out of the tub, the mother told police.

Parents should never leave small children alone in the bathtub, said Dr. Marcus DeGraw, director of the child protection team at Detroit's St. John Hospital. "Even a couple of inches can be deadly," DeGraw said. "It doesn't have to be a full tub of water."

Police detectives involved could not be reached Saturday, but no criminal charges have been filed.

Mom blames Satan for burning baby in microwave

GALVESTON — A woman blames the devil and not her husband for severely burning their infant daughter after the 2-month-old was put in a microwave, a Houston television station reported.

Eva Marie Mauldin said Satan compelled her 19-year-old husband, Joshua Royce Mauldin, to microwave their daughter May 10 because the devil disapproved of Joshua's efforts to become a preacher.

"Satan saw my husband as a threat. Satan attacked him because he saw (Joshua) as a threat," Eva Mauldin told Houston television station KHOU-TV.

A Galveston County grand jury indicted Joshua Mauldin last week on child injury charges after hearing evidence that he placed his daughter in a motel microwave for 10 to 20 seconds.

The infant, Ana Marie, remains hospitalized. She suffered burns on the left side of her face and to her left hand, police said.

Eva Marie Mauldin, the girl's 20-year-old mother, told the television station that her husband is "not the monster people are making him out to be."

"That was not my husband; my husband is a wonderful father," she said. "Satan was working through his weaknesses."

Eva Maudlin described those weaknesses as an undisclosed mental disability, and that her efforts to get help for him have failed.

Pop Leaves Toddler in Car to Buy Porn

--KDKA

Pennsylvania- A Washington County man is facing charges after police say he left his toddler in a sweltering car while he went shopping for porn.

The 16-month-old boy was crying hysterically when another patron of Fritz The Cat Adult Theatre and Porn Shop spotted him around 6:15 p.m. Saturday and called police.

The store is located just across the state line in Ohio County, West Virginia.

The boy’s father, Richard Shultz, 23, of Houston, Washington County, was arrested.

Police say Shultz left the back windows up while the front windows were cracked just enough for a sheriff’s deputy to reach in and unlock the door.

It’s unclear how much time the child spent in the car. The deputy believes it was about 85 degrees outside at the time of the incident.

The toddler was rushed to the hospital and released into the custody of his mother.

Shultz was released from jail on bond and the condition that he stay away from his son.

He’s been charged with gross negligence and could spend up to five years in prison.

The National Traffic Safety Administration says about 25 kids die each year in the United States after being left behind or getting trapped in a hot vehicle.

Police Say Impaired Mom Let Son, 5, Drive
Boy Tells Police He Can't Reach Pedals

LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Police said an intoxicated mother faces charges after she let her 5-year-old son drive her around, reported WRTV-TV in Indianapolis.

Holly Schnobrich, 24, of Lafayette, was charged with two counts of felony neglect and public intoxication.

The boy and his 3-year-old brother, who was also in the vehicle, were placed into the custody of the Department of Child Services, police said.

Investigators said neither child was restrained.

The Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Department said they were called early Sunday morning after neighbors told them they saw the boy behind the wheel.

"It was just bizarre," Barrett told the Journal & Courier of Lafayette. "I asked, 'Is this toddler driving your car?' She said, 'He's a good driver.'"

Police said another neighbor took Schnobrich's car keys so that she couldn't get away before officers arrived.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Schnobrich admitted taking the prescription painkiller Percocet and had a near-empty bottle of sleeping pills that she told them she had for two days.

Officers said the child driver told them he couldn't reach the pedals.

Schnobrich was being held Thursday in the Tippecanoe County Jail on a $10,000 surety bond.

Prosecutors said Schnobrich pleaded guilty last week to an unrelated charge of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

Couple arrested in California after toddler ingests Ecstasy

The Associated Press

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif.—A nurse was charged with felony child abuse Thursday after her 2-year-old daughter ingested Ecstasy and went into a hallucinogenic fit, authorities said.
Shannon K. Leasure, 30, and her firefighter boyfriend, Mark A. Rumble, 46, were each being held on $500,000 bail. The two were arrested Tuesday night while vacationing with her toddler at Lake Arrowhead from Reno, Nev.

It was unclear whether Leasure, who was scheduled to be arraigned Friday in San Bernardino Superior Court, had retained an attorney. She faces up to six years in prison if convicted of the charge.

The toddler remained hospitalized at Loma Linda University Medical Center. Officials declined to release her condition because of patient privacy laws, but her father, Adrian Leasure, told the Reno Gazette-Journal she is in good condition.

The father, also a firefighter, said there was no indication the girl would suffer permanent damage.

"It just breaks my heart," he said.

Shannon Leasure allegedly brought Ecstasy along on her vacation, sheriff's Sgt. Rick Ells said. It wasn't clear where the Ecstasy was stored, how the girl obtained it or how much she swallowed, he said.

After ingesting the drug, the girl suffered hallucinations and seizures, authorities said. Firefighters were called to the vacation home and the girl was taken to the hospital.

Detectives have referred her case to the county's child protective services department, said sheriff's spokeswoman Jodi Miller.

Ecstasy is a mildly psychedelic derivative of amphetamine. Ingestion of the drug can cause increased body temperature, seizures from increased central nervous system activity and muscle damage when a lack of fluids causes muscles to break down, San Bernardino County Health Officer Margaret M. Beed said.

In extreme cases, Ecstasy use can lead to kidney failure and cardiac arrhythmia, Beed said.

Woman accused of trying to flush newborn
By Andale Gross
The Associated Press
Published Wednesday, August 29, 2007
KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Kansas City police are investigating a 20-year-old woman who allegedly tried to flush her newborn son down the toilet at a McDonald's restaurant after giving birth in the restroom.

Both the baby and the mother, a Kansas City resident who works at the McDonald's, were being treated Tuesday at a Kansas City hospital. Police said the child is expected to survive.

"Fortunately, the baby's fine," Capt. Rich Lockhart said. "The baby's at the hospital getting treatment. The mother's at the hospital getting treatment. We're investigating it."

The incident occurred at about 12:50 p.m. Monday. Lockhart said workers became concerned after the woman didn't return from the restroom. The workers quickly called paramedics after checking on the woman, and paramedics were able to revive the baby.

No charges had been filed as of Tuesday afternoon. Lockhart said police have interviewed workers at the McDonald's and planned to talk to the mother once she is able to speak to them.

"She's being treated, and we haven't been able to talk to her to get her side of all of this," Lockhart said.

Police then will consult with prosecutors to determine what, if any, charges will be filed.

Lockhart said the woman was 32 weeks pregnant when she gave birth in the restroom. She allegedly told paramedics she tried to flush the baby down the toilet several times, he said.

The child was still in the toilet and wasn't breathing when paramedics arrived, Lockhart said. They administered CPR on the child to get him breathing again, he said.

The paramedics then rushed the baby and mother to the hospital. Police were notified at about 2:30 p.m. Monday, Lockhart said.

"The mother told paramedics that she didn't know she was pregnant," he said.

The newborn has been placed in the temporary custody of children's services, Lockhart said. It wasn't clear whether the woman has other children, he said.

John Jelinek, who owns and operates the McDonald's restaurant, said he was "truly shocked by the unfortunate incident."

"The safety and well-being of my customers and employees is always my top priority," Jelinek said in a written statement Tuesday afternoon. "As this is a pending police matter, it would be inappropriate to discuss further."

Flight from hell: Mom accused of boozing, beating kids

From ROCKY MOUNTAIN NEWS:

Two little kids were screaming and crawling on the floor of Frontier Airlines Flight 108, but passengers said it was their mom who was out of control on the hellish trip to Denver.

Tamera Jo Freeman is accused of boozing, cursing and beating her children, ages 2 and 4, and hurling a drink at a flight attendant who tried to intervene on a flight from San Francisco to Denver.

The 38-year-old San Francisco woman was arrested Monday after the jetliner landed at Denver International Airport. She’s sitting in Jefferson County jail, charged with assaulting her children and interfering with a flight crew, according to federal court documents.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Boyd Boland ordered Freeman jailed until Friday, when she has a preliminary and detention hearing.

Passengers told the FBI that Freeman was drinking heavily before and during the flight and alternated between cursing and terrorizing or neglecting her 2-year-old son and 4-year-old daughter because they were interfering with her watching a movie.

"Freeman appeared intoxicated and violent toward her children before she boarded the flight in San Francisco," according to an FBI statement supporting the criminal complaint.

Passengers said the children spent the nearly two-hour ordeal trying to hide on the floor in the corner, scared and crying, according to an FBI complaint.

The mom "just started going ballistic" when the toddler clad in a T-shirt and diaper knocked over her drink, passenger Carrie Storin told CBS4 News.

The woman said "you shut up, you idiot. Get in the corner," Storin recounted. "I heard slapping noises. It was bad. I felt so sick, I wanted to cry," Storin told CBS 4 News.

"So, I can’t imagine what those kids felt like," said Storin, who was sitting across the aisle from the woman and her children.

The mother admitted to the FBI she "lost it" on the plane, saying "she had slapped her children during the flight because they were fighting over the window shade and had spilled Freeman’s drink," according to the FBI complaint. She also acknowledged drinking "several alcoholic beverages on the flight."

Before boarding the flight at San Francisco airport, Freeman dropped the 2-year-old on his back and head on the ground because he didn’t want to go to the bathroom with her, passenger Katie Shanahan told the FBI.

"Freeman left her son on the ground crying for several minutes," Shanahan recounted, according to court records.

On the flight, the mom drank and watched the movie, ignoring the toddler who climbed under the seat, "squeezing toothpaste out," Storin said. "It was a total mess. There was juice everywhere and napkins everywhere.

"The little girl ... was pressed up against the window, like just hugging her knees, screaming," Storin said.

Passenger Amy Grant "observed Freeman hitting her children repeatedly and yelling profanities at her children and the flight attendants," according to the complaint. "She observed Freeman swing with an opened hand down at the children and hear the children crying after being struck."

Several passengers complained to the flight crew about the mother’s repeated slapping and punching of the children during the flight, court records stated.

When flight attendant Amy Fleming tried to intervene, Freeman told her to "mind her own business" and demanded another round, court records stated.

When Fleming refused to serve Freeman, the mother cursed the flight attendant and allegedly threw a drink that landed at Fleming’s feet, witnesses told the FBI.

Freeman then followed Fleming into the common area of the plane, "yelling and pointing her finger."

Fleming felt so threatened she told the FBI she "moved into a defensive stance."

She then talked Freeman into returning to her seat.

The flight attendant asked a corrections officer who happened to be on the plane to sit near Freeman, the complaint stated. Then the attendant grabbed some duct tape and "had to physically stand near Freeman to prevent her from causing more problems on the flight or further assaulting her children," the FBI wrote.

After the flight attendant took action, the captain radioed ahead to have Denver police meet the plane.

"I think they did the best they could," Storin said. "I just wish they would have done something sooner, because it was pretty bad."

During a Wednesday hearing, Freeman requested a public defender and the judge agreed to appoint one.

Her children were placed in the custody of the Denver social services agency until a relative flies from San Francisco to take them home, according to CBS4 News.

Toddler, 2, left in car at brothel parking lot

A 2-year-old girl was left in a car in 95 degree heat for two hours at a brothel parking lot on Saturday, Storey County Sheriff’s deputies said.

Deputies arrested the girl’s father, Lucien Hoffman of Bend, Ore., on charges of child neglect. Hoffman told deputies he was attending a function at the Mustang Ranch brothel.

The brothel’s security guard found the child crying inside the car and took her indoors until authorities arrived, according to the crime report. They told deputies they were unable to find the girl’s parent or guardian.

The toddler was treated for dehydration and released to the Nevada Division of Child and Family Services, deputies said.

They said Hoffman, who is unmarried, shares joint custody of the child with her mother, who lives in Bend. Deputies said they believe the child was left in the vehicle for at least two hours in 95-degree heat.

Hoffman was being held at the Storey County Jail Sunday in lieu of $40,000 bail.

ONTARIO, Calif. — An 8-month-old boy has died after his mother told police she accidentally cleaned his nose with a cotton swab used earlier to clean a methamphetamine pipe.

Samuel Reta of Ontario was declared dead Friday at Loma Linda University Medical Center, according to the San Bernardino County Coroner's office.

Reta had been in a coma since police responding to a child-not-breathing emergency call early Thursday found him in full cardiac arrest. The baby also has a fractured skull, broken arm and pneumonia, police said.

Elizabeth Reta, 27, was arrested Thursday and booked for investigation of felony child abuse.

Her boyfriend Juan Antonio Sanchez Jr., who surrendered to police later that night, was also arrested on suspicion of abusing the child, officials said.

It was not immediately known if Reta and Sanchez faced additional charges now that they boy had died, police Sgt. Joseph Giallo said Monday.

Reta had told police she gave the baby a bath, and then used the cotton swab to clean his nose because it was itching, police said. She said she didn't know the swab had been used to clean a methamphetamine pipe.

It wasn't clear when the baby suffered the broken bones. Police said some of the injuries may be the result of Sanchez's attempt to rouse the baby from his seizure.

R.I. man charged with ransoming mother’s cat for $20,000

NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. - North Kingstown police accuse a man of extorting more than $20 thousand from his elderly mother by repeatedly threatening to kidnap her cat and demanding ransom.

Garry Lamar was arrested last week and released on $200 bail. He’s been ordered to stay away from his 78-year-old mother, Mary Lamar Grancher.

Police say he started threatening to kidnap his mother’s beloved pet just over a year ago, when she kicked him out of her home.

According to authorities, Lamar allegedly kidnapped the cat once during the past year and made kidnapping threats on a near weekly basis. Police don’t believe the cat was harmed, but they’re still investigating.

Police say Grancher made at least two dozen payments.

A phone listing for Lamar couldn’t be located.

Mom allegedly drives son to gang fight

VICTORVILLE, Calif. - A mother was arrested after she allegedly drove her son to a school to fight with members of a rival gang. Sophia Elam, 41, drove her 16-year-old son and several adults to Silverado High School to fight with gang members who had been threatening her son in an ongoing dispute.

"(Elam) says she's going to make sure her son gets to class safely, but instead of doing it the right way, she took matters into her own hands," San Bernardino County sheriff's Deputy Heather Vallejos said.

Elam was arrested Thursday for investigation of child endangerment.

Five adults and one juvenile were also arrested when detectives searched Elam's house and the home of a rival gang member.

Detectives allegedly found a gun at Elam's house.

Police: Irate Woman Throws Baby At Trooper

NORTH EAST, Md. -- A Maryland mother was arraigned on drug and child abuse charges after police said she threw her 6-month-old child across a room at a police officer.

According to court documents, the incident happened in late July at a home on Inverness Drive in Cecil County.

According to court documents, state troopers were called to a trailer on Inverness Drive to check on the well-being of Evelyn Doninger, 23, of North East, and her two small children.

Officers said that they smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the home, so they told Doninger they would be coming in. The court documents said that Doninger told police they had no right to enter her home.

Police said that they noticed a hand -rolled cigarette and a bag with what they believed was marijuana in it, as well as various drug paraphernalia. They also said they found two men inside the home and two children -- a 2-year-old and a 6-month-old.

Police said they told Doninger she was being arrested. The documents said she became "incredibly irate," stood up from a chair and threw the 6-month-old at least 5 feet at one of the troopers.

The child struck the trooper's chest and he caught the baby just before it hit the floor, according to court documents. Doninger then shoved the trooper, striking both him and the baby.

Neighbors who spoke with WBAL TV 11 News said that the allegations are shocking, but most turned away when 11 News asked them about it for fear of retaliation from drug dealers who the neighbors said have a strong presence in the area, according to 11 News reporter Lowell Melser.

A woman who neighbors said was Doninger's mother -- but would not identify herself to Melser -- said that there was some validity to the story, but would not give details.

Police said that the 6-month-old baby is doing fine.

Doninger has since been released from jail. She is facing eight different child abuse and drug charges.

A trial date has not been set.

Well... while I could never ethically condone falsifying a report to, say, the Arcade owner's insurance company, it's certainly not the most reprehensible thing I've ever come across. And since that purse is now buried somewhere under the boardwalk, and since the thief would be a fool to pawn items in that township, the chances of anyone catching the crook, and thus catching on th the girl's "exaggeration," are slim.

ENCINO, N.M. — The body of a 15-month-old boy was found in a field Wednesday, a day after his mother told authorities that she lost him when she fell asleep stargazing.

Search and rescue crews found the body of Richy Willis-Brown near a highway junction in Torrance County in central New Mexico, according to state police Lt. Rick Anglada.

Anglada said an autopsy will be done to determine the cause of death.

"Right now we don't know if the child died of exposure or any other trauma," he said.

Deputies said the boy and his mother had been seen along U.S. 60 before dawn Tuesday. The woman, wearing no clothes, showed up a few hours later in Encino and told authorities her baby was missing.

The woman told investigators she was driving through the area when she decided to stop, take off her clothes and star gaze. She said she fell asleep and when she woke up, her son was gone.

The boy's mother was in an Albuquerque hospital Wednesday. Authorities were considering filing charges against the woman, whose name has not been released.

Mother poisons daughter to pin murder on her.

Quote:

Stacey Castor, 40, gave her 20-year-old daughter a tainted drink the night of Sept. 13, then typed a note to make the poisoning look like a suicide, District Attorney William Fitzpatrick said. The note included a purported confession by the daughter to the murders of the two men.

Fitzpatrick said the daughter, Ashley Wallace, has cooperated with his office and denied having any connection with the men's poisoning deaths.

Castor, of the Syracuse suburb of Liverpool, was charged earlier with murder in the August 2005 death of David Castor, 48. Police said he was poisoned with ethylene glycol, a toxic chemical found in antifreeze.

After David Castor's death, the body of Stacey Castor's first husband was exhumed. Michael Wallace, 38, was initially thought to have died of natural causes in 2000, but his death was recently ruled a homicide caused by ingesting ethylene glycol, and Stacey Castor has been named a suspect.

She has been held without bail since her arrest Sept. 14. She was arraigned Thursday on a charge of second-degree attempted murder.

Stacey Castor's attorney Charles Keller has previously said in court that his client's defense would be that Ashley Wallace killed her father and stepfather. Keller was in court Thursday and not available to comment about the new charge.

Ashley Wallace told The Syracuse Post-Standard that her mother gave her a mixed drink with vodka, orange juice and Sprite and kept urging her to finish the drink. Wallace was hospitalized for a few days but has recovered.

Detectives said the drink apparently was spiked with two prescription drugs: Ambien, which treats insomnia, and Ritalin, used to treat attention deficit disorder and narcolepsy.

Prosecutor Christine Garvey said preliminary tests at the hospital revealed traces of opiates codeine, morphine and hydrocodone in Ashley Wallace's system.

That's the thing about poisoners. They get away with the first one, so they try another, never realizing that, eventually, somebody will notice the bodies piling up.

Here's a real winner... From RENO GAZETTE-JOURNAL:

Mom sentenced for using girl to solicit men

A woman who pandered her 12-year-old daughter to men in downtown Reno to raise drug money was sentenced to eight years in prison on Thursday.

Elizabeth Bogard's actions, which also included having the girl live with her in a convicted sex offender's motel room, were condemned by Washoe District Judge Connie Steinheimer.

"That's all there is to it ... zero tolerance," Steinheimer told Bogard, 49, whom she sentenced on two counts of child endangerment.

Bogard said endangering her daughter in those situations were the "stupidest things" she's done in her life. She also has a grown son.

"My actions hurt someone I care about deeply," she said. "She didn't deserve that ... I wish I could say it never happened, but it did.

"I want my clean and sober life back."

Her daughter is in a juvenile residential treatment facility in Reno that helps children with emotional and substance abuse problems, court officials said.

Bogard will be eligible for parole in two years. She was facing a maximum of 12 years in prison.

Deputy District Attorney Kelly Partin said the emotional toll from the girl's experience will never be known and was "unimaginable."

Bogard pleaded guilty to coaching her daughter on how to solicit men for sex. The girl would then get inside a man's vehicle, and once money was exchanged, she would run out. Other times, the girl would lead the men to their motel room where Bogard would have sex with them for money. The girl said she never had to perform any sex acts with the men but was aware her mother was doing it. The pandering, Bogard told police, earned about $160, which she used to buy drugs.

James Leslie, Bogard's public defender, asked Steinheimer for probation. He said she has done well in substance abuse programs and loves her daughter.

"Triggers in her life cause bad judgment," he said. "She has expressed horror about what she did and is in disbelief that she found herself capable of that. She was strung out on drugs."

Bogard was arrested in May on charges of pandering and child endangerment stemming from the arrest of a sex offender with whom she and her daughter were staying. Officers found drug paraphernalia in the room, and the man admitted he had been smoking crack.

Yeah, I think this little girl will be changing her name from Bogard to Long in about six years.

Pa. mom charged with buying son guns

A Pennsylvania mom was charged today with buying her 14-year-old son three guns that he allegedly planned to use in a Columbine-style attack on a local high school.

Michele Cossey, 46, of Plymouth Meeting, Pa., bought her son a .22-caliber handgun, a .22-caliber rifle and a 9 mm semiautomatic rifle, authorities said.

"This is not the best parenting I've ever seen and she needs to be held accountable," Montgomery County District Attorney Bruce Castor said.

Cossey's son is accused of trying to recruit another teen for a possible attack on Plymouth Whitemarsh High School. Investigators said the boy was homeschooled and had never attended the high school, but he apparently felt he had been bullied by his peers.

Acting on a tip from a high school student, police found the rifle, about 30 air-powered guns, swords, knives, a bomb-making book, videos of the 1999 Columbine school massacre in Colorado and violence-filled notebooks in the boy's bedroom, Castor said.

He was arrested Wednesday, the same day a 14-year-old Cleveland boy went on a shooting spree at his high school, wounding four people before killing himself.

The Pennsylvania boy, whose name was withheld because of his age, had a brief appearance in court today, where he was ordered to remain in custody while he undergoes psychiatric evaluations.

His mom was charged with unlawful transfer of a firearm, possession of a firearm by a minor, corruption of a minor, endangering the welfare of a child and two counts of reckless endangerment.

Castor said investigators do not believe she was helping her son plot to attack the school, "but by virtue of her indulgence, she enabled him to get in this position."

Boy Calls Police to Report Mother for Drunken Driving

VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) -- The calls kept coming in to 911 -- from an 8-year-old boy who was riding in a car with his mother. He told operators that she wasn't "acting normal."

His mother was eventually arrested for investigation of drunken driving.

Authorities in Vancouver, Washington, say deputies caught up with Paulette Spears less than a minute after she pulled up to a fire station on Saturday to say she had a medical problem. They'd been tracking her down using the boy's cell phone calls, and his description of what he could see from the car.

At one point during the drive, police say she had taken the cell phone from the boy, told the dispatcher not to worry, and hung up. The boy called back, and again his mother cut the call off.

The boy and a 5-year-old child who was also in the car have been placed with an aunt.

Helping son's parties no laughing matter

LAKE ELSINORE, Calif. - The mother of a 13-year-old boy has been arrested for supplying nitrous oxide, or laughing gas, used during her son's ditch parties at their Lake Elsinore home.

Maria Antonia Mendez was arrested for providing the gas used by the teens to get high. Riverside County sheriff's Sgt. Evan Petersen says the teens skipped school and hung out at the home.

Police began investigating the case after a school officer noticed repeated absences of a group of students. Canisters of nitrous oxide were found by deputies serving a search warrant Monday evening.

Investigators say the teenagers filled balloons with the gas and inhaled it.

The sergeant says the 28-year-old mother also participated in the nitrous parties. She was booked for investigation of multiple counts of child endangerment and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Mother Lets Daughter Spend Weekends with Urine Drinking Nudist

Doesn't even know where he LIVES!!!

NIWOT, Colo. -- A 47-year-old nudist from Niwot accused of sexually assaulting an 8-year-old girl and drinking her urine denied the charges in court Friday morning.

Joseph S. Cardillo pleaded not guilty to charges of sex assault on a child by a person in position of trust and a pattern of assaulting the girl, according to our partners at the Boulder Daily Camera.

Cardillo met the girl's mother at a local chapter of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness and they became friends, she told police.

She said she met Cardillo in public places every weekend for the past year so he could take her daughter to his home for sleepovers. It was unclear why she did that.

Even though her daughter has been going to the man's house since June 2006, the mother said she did not know where Cardillo lives and has never been to his home. He lives in a basement in Niwot, Colo., with another family living above him.

The alleged abuse came to light after the Boulder County Department of Social Services began investigating reports about the girl looking "dirty and hungry" all the time. The girl told caseworkers about her alleged relationship with Cardillo, according to an arrest affidavit obtained by 7NEWS.

The girl told deputies she spent weekends with the man, identified as Jamuna, and slept with him in his bedroom, sometimes naked. He was taking baths with her, shared the hot tub with her naked, fondled her chest and genital area, and "tickled" her everywhere, she said.

"Jamuna also massages her with his hands and drinks her urine, as he catches it with his hands while she is using the restroom," the affidavit said.

The girl said he stands in front of her while she pees and "drinks it until there is no more urine coming out" of her.

The girl told a social service caseworker that she wasn't supposed to talk about this because it was a secret.

The girl also told authorities that Cardillo used a sex toy on her.

The girl's mother defended Cardillo and said she considers him family. She and Cardillo are both nudists and she "is comfortable with her daughter being nude as long as everyone is comfortable," the woman told detectives.

The woman said she thinks the peeing incidents are "weird" but that it was not hurting anyone and she knows other people who drink urine.

Staff at the Blue Sky Bridge child advocacy center, where the girl was being cared for, said the girl's mother "was having difficulty understanding the seriousness of the allegations as well as the suspect's culpability.

Cardillo is free on a $100,000 bond. His trial is set for June 2. If convicted, Cardillo faces a possible life sentence in prison.

A Google search shows a cached Web page for "Sacred Sex In Colorado" with the name Joseph Cardillo of Niwot. The page links to another page offering "Kama Sutra Treatments."

Top US psychologist: 'Spears will be dead in six months'

A top US psychologist has declared Britney Spears will be dead in six months if she doesn't get the treatment she needs for a chronic mood disorder cyclothymia.

Dr. Lillian Glass has gone public with her diagnosis in the hope Spears will read her warning comments and seek medical aid.

The renowned Beverly Hills doctor tells America's Globe: "Unless Britney is locked away or put into a treatment program, she is going to die in six months - or even sooner.

In my opinion, she suffers from cyclothymia, a chronic mood disorder in which short periods of mild depression are followed by short periods of hypomania.

That explains why one minute she can appear perfectly sane and the next she's exhibiting totally crazy behaviour."

Dr. Glass tells the publication: "She's definitely a candidate for suicide if she isn't treated immediately."

The diagnosis goes some way to explain why Spears suffered an apparent meltdown at her home on January 4, when she locked herself and her baby son in a bathroom at the end of a visitation term and refused to come out for three hours.

The pop star was committed to hospital for a psychological evaluation after the stand-off with police and paramedics.

Spears' erratic behaviour continued this week when she fled a Los Angeles courthouse after refusing to testify in a crucial custody hearing.

As a result, she lost visitation rights to her two young sons until the next hearing on February 19.

Maine Woman Victimized in Forced Abortion Case Gets Prostitution Trial

Portland, ME (LifeNews.com) -- The woman who was victimized in an attempted forced abortion last year is going to trial on charges that she has engaged in prostitution and failed to appear in court. Katelyn Kampf, the 20-year-old woman whose parents tried to force her to New York City was charged not long after the forced abortion case concluded.

Just days after she appeared on a national television program to tell her side of the story, Kampf was arrested on outstanding prostitution charges.

Kampf was arrested on several warrants after she failed to appear in court for a summons issued in October.

According to an AP report, the warrant came after police conducted a sting operation at a local hotel in Portland, Maine. Kampf had placed an ad on a popular Internet advertising web site offering sex for money.

Kampf's attorney entered a not-guilty plea for her on Monday in Portland District Court and requested a jury trial for his client.

Police say Kampf was slated to appear in court on December 4 on the prostitution charge, but made an appearance a week later on ABC's "Good Morning America" instead to talk about how her parents tried to make her have an abortion.

As LifeNews.com has reported, Kampf's parents Nicholas and Lola acknowledged their guilt to lesser charges but escaped jail time on the more serious violations.

Under the agreement, the Kampfs pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault and disorderly conduct charges and had felony kidnapping charges dismissed.

As long as the Kampfs follow the court's request to receive proper counseling the assault charges will be dismissed as well.

The Kampfs tied Katelyn's hands and feet at gunpoint and put her in the back of their car. She was able to flee after using the restroom and grabbed her parents' cell phone to alert police.

Katelyn told ABC News interviewer Chris Cuomo on the recent television program that events unfolded because her boyfriend Reme, a black man from South Africa, was the father of the child. She accused the Kampfs of racism.

That's why she waited until she was six months into the pregnancy to inform her parents.

"They were a little bit racist, to be honest," she said.

Kampf told ABC News about the kidnapping and the attempt to force her to have an abortion.

"I tried to leave the house and that's pretty much where the physical part started, and they tried to pull me back into the house and keep me from leaving," she explained. "My dad restrained me on the floor and my mom walked in from the kitchen holding a rope."

Mom goes on trial in baby's microwave death

DAYTON, Ohio (AP) -- Jury selection began Monday in the trial of a woman accused of killing her 1-month-old daughter by burning the child in a microwave oven.

If convicted of aggravated murder, China Arnold, 27, could face the death penalty.

Investigators believe Arnold killed 1-month-old Paris Talley by putting her in a microwave at her home. Arnold's attorneys argue she had nothing to do with the baby's death in 2005.

Coroner's officials have said the baby suffered high-heat internal injuries and had no external burns. They have ruled out scalding water, open flame or other possible causes of death that could have damaged the skin.

Defense attorney Jon Paul Rion has said Arnold had nothing to do with her daughter's death and was stunned when investigators told her that a microwave might have been involved. Arnold took the baby to the hospital after finding her unconscious and does not know how she died, Rion said.

During a pretrial hearing in July, police Detective Michael Galbraith said Arnold told him she arrived home in the early morning hours after drinking, fell asleep and was awakened at 2:30 a.m. by the baby's crying.

She said she warmed a bottle in the microwave oven, tried to give it to the baby, changed the child's diaper and then fell asleep on the couch with the baby on her chest.

Arnold said she and her children were the only ones in the apartment until her boyfriend arrived several hours later and noticed something was wrong with the baby.

Galbraith said Arnold told him: "If I hadn't gotten so drunk, I guess my baby wouldn't have died."

When cross-examined by Rion, Galbraith acknowledged that Arnold told him she did not know how the baby suffered the burns and that she had nothing to do with it that she could recall.

Earlier this month, defense witness Robert Belloto, a staff pharmacist at Good Samaritan Hospital, testified he does not believe it would have been possible for Arnold to place the baby in the microwave because the woman was so intoxicated.

Belloto said Arnold told him she had consumed about 40 percent of a pint of high-proof rum in 90 minutes. But he acknowledged that he had no other corroboration for her claim.

Pflugerville mom, son arrested in bank robbery

A Pflugerville woman and her 16-year-old son were arrested Wednesday and charged with robbery, after several citizens tipped off police following a bank hold-up on Interstate 35.

The Bank of America in Round Rock was robbed for the second time this year Wednesday afternoon. According to Round Rock police, a small male wearing a bandana over his face used a handgun in the heist.

The same bank was robbed January 10.

Citizens who noticed suspicious activity nearby tipped off police, who followed two people to a home in Pflugerville.

Police say they collected evidence that linked them to the crime, and Diedre Lynn Blackburn, 45, later confessed. Her 16-year-old son was also taken into custody.

Police say the pair is also suspected in several other area bank robberies and their investigation continues.

Love triangle dad wants to put things right

A middle-aged dad at the centre of a bizarre love triangle which landed him in court says he wants to rebuild his relationship with the son he tried to run over.

Tauranga man James Bowring was found guilty two weeks ago of recklessly operating a motor vehicle, assault with a blunt instrument, and driving while disqualified, after veering off a road, mounting a grass verge and forcing 18-year-old Jacob Bowring to take cover behind a lamppost.

The court heard Bowring senior had done a u-turn after he dropped off a 14-year-old girl and had driven back towards his son at 40-50 kmh.

He admitted mounting the kerb and aiming the vehicle at Jacob, claiming he was "pretty upset" being calling a "paedophile" and being told he belonged in a "mental home".

But last night, the 45-year-old beneficiary - who is bipolar - spoke for the first time about the events that led to his conviction and revealed he wanted to heal the wounds with Jacob.

The feud between father and son erupted when James started seeing Jacob's girlfriend of two years, Krystal Clark, 18.

The odd couple, who live in Bowring senior's house-bus on family land at Te Puna, were now expecting a baby and said they planned to marry.

But James was desperate for a reconciliation with his boy.

"I love him and miss him. I wish we could all just get on," he told Sunday News.

"But up until now Jacob has said he will only visit me if Krystal is not here but that's not okay with me.

"Krystal is the best thing that has ever happened to me. We're in love, it's as simple as that, and it's awesome."

James - who claimed to have fathered at least five children - was to return to the Tauranga District Court for sentencing on February 26. He said he lived in fear of going to jail.

He had been to prison for various offences and talked of a "life of misery" featuring sexual abuse as a child, broken relationships, work as a male prostitute and a six-month sexual relationship with a younger sibling.

"I can't cope with the thought of going to prison again, I don't like being around people. If I end up there I will probably kill myself," James said.

"I need to be at home with my girl and our new baby."

He said he took medication to regulate his depression and bipolar disorder.

James admitted he had "a few other kids around the country ... but I never stayed with the mothers, I was only really a sperm donor. I was spreading the love around."

He said marriage was now on the cards with Krystal, who was 14 weeks pregnant, and the pair wanted to have "as many kids as we can afford to care for.

"There is nothing wrong with us. We are both legal age, it is just one of those things these days. There is nothing untoward about it," he added.

"When you fall in love with someone, all the rest of the hang-ups just seem to go away."

The couple spent their days watching TV and DVDs on the house-bus, which had a long-drop toilet outside their bedroom window.

Krystal said her relationship with Bowring was "long-term" and her sex life could not be better.

"Younger men are immature and all about 'gimme, gimme, gimme', but with older lovers it is about sharing and they are happy to give and receive," she told Sunday News.

"James and I are so stable in our relationship and even when we have rows, we just talk things through."

She also hoped James and Jacob could build bridges.

"Jacob does have his good points. He can be caring and can use his head sometimes to be really helpful," she said.

But for now, Jacob did not want to have anything to do with his dad or his former girlfriend.

"I don't care. The worst thing about it all is that now he can't fix my cars," Jacob told Sunday News.

"I don't want anything to do with him."

Jacob, a tyre-fitter, said he was unable to talk in detail because of a deal he had with a women's magazine.

"I've sold my story to get me into a flat, so that's good. The whole thing is a mess. My dad has gone nuts."

Mother drinks while child drowns

An Anaheim woman was charged with murder Wednesday in the drowning death of her 13-month-old son after toxicology tests confirmed she had been drunk at the time.

Paige Elizabeth Looney also was charged with two counts of child abuse and endangerment with a sentencing enhancement for death due to child neglect. She faces a maximum sentence of 25 years to life if convicted.

Orange County Deputy Dist. Atty. Howard Gundy declined to disclose her blood-alcohol level, saying only that the toxicology report "wasn't good."

Gundy said the murder charge stemmed from "implied malice" on Looney's part. She had a "conscious disregard" for Eric, the toddler who drowned Feb. 21, and his 4-year-old brother, Tanner, the prosecutor said.

"She showed extreme indifference for the health and welfare of those children," Gundy said.

Looney, 34, was in court Wednesday to be arraigned on the charges, but the hearing was postponed until March 14 so she could be assigned a court-appointed lawyer. She is being held on $1-million bond.

During the hearing, the public defender who appeared for Looney's initial appearance, Donald T. Barkemeyer, asked the court for a bail review hearing and for a gag order, arguing that Anaheim police should not be allowed to provide information about the case to the public before discussing it with the defense.

Judge Roger Robbins agreed to a bail review but denied a gag order, saying he had no jurisdiction because Anaheim police were not present in court.

Looney's cousin and two aunts declined to comment as they left the Fullerton courthouse.

Eric was the youngest of four children born to Looney by two men who are brothers. Mark Looney is the father of a 12-year-old daughter. Steve Looney is now married to Paige Looney and is the father of Eric, Tanner and another son who died in 2005 at age 2.

Eric drowned Feb. 21 in the family's unfenced backyard pool in Anaheim. His sister called 911 when she arrived home from school.

When police arrived, Paige Looney had pulled her son from the water and was attempting mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, according to police. The boy's father, who lives at the residence part time, was not home when the drowning occurred, police said.

Looney showed signs of intoxication and empty beer cans were found about the house and backyard, according to police. It was unclear how the boy had gotten into the pool, which did not have a fence or barricade surrounding it. Under state law, new pools are required to be fenced.

Police are investigating whether the pool was "grandfathered" in before the law went into effect. They also are reviewing the 2005 death of her 2-year-old son. The cause of death was listed as undetermined, police said, but was linked to a preexisting heart condition.

According to police, the family on the fathers' side repeatedly complained to Orange County Child Protective Services about the way Looney treated her children. Terry Fisher, a spokeswoman for the agency, maintained Wednesday that state confidentiality laws prevented her from confirming or denying abuse reports.

Reached by telephone after Wednesday's hearing, Eric's paternal grandmother said her son and other relatives on her side of the family would not be commenting on the case until Looney was arraigned on the charges.

The Looney children are in protective custody.

what is with the drowning lately

Indianapolis police say a mother of five was watching “American Idol” while her 3-year-old girl nearly drowned in a bathtub last week.

Sheila R. Brooks, 25, has not been charged in connection with the near drowning of Sirius Brooks on Thursday at a home in the 9300 block of East 42nd Street.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CLICK HERE for real-time police runs in the Indianapolis-metro area.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sirius was in critical condition Friday at Methodist Hospital. She remained at Methodist on Monday, but hospital spokesman Gene Ford said he is not releasing any information at the family’s request.

Brooks left Sirius and her 1-year-old sister, Sereena, in the tub with about 9 inches of water and went into another room to get clothes, according to a police report made public Monday.

Brooks was in her bedroom when her oldest daughters, Daesheana Twyman, 7, and Dasianaye Twyman, 5, entered the room, police said.

“Daesheana stated that they were … watching ‘American Idol’ on TV … and her mother suddenly stated that she forgot and left the two youngest children in the tub,” Officer Gustavia Dodson wrote in the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department report.

Brooks told Daesheana to take the children out of the tub, police said. Daesheana found Sirius submerged and called for her mother.

Brooks performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation while her brother, Darnell Wilson, 38, called 911, police said.
Police found about an ounce of marijuana, five burnt marijuana cigarettes and a scale in the house, according to the report.

Daesheana, Dasianaye, Sereena and a 4-year-old girl not named in the report were placed in protective custody, police said.

Mother Pressure-Washes Kid

ORLANDO, Fla. -- A mother who was videotaped while spraying her 2 1/2-year-old daughter with a high-pressure water hose at an Orlando car wash told authorities she did it because the child was throwing a tantrum.

She told authorities she did not have the hose on full blast, and she said that it isn't as bad as it looks.

The mother said she had used this type of punishment before with a spray bottle.

The mother saw herself on TV late Thursday afternoon and called deputies. She called deputies and said they could come to her apartment to speak with her and see her daughter.

Marlene Diaz, a manager at Magical Car Wash, said she has never seen this type of abuse before.

"You don't do that to a kid," Diaz said. "No child deserves that."

The video showed the child trying to hide her face while the woman pinned her to a wall and sprayed her at close range.

"Disgusted," Diaz said. "I'm mad, infuriated as to how someone could do that to a little child."

Officials said the water shoots out of the hoses with a force of about 1,200 pounds per square inch, powerful enough to create the type of friction and sting from a rug burn.

"Your skin gets red, and at times it could peel," Diaz said.

"That's a pressure washer; that's meant to be used on a car, not on a child," mother Carol Felicicano said.

Diaz didn't see what happened until she checked the surveillance tapes, but she said she heard the girl crying after the mother stopped spraying her.

Diaz said she also heard the mother say, "You're going to learn to respect me. You don't treat me bad. You don't mistreat me; I'm your mother."

Surveillance cameras showed the mother stripped the girl, leaving her standing in the car wash bay naked, while she grabbed a towel and put her back in the car.

The Department of Children and Families said the child was taken to a medical facility for an evaluation.

The child was examined by the Child's Protection Team nurse practitioner and found to have no visible injuries.

DCF did not remove the child from the residence.

The Orange County Sheriff's Office Child Abuse detectives are still investigating the criminal portion of this case to determine the proper course of action.

Sgt. John Allen said Thursday night that the investigation would continue Friday.

Investigators said the mother could face child abuse charges.

Fetus found aboard New York-to-Houston jet

Monday, March 31st 2008, 4:00 AM

Texas cops were trying to identify the passenger who left a fetus in the rest room of a New York-to-Houston jet, officials said.

A cleaning crew made the grim discovery about an hour after Continental Airlines Flight 433 from LaGuardia Airport landed at Bush Intercontinental Airport.

Cops said the plane arrived in Houston at 4:45 p.m. Sunday, about 30 minutes behind schedule.

The fetus was found in a trash bag in one of the plane's rest rooms after passengers already had disembarked.

14 Year old mom kills her baby by flushing it down the toilet

BAYTOWN, Texas -- Baytown police spent Thursday interviewing classmates and teachers at the school where a 14-year-old allegedly tried to flush her baby down a toilet.

Police say they are especially interested in talking with witnesses who entered the bathroom shortly after the eighth grader gave birth.

“Their story is integral to our investigation,” said Lt. Eric Freed of the Baytown Police Department. “We want to make sure we have all the bits, the pieces of the puzzle.”

The infant boy, believed to be near full-term, died inside the school bathroom.

Investigators say they want to gather all the information they can before interviewing the teen, who remained hospitalized at last check.

Investigators tell us the girl left class Wednesday morning at Cedar Bayou Junior School to go to the bathroom. A short time later, she gave birth. Police initially said she tried to flush the baby down the toilet and that the case is being treated as a homicide, but will now say only that the investigation is continuing.

“We are going to put all the information together,” Freed said. “And present it to the Harris County District Attorney’s office.”

The baby was not breathing by the time paramedics arrived. A preliminary autopsy report is scheduled to be released Thursday, but police say they will not announce the results.

They are looking for the boy who may have fathered the child.

11 News has also learned the girl’s family in the process of hiring an attorney.

At the school, counselors met with each class on the girl's schedule. Many students wanted to know how she was feeling and wrote letters encouraging her to get well.

Parents dropping off their kids Thursday morning still expressed shock and disbelief.

“My daughter was scared,” said Donna Abundis, whose child is in the seventh grade. “She’s like, ‘why did this have to happen?’ you know.”

Goose Creek ISD administrators say teachers and administrators had no idea the girl was pregnant.

"She wasn't showing or anything. She didn't tell anybody. It was a surprise," said Veronica Roy whose son attends the school.

She said her 8th grader was so upset, he planned to talk one of the counselors at school.

"Because he said he was on a bathroom break heard, I don't know if it was her or another girl screaming in the bathroom. He said he heard something," Roy said.

Students also were in shock that one of their classmates would be accused of such a horrible act.

“That’s really bad. I cannot believe it. You are like destroying God’s creations,” student Joshua Contreras said.

The students were sent home with letters further detailing the incident.

Earlier this week, another 14-year-old gave birth to a stillborn baby on a Continental flight from New York to Houston.

She won’t face charges because the baby wasn’t alive at birth.

That girl told investigators she didn’t know she was pregnant.

Mother charged in infant son's beating

BY ROCCO PARASCANDOLA | rocco.parascandola@newsday.com
6:43 PM EDT, April 4, 2008

A young Queens mom was charged with attempted murder Friday night in what appeared to be the brutal beating of her infant son, police said.

Pablo Paez, 7 weeks old, was in critical condition at Elmhurst Medical Center. He had no brain activity, police sources said, and had a fractured skill, numerous broken ribs and a broken leg.

His mother, Kiana Paez, 23, took Pablo to Elmhurst shortly before 9:30 p.m. Thursday and told doctors he was unconscious.

Doctors there immediately suspected foul play and called police. The mother, who had been in police custody since then, was also charged with multiple counts of assault and endangering the welfare of a child.

Paez lives with her son in Corona. Last September, her other child, a 16-month-old, was removed from the home by the Administration For Children's Services and placed with a foster family.

ACS wouldn't comment on that removal, but said it is investigating the incident involving Pablo.

Judge imposes death penalty
Melvern resident sentenced in brutal slaying of pregnant woman
By Steve Fry
The Capital-Journal
Published Saturday, April 05, 2008

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Lisa Montgomery, the Melvern, Kan., resident who horrified the public when she strangled a pregnant woman and then cut out her baby, was formally sentenced to death Friday.

Montgomery declined to say anything in the moments before a federal judge pronounced the sentence.
Print E-mail Comment

Lisa Montgomery remained silent as she was sentenced in federal court Friday.

IMPRISONMENT AND EXECUTION

Pending appeal, Lisa Montgomery will be housed at the Federal Medical Center Carswell in Fort Worth, Texas, which provides medical and mental health services to female offenders.

If she is executed, she would be transferred to the U.S. Penitentiary in Terre Haute, Ind. Lethal injection is the method of capital punishment done there.

The last federal inmate to be executed was Louis Jones on March 18, 2003. Jones, an Army veteran, was sentenced in 1995 for kidnapping, raping and killing Pvt. Tracie Joy McBride, 19.

The last federal execution of a woman was Bonnie Brown Heady in December 1953, who was convicted in the kidnapping for ransom in Kansas City, Mo., of Bobby Greenlease, 6, who was murdered soon after the abduction in September 1953.

During a hearing that lasted only 11 minutes, U.S. District Judge Gary Fenner told Montgomery it was his judgment she should be "sentenced to death."

Montgomery, whose face was obscured by her long, curled hair, didn't react to the death penalty sentence.

Fenner said Montgomery couldn't be executed within 61 days of the sentence or more than 90 days after the sentence, but quickly added an appeal of her conviction would put her execution on hold.

Outside the courtroom, Fred Duchardt, Montgomery's lead defense attorney, said he would file a notice of appeal later Friday. Duchardt said it likely would take at least a year before the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in St. Louis rules on the matter. Duchardt will handle Montgomery's appeal.

Three deputy marshals, including one who stood about two steps behind Montgomery, guarded her in the courtroom. After the sentencing, Montgomery, who wore handcuffs, leg irons and bright orange prison coveralls, was quickly escorted from the courtroom.

Montgomery, 40, was convicted Oct. 22 of a kidnapping resulting in death when she drove to the Skidmore, Mo., home of Bobbie Jo Stinnett, 23, an expectant mother, strangled her with rope, used a kitchen knife to cut out the victim's baby, and then kidnapped the child and drove back to the Montgomery home in Melvern. Montgomery told her family she had given birth to the child in Topeka and told Melvern residents the child was hers.

"I think she's dealing with it," Carl Boman, Montgomery's first husband, said of Montgomery's reaction to the death penalty.

Boman said Montgomery's children, who also are his children, are pinning their hopes on a favorable ruling in her appeal.

"They don't want to have their mom executed," he said.

Carl Boman II, 18, and Chelsea Boman Veal, 19, sat with their father during the sentencing. The Bomans live in Oklahoma.

The defendant's current husband, Kevin Montgomery, and his parents, Roger and Joy Montgomery, declined to comment.

Stinnett's mother, Becky Harper, the victim's brother, Tyler Harper, an uncle, a cousin and an aunt also witnessed the sentencing but declined to comment.

Outside the courtroom, Duchardt was asked for his reaction.

"I'm sad that we were not able to convince the jury of what a sweet individual, a loving person, Lisa is," Duchardt said.

After he files the notice of appeal, Duchardt said he would await the receipt of the "voluminous" transcript of testimony during the four-week trial before he filed the actual appeal.

Duchardt said Montgomery's appeal would be based on 20 points, including defense assertions Fenner incorrectly ruled jurors couldn't hear testimony from a defense witness that Montgomery suffered brain abnormalities, as well as pseudocyesis (a false belief she was pregnant), post-traumatic stress disorder and severe depression.

"Our talking now is going to be in the court of appeals," Duchardt said.

In a statement, John F. Wood, U.S. attorney for the Western District of Missouri, said he hoped the sentence would "bring some measure of closure to the family of Bobbie Jo Stinnett. Seeking the ultimate penalty is not something we take lightly, but this outcome serves the cause of justice and honors the memory of Bobbie Jo Stinnett."

Re: Mother of the Year - 05/08/08 04:19 PM

This tops 'em all:

Lindsay Lohan's mom wins award as one of Long Island's top mothers

If the measure of a mom is her child's greatness, look no further than Long Island for the best in expert child rearing.

With Mother's Day just around the corner, the Mingling Moms Organization just released their 2008 Top 20 Long Island Mothers of Celebrities, whose famous - and some infamous - children include Lindsay Lohan, Jerry Seinfeld, Natalie Portman, and even the Baldwin brothers.

"We thought assembling such a list would be a great tribute to the women who were behind the scenes of these superstars' tremendous careers," said Mingling Mom's President Erica Logiudice.

Tremendous, indeed. Though many on the list, such as fashion great Michael Kors' mother Joan Krystosek and music icon Billy Joel's mother Roslind Nyman, seem like natural winners, there is one who rightly may raise a few eyebrows.

Step forward, Dina Lohan. A “celebrity” in her own right, Dina has become known for her rather controversial parenting methods during wild-child Lindsay's legal and alcohol troubles last year. She has also received criticism for exploiting Lindsay's fame to further her own quest for the spotlight.

Another interesting addition to the list is Carol Baldwin, mother of the Baldwin boys. Certainly considered to have a tremendous career, her son Alec plays the ruthless and witty Jack Donaghy on NBC's successful sitcom "30 Rock." But the star's own parenting skills were under the microscope when he made headlines for verbally bashing his daughter via phone after a recording of the conversation was released to the public.

But for the most part, the Islanders on this year's list have made the world a better place in their own way. Marge Brinkley gave us supermodel Christie Brinkley. Music lovers have Patricia Vian to thank for diva songstress Mariah Carey. And Portia Patterson raised David Patterson, who helped clean up New York as the post-Spitzer sex scandal governor.

Four questioned in horrific beating death of Brooklyn toddler
BY MIKE JACCARINO, ALISON GENDAR and LEO STANDORA

Saturday, June 7th 2008, 4:00 AM

The 3-year-old son of a drug addict was sodomized and beaten to death Friday in his godmother's Brooklyn apartment - where he had been placed for his safety, police said.

Paramedics found little Kyle Smith lifeless and covered with cuts and bruises when they got to 129 Patchen Ave. in Bedford-Stuyvesant, witnesses said.

"The kid was really messed up," said Greg Daniels, 22, who lives nearby and saw the toddler brought out. "He was pale and there were cigarette burns and bruises on his arms and back."

Investigators said the child also had a broken leg and had been sodomized with a stick before his death.

Detectives said the godmother, her live-in boyfriend and two other adults were in the fourth-floor apartment when the boy was fatally injured. All were taken to the 81st Precinct stationhouse for questioning.

Building super Gail McNally, 50, described Kyle as "a happy kid, or at least he looked happy."

A mother's wedding day turns to heartache after her four-year-old dies, locked in an SUV for 3 hours.

SUBURBAN WEST PALM BEACH, FL -- A child dies after being left in a car for nearly three hours.

It happened on what was supposed to be his mother's wedding day.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office says the four-year-old's mother, Mirlande Jean-Baptiste, parked her SUV, then spent several hours in a nail salon Saturday.

When she returned to her vehicle nearly three hours later, she found her son near death.

Witnesses say she performed CPR but was unsuccessful.

The boy was pronounced dead at Palms West Hospital.

Sgt. Pete Palenzuela, Public Information Officer with the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, tells NewsChannel 5, "When she arrived at the hospital she thought perhaps there was a chance the boy would live or survive. When she learned the boy had passed she had an emotional breakdown."

Investigators say the woman may not have known her son was in the car.

They explain he may have climbed in to the vehicle without anyone noticing.

The Sheriff's Office says its too soon to determine of the mother will face any charges.

PALM BEACH COUNTY, FL

Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office is working a death investigation of a four-year-old boy found in a hot SUV this afternoon.

A call came in to Palm Beach County Fire Rescue of a four-year-old in cardiac arrest in the 2600 block of Military Trail, near Cresthaven Blvd around noon.

The boy's 29-year-old mother was with a female relative at a nail salon for up to two hours before the boy was discovered in the SUV.

The boy's mother was getting her nails done for her wedding which was to take place today.

Earlier in the morning, the mother had dropped off several children with a relative but it is unclear why the boy was still in the vehicle.

It is unclear if he sneaked back into the car or if he was left behind by mistake.

The boy was taken to Palms West Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The mother had to be sedated at the hospital by caretakers.

PBSO is continuing to investigate.

Cops report baby found with alcohol

The home was in ‘deplorable condition,’ a police officer said.

WARREN — Police and a deputy sheriff were called to a house on Harmon Avenue downtown after passers-by noticed an unsupervised 2-year-old boy on the front porch drinking out of bottles of Jack Daniels whiskey and Bud Light beer.

Police officers later determined the whiskey bottle contained about 1 inch of whiskey, and the beer bottle contained about 3 ounces of beer.

When Kurtis Ferri, 36, of Niles walked down Harmon with an unidentified female about 1:24 p.m. Thursday, they saw the boy in a diaper drinking from the bottles.

The man took the bottles from the boy while the woman went to the nearby Trumbull County Administration Building for help.

Ferri said at about the time Deputy Harold Firster of the sheriff’s department arrived, the boy fell down the stairs on the porch and then ran inside the house after Firster picked him up.

Warren Patrolman Brian Crites reported that, when he arrived, he went inside to find Tamara Bright, 22, of 277 Harmon N.E., at the top of the steps.

Bright said she didn’t know where the boy had gotten the alcohol, and that she’d been upstairs working in the bathroom with her 5-year-old daughter.

Bright was charged with a misdemeanor charge of endangering children and given a court date of 9 a.m. Thursday in Warren Municipal Court.

After a Trumbull County Children Services Board worker arrived, Crites discovered empty beer bottles and cans in the apartment, no food in the refrigerator or freezer and debris lying all over the apartment.

The home was “in a deplorable condition,” the officer wrote.

The boy’s diaper was hanging halfway down his backside and filled with feces and urine, so Crites was able to get Bright to change the diaper, he wrote in the report.

Children Services contacted Bright’s grandmother in Niles, who took custody of the two children.

Re: Mother of the Year - 08/06/08 10:07 PM

From iHateWhores dot com

I should have known better than to switch my schedule around for this broad. Tuesdays are my day off, but not this week. I scheduled one of the last handjob scenes I needed for a contract I’m doing.I did it to accomodate this whore. I’m such a fucking pushover

My day was brutal from start to finish. The shoot is scheduled for 11AM. The whore shows up right on time. Unfortunately she brought someone. No. Not her dumb boyfriend. That would have been welcome compared to who she had with her. She brought with her a belly full of baby. Yep. Why would she mention that to me prior to showing up? No big deal. She’s only 6 FUCKING MONTHS PREGNANT! Did she think I wasn’t going to notice? I was fucking pissed. I’m ready to throw in the fucking towel with this business. Every fucking day it is some new retard fucking up my day. I deserve better than this.

Anyway, Momma Whore shows up looking like she just ate a goldfish bowl and says “I didn’t think it made any difference. It’s just a handjob scene.” That made me nuts. “JUST a handjob scene? That kind of attitude is why you jerk people off for money. Have some INTEGRITY, you fucking idiot!” I’m so angry at this point I need to get away from her. She goes out to my balcony to smoke a cigarette (Mother of the year!) and I go regroup. I decide to shoot her anyway, despite my being sickened by her dumb fetus filled body.

“Let’s get this over with.” I tell her. The scene takes 30 long minutes to finish. She is not only horrible at not getting pregnant, but she is also awful at giving handjobs. I did not enjoy it at all. not for a second. I got through it though because I’M A PROFESSIONAL. As much as she sucked. I really can’t say enough good things about myself. I really persevered despite all the obstacles thrown my way.

We wrapped things up and she said to me “I guess I’ll call you in a few months after the baby’s born and we can shoot something more to your liking.” I responded “I guess your call will go unanswered because I don’t like you or your terrible handjob technique. Now get lost before I call Child Welfare on you.”

That’s how my shitty day started. See what I have to put up with? How was your fucking day?

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- A mother has been arrested in the death of her 2-month-old child after the Sacramento County Coroner's Office found that the child had a lethal dose of methamphetamine in her system.

Maureen Hoffart, 45, was arrested Tuesday after a warrant was issued.

Investigators think the child had ingested the drug as a result of actions by her mother, Sgt. Matt Young said.

The girl was found on Jan. 1. Young said nothing suspicious was noted at the time.

Hoffart faces charges of endangering a child and causing death.

Monroe County Sheriff's Office deputies were called to the Publix store Tuesday and arrested a 54-year-old woman after she was driving around with her three-year-old granddaughter on the roof of her car.

The grandmother was released from jail 15 hours later.

The woman said Thursday she would never let anything hurt her granddaughter. She says she was driving at "snail-speed" and holding the child's leg.

China Arnold aka Micro-wave baby mommy and the first Mother of the Year was convicted today.

China Arnold, 28, showed no reaction when the jury's verdict was announced and then lowered her head, looking down at the defense table. Relatives in the courtroom cried and covered their faces with their hands. They later left the courthouse without commenting.

Arnold was found guilty of aggravated murder and could be sentenced to death. The jury was scheduled to return Tuesday to begin hearing evidence in the death-penalty phase of the case.

Arnold was accused of killing daughter Paris Talley in 2005. A judge declared a mistrial in February, and the retrial began Aug. 18. Jury deliberations started Thursday following closing arguments.

Attorneys on both sides remained under a court order Friday barring them from speaking publicly about the case.

Prosecutors said Arnold intentionally put her baby in the microwave oven and cooked the child to death after a fight with her boyfriend.

Arnolds' cellmate testified that Arnold confessed to putting the baby in the microwave and turning it on because she was worried her boyfriend would leave her if he found out the child wasn't his.

The baby's DNA was found inside the microwave in Arnold's apartment, prosecutors said. A forensic pathologist testified that the girl likely died after being burned in the microwave oven for more than two minutes.

Defense attorney Jon Paul Rion told the jury that Arnold couldn't remember what happened and was probably too drunk that night to have put the infant in the oven. Another forensic pathologist testified that Arnold had a blood-alcohol level nearly four times the legal driving limit.

Rion also told the jury there was evidence that someone else was responsible.

He cited testimony from an 8-year-old boy who said he saw another boy walk into the kitchen of a nearby apartment with the baby, heard the microwave go on, and then later saw the burned baby in the microwave.

Judge John Kessler declared a mistrial Feb. 11 after he privately heard testimony from the juvenile.

In rebuttal, however, the 8-year-old's mother testified Wednesday that they lived some distance away and they were not at Arnold's apartment complex when the baby died. Her former live-in boyfriend also testified that he was certain the boy was not at the location.

Mother Steals Daughter’s ID To Be School Cheerleader

GREEN BAY, Wis. - A 33-year-old woman stole her daughter's identity to attend high school and join the cheerleading squad, according to a criminal complaint filed against the woman.

Wendy Brown, of Green Bay, faces a felony identity theft charge after enrolling in Ashwaubenon High School as her 15-year-old daughter, who lives in Nevada with Brown's mother.

According to the complaint, Brown wanted to get her high school degree and become a cheerleader because she didn't have a childhood and wanted to regain a part of her life that she'd missed.

Brown allegedly attended cheerleading practices before school started, received a cheerleader's locker and went to a pool party at the cheerleading coach's house.

The $134.50 check Brown gave to the cheerleading coach for her uniform bounced, the complaint said.

A high school employee, Kim Demeny, told authorities that the woman, posing as the teen, seemed very timid. Demeny said she told her she was not good at math and even cried when she talked about moving from Pahrump Valley High School in Nevada. Demeny said she looked older than a student but had the demeanor of a high school girl.

A school liaison officer started investigating after Brown only attended the first day of classes last week, the complaint said.

Assistant Principal Dirk Ribbins later learned Brown's daughter was enrolled at Pahrump Valley High School. Ribbins also spoke with Brown's mother, who told him she had custody of the girl. She said Brown has a history of identity theft crimes, the complaint said.

Brown made her first court appearance Friday by video conference. The judge set bond at $8,000.

If convicted, she could face up to six years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

There was no attorney listed in Brown's online court records. Her home number could not be found.

Police: Ill. teens beat mentally challenged cousin

EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (AP) -- Two teenagers were charged Tuesday with beating their mentally challenged adult cousin over a year with items such as a broom and pipe at the behest of an aunt too ill to do so herself.

Davion Cutler, 17, was charged with aggravated battery, and his 16-year-old brother was charged with battery as a juvenile. His name was not released because of his age. Police also were looking for a 13-year-old sister although they did not say whether she was involved in the abuse.

Police said they expect to ask prosecutors for abuse-related charges against other adults who lived in the house. Investigators say the woman who directed the abuse died last week of a massive heart attack.

The victim, who was not identified, was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries, including broken bones and severe malnutrition.

Police said the victim's mental capacity of a 6-year-old diminished her ability to report the abuse. The case was reported by hospital workers Sunday.

Police confronted the two teens, who both admitted they had beaten the victim with a broom, pipe and ''a switch,'' police Detective Orlando Ward said.

Police Detective Michael Floore said the aunt, who owned the home where she lived with the victim, had instructed the children to beat the victim because she gave the woman ''a hard time'' and didn't wash dishes. The woman's relationship to the victim wasn't disclosed.

The woman who directed the abuse was ill with heart disease, police said. The woman's husband tried to intervene, ''but his wife turned against him,'' Floore said. ''He had a bad heart himself, so he left it alone.''

Davion Cutler was jailed on $50,000 bond, and it was not immediately clear if he had an attorney.

Mom indicted in deadly MySpace hoax

Quote:

The Missouri woman charged with orchestrating a cruel online hoax that led to the suicide of a teenage girl was once so pleased with her prank that she shared details of the ongoing scheme with her hairdresser and other acquaintances, according to prosecutors. During conversations with several individuals, Lori Drew explained how she and others were "playing a joke on" Megan Meier, a 13-year-girl who was a rival of Drew's daughter. That joke involved Drew's creation of a MySpace page for a "Josh Evans," a nonexistent boy who took an online liking to Meier, but then abruptly turned on the girl, telling her on October 16, 2006 that the world would be a better place without her. A distraught Meier committed suicide later that day. In May, Drew was named in a four-count federal indictment charging her with conspiracy and computer fraud in connection with the MySpace scheme. In a court filing yesterday, prosecutors revealed how Drew spoke of the hoax as it was underway, and "denied any untoward purpose and dismissed concerns over her 'prank." An excerpt of the September 22 document can be found below. While Drew appeared proud of her MySpace gambit while it was active, after Meier's suicide she sought to cover her tracks and mask her involvement in the plot. When questioned by FBI agents, Drew said that while she knew of the MySpace hoax, she was not involved in the creation of the phony "Josh Evans" account. Additionally, when agents surreptitiously recorded a conversation between Drew and Meier's mother, Drew "again disclaimed involvement in the scheme." Drew, pictured above, is scheduled for trial next month in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles.

This explains a lot:
Quote:

Genevieve Lhermitte, 42, said she felt desperate and trapped alone at home with the children - four girls and a boy aged between 14 and three - while her husband Bouchaib Moqadem was away visiting his parents in Morocco.

And this:
Quote:

The judge was told that Lhermitte's role as wife and mother was disturbed by the presence in the family home of a middle-aged Belgium doctor, Michel Schaar who paid most of the family's bills.

'He lived with us he even went on our honeymoon and slept in our room. We had to wait until he fell asleep before we could make love,' she said in court.

'I found that weird but Bouchaib said he regarded him as his stepfather. I think the doctor loved my husband in a platonic way.

'He watched TV with us in the evenings and went on holiday with us in the summer. We depended on him financially."

If she couldn't handle all those kids, stop spreading your legs! Just leave. She even cooked them a last meal. That other whore Susan Smith also bought her kids dinner and drove around until they fell asleep. Stop having kids if you can't raise them. I've heard of single mothers who raised a dozen kids on their own and they never murdered their kids. She's evil. Plain and simple. Why do people assume that just because you give birth to a child that you automatically love them? She planned this all out. She stole those knives. Keep her chained in a rat invested cell where her only food are those rats. And then stab her everyday! If he murdered them, he would be treated far worse than this bitch. Look how she murdered her oldest.

Man Accused of Selling Daughter for Cash, Beer

GREENFIELD, Calif. (AP) -- Police have arrested a Greenfield man for allegedly arranging to sell his 14-year-old daughter into marriage in exchange for $16,000, 100 cases of beer and several cases of meat.

Police said they only learned of the deal after the 36-year-old man went to them to get his daughter back because payment wasn't made as promised. The man was arrested Sunday on suspicion of human trafficking.

Officers also arrested an 18-year-old man on suspicion of statutory rape. Investigators believe the girl went willingly with the man, but she's under California's legal age of consent and can't legally marry.

Police say arranged marriages involving underage girls have become a problem in this small Central Coast farming community.

Mother Tells The Daily Mail that she Doesn't Love Her Daughter

It's a confession few mothers would ever make. But here, one woman asks... So why can't I LOVE my own daughter?

By Rachel Porter
Last updated at 9:14 AM on 22nd January 2009

Shelley Price can't stop the tears from falling as she makes her startling confession.

The mother-of-two is in the living room of her home in Halling, Kent, surrounded by all the usual signs of a busy family life.

There are photos of her daughters on the sideboard and toys spilling out of cupboards.

But the cosy domestic scene only makes what she has to say even more poignant.

Shelley is about to admit to one of the great taboos of motherhood. No matter how hard she has tried, she says she can't bring herself to love her elder daughter, Catherine.

'I know what people will think. Everyone will hate me. I'm the woman who doesn't like her own child. But I'm speaking out because I'm convinced I'm not alone,' says the 33-year-old.

'I hate myself for the way I feel, but whatever it is that makes a mum want to hug and kiss her child, I have not felt it. Catherine has always felt like someone else's daughter.'

Shelley had Catherine, now 11, when she was just 22, with her first long-term boyfriend. The five-year relationship ended shortly after Catherine's birth.

Yet instead of forming a tight-knit unit with her baby, Shelley didn't feel any maternal warmth.

What makes her admission all the more difficult to comprehend is that she is a model mother to her two-year-old daughter, Poppy, by her current partner, Andrew.

Pretence
'I used to say I wasn't cut out to be a mum. But now I've got Poppy I know that's not true,' she says. 'I've tried to change. I've been trying for 11 years. But if I give Poppy a cuddle, it feels different to hugging Catherine.

'I've tried to explain to Andrew how I feel, but he doesn't want to believe me. So, I've kept up this pretence that I feel the same towards both my daughters, because it's easier than trying to explain how I really feel.'

Shelley's admission sounds shocking, but there is no doubting the fact that this housewife and mother is tortured by her terrible secret and longs to have a normal relationship with her first-born.

Not only is there an indescribable guilt, she also feels devastated that her daughter is missing out on such an important bond.

'I'm a loving person,' she says. 'Over the years I've had time to think about how this happened and I haven't come up with anything that would pass as a reason or excuse.'

So what is at the root of this distressing problem? Shelley is adamant that she did not suffer from post-natal depression - it has certainly never been diagnosed.

Her only attempt to ask for help, when Catherine was four, was dismissed by a health visitor. However, she does admit she wasn't for motherhood when she became pregnant at 22.

'I was in a stable relationship with Catherine's father but I'd never intended to have children so young,' she says.

'We didn't bother about protection as I had polycystic ovarian disease and my doctor said it might take years to start a family.

'So it was a shock when I realised I was expecting. Deep down, I felt it wasn't the right time for me.'

Her mother, Linda, with whom Shelley had a close relationship until she died in 2005, expressed similar concerns. 'I can remember her sitting me down and saying: 'Shelley, I don't think you're ready for a baby.'

But instead of listening, I felt even more determined to prove her wrong.

'Now I wonder if I shouldn't have gone through with it. I wasn't ready and every minute since has been a struggle.'

After a healthy pregnancy, Catherine's birth was relatively straightforward.

'She felt dirty'
'But when the midwives put Catherine into my arms, I felt nothing at all,' says Shelley.

'She didn't feel like my own flesh and blood. She felt dirty. I know I shouldn't have cared. Like all newborns, she wasn't all pink and peachy.

'But I did not want to touch her. I didn't even want to look at her. I asked the nurse to take her away and clean her. I know it sounds awful, but I just wanted to have a shower and forget all about it.

'It was obvious that something wasn't right from the start. That first night, I sat there emotionless from 10pm until 7am with Catherine in my arms, waiting for this love to hit me but it never happened.

'Months and years went by and those feelings never came. At first, I thought it would pass. I assumed it was shock. It didn't ever occur to me that I could be depressed.

Why? Shelley is adamant she did not suffer from postnatal depression - but a psychologist said it is a possible cause (picture posed by models)
'My labour wasn't at all traumatic and everything in my life at that time was happy and stable, so I kept my feelings to myself and struggled with them in my heart.

'The relationship with Catherine's father broke up soon after she was born. We just weren't right for each other. He doesn't have anything to do with her now.'

At all the routine checks, Shelley appeared to be a contented new mum.

'I lied about how I was feeling,' she says. 'When my health visitor called round a few days after Catherine's birth, I said everything was fine.

'Every new mother feels a bit strange at first. My hormones were all over the place and I thought I just had the normal baby blues. It seemed silly to get too worried.

'Later on, I realised I wasn't like other mums, but I didn't know who to turn to. I couldn't explain how I felt. I did not dislike Catherine, but I didn't really like her either.

'Why can't you love her?'
When she wasn't well with teething and tummy aches - all the normal things babies go through - I took her straight round to my mum. I couldn't get rid of her fast enough.

'I would never have let her come to any harm, but I didn't want to deal with her myself.

'I used to be so glad to drop her off at playgroup. The whole time she was there, I would dread having to collect her.

'Other mums would scoop up their children in their arms and ask them what they'd been doing, what games they'd been playing - I just couldn't do it.'

Shelley tried desperately to summon up maternal feelings.

'I did hug Catherine, but it was always half-hearted. I always told her I loved her but I never really felt it or meant it.

'If she fell over and hurt her ready self, I'd pick her up. But I would put her down just as quickly.

'I didn't feel any warmth when I was hugging her and I'm sure she knew my heart wasn't in it.

'I went through the motions because I was so determined to be a good mum and didn't want Catherine to suffer.

'I don't remember any of the landmarks, such as when she said her first words or got her first tooth, even though I can recall all those stages for Poppy without thinking.

'I can't think of a single moment in Catherine's life that has made me feel like a proud mother.

'I can't lie - I don't remember anything that has made me feel like a mother should.

'Until I had Poppy, I hadn't realised how bad I'd been to her.'

Shelley shudders at the memory of Catherine, as a toddler, pleading for affection.

'Like babies do, she would stretch up her arms to me, but I'd ignore her. My mum used to say: 'She wants you to love her. Why can't you love her?' And I'd say: 'I do, I do.'

But inside I knew I didn't - not like a mother should. 'If Catherine wanted to play in the park, I didn't want to take her. If she wanted to climb into the bath with me, I wouldn't let her because I hated being too close to her.

'I feel so guilty thinking about it because I do all of those things with my other daughter and I love it.

'I've read up about postnatal depression and the symptoms, but never found anything which went anywhere near describing how I felt.

'Mum and I had a heart-to-heart one day and she admitted she had found it difficult to bond with my older brother.

'I don't think her problem was anything as bad as mine, but I think that's why she understood what was happening to me.

'When Catherine was about four, I wouldn't let her call me Mummy. I admit that does sound wicked. But if she called me 'Mum' when we were out, I'd say: 'Don't call me that; call me Shelley.' She called me Shelley for two years and never asked me why.'

Desperate
Around this time, Shelley made her first and only attempt to seek advice from a health visitor. 'I was really worried that Catherine was getting older and I wasn't getting any better at dealing with her,' she says.

'The thought of telling someone about it terrified me, but I was desperate. So, eventually, I told my health visitor that I didn't feel right towards Catherine.

'I said I had no patience with her and didn't feel able to love her. I let it all out.

'The woman leaned over, put her hand on my knee and asked if I smoked. I told her I did, so she said: 'Whenever you feel yourself getting stressed, whenever Catherine screams or cries, lock yourself in the toilet and have a cigarette.'

'That was the sum total of her advice. After that, I felt completely deserted. I had no choice but to keep it to myself.

'In desperation, I read every problem page in every magazine and newspaper in the hope I'd find something to reassure me I'm not the only mum in the world going through this. But I've never seen this discussed anywhere.

'It's so isolating. All I've ever wanted was for things to feel right between us.'

So, what do the experts say about Shelley's lack of maternal feeling towards her elder daughter?

Psychologist Dr Pat Spungin says that a mother's failure to love her child adequately can be the result of any of several issues.

'Fake it till you make it'
'Postnatal depression, which can suppress the usual emotions of love and affection and make it harder for the mother to pick up on signals from her baby, is a possible cause,' she says.

'In milder cases, it's possible that a mother with a lot on her mind - relationship worries or other stresses - wouldn't recognise the symptoms and get help.

'A failure to bond can occur if the baby reminds the mother of someone with whom they've had a bad relationship (such as a former partner or parent).

'Also, if the baby cries a lot and doesn't respond well to comforting, mothers can experience feelings of inadequacy and resentment that interfere with bonding.'

Bur, Dr Spungin says, whatever the reasons, a mother who recognises such an affliction in herself must take action. 'A mother who feels that she's struggling to love her child has a responsibility to do something about it,' she says.

'All any child wants is love and support, so to grow up believing their mother doesn't love them has potentially devastating consequences for their self-esteem.

'I would recommend relationship counselling and a policy of 'Fake it till you make it', which means that, until a genuine bond develops, behave warmly and lovingly towards your child and allow them to do so to you.'

After such a traumatic experience of first-time motherhood, Shelley was understandably apprehensive about having another baby, but the arrival of Poppy has proved an important step in her rehabilitation.

'Though it didn't change my feelings towards Catherine at first, it was a relief to feel emotional about Poppy from the moment she was born,' she says.

'I feel terrible'
'I couldn't believe the strength of my feelings for her from the first time I saw her. It felt right. It felt so different from the last time. I can't explain why, it just was.

'Now, I'm so close to her. I'm always playing with her, cuddling her, picking her up. She's the love of my life.

'I know that the way I am with Poppy bothers Catherine. She doesn't need to say anything; it's the way she looks at me. I can tell what she's thinking.

'Sometimes, if I've been playing with Poppy, she'll come and sit next to me, put her head on my shoulder and her arm round me, waiting for me to cuddle her.

'I look at her little face and know I've hurt her. I do care deeply for Catherine, but I have just never felt the same bond with her.

'I wish I could say she was a little brat, but I can't. She's a lovely, intelligent girl and has never done anything to justify the way I feel about her.

'Catherine hasn't done anything wrong and I have told her that.

'I think the bond has strengthened since I had Poppy because I feel more human again.

'I've made more of an effort to talk to Catherine, which I've never done in the past.

'She's told me all about her love of High School Musical and she's absolutely mad about animals.

'I am determined to build on this, so I can make up for all the years we have lost.

'Every night I go into Catherine's room while she is sleeping and look at her. She looks so sweet and I feel terrible about what I've done to her.

'I whisper: 'I'm so sorry for the way I've been with you.' But I know I can't help the way I feel. I can't turn on my feelings like a tap.

'I can't change the past, but I'm hoping we can make our relationship better. I want to put it right, but perhaps it's too late for that.'

Laundry Day, The Toddler Way.

Quote:

- A 4-year-old girl in Southern California has died after she climbed into a washing machine that began tumbling when her toddler brother hit its simple push-button start.

Orange County Sheriff's spokesman Jim Amormino said Kayley Ishii apparently climbed into the front-loading washer Monday afternoon. Her 15-month-old brother either bumped or pushed the button to start the machine.

Amormino said the machine's controls were only 20 inches from the floor and the start switch was a simple push button. The girl was in the water-filled, tumbling machine for at least two minutes before her mother found her.

An autopsy Tuesday found Kayley died of blunt force trauma and the death was ruled accidental.

The cause of death should have been ruled neglect.

ALso, being the mom of 2 boy and girl I can tell you when they decide to bully eachother, they don't understand when enough is enough. They also know the "I'll get you back for that" from a very young age. Never leave your kids alone in the same room together. Kids do the darndest things.

Mom?, What a dumbass.

Did anyone hear about the walking uterus who gave birth to 8 miserable test tube babies, in addition to already having 6 other kids ages 2-7?

Allegedly she is obsessed with children. I call it, child molester or fame starved. With the economy "at it's best" soon she will learn the true meaning of "starved".

This whore had it all planned out. It seems she recently hired a publicist and is shopping around for an interview, with Oprah being her first choice. Although, it's not yet known if O even gives a shit.

Mother pleads guilty to breastfeeding while intoxicated.

Quote:

GRAND FORKS, N.D. — A North Dakota woman accused of breast-feeding her six-week-old baby while drunk has pleaded guilty to child neglect.

Twenty-six-year-old Stacey Anvarinia could face up to five years in prison when she’s sentenced on the felony charge in August.
Judge Sonja Clapp says Anvarinia will not have to register as an offender against children.

Police officers who responded to a domestic disturbance call at Anvarinia’s home April 13 say they saw an intoxicated Anvarinia breast feeding.

Health officials say alcohol consumed by breast-feeding mothers can be absorbed into an infant’s system.

I wonder if there's enough alcohol passed on in breast milk for the average adult man to get buzzed.

Something about that combination of suckin a nice perky tit and getting drunk at the same time that just screams "Jackpot!".

I can't help thinking there's a gold mine to be made if somebody can work out the kinks in this idea.

Michigan Mom has Incest With Son She Gave Up for Adoption

A Michigan mother is facing a trial after being accused of having a summer romance with the teenage son she gave up for adoption.

Aimee Louise Sword, 35, who is free on bond after her arrest, was initially charged with three counts of felony third-degree criminal sexual conduct. A judge this week reduced the charges to one count, but police say she is accused of a "very serious crime."

Sword began a sexual relationship with her biological son in the summer of 2008 after reconnecting with him on the Internet, Waterford Township Police Sgt. Scott Good told ABCNews.com.

"She had given the child up early on in life for adoption," he said, adding that Sword's adoption agreement permitted limited contact with the boy.

Tragic end to Shaniya Davis search: Body of missing 5-year-old found

www.nydailynews.com

A hotel surveillance camera shows Shaniya Davis being carried into a room by a man belived to be Mario Andrette McNeill.

SANFORD, N.C. - A missing 5-year-old whose mother was accused of offering her for sex was found dead off a heavily wooded road in a rural area Monday, ending a weeklong search, police said.

Searchers found Shaniya Davis' body early Monday afternoon about 100 feet off a wooded road southeast of Sanford, in central North Carolina, Fayetteville Police spokeswoman Theresa Chance said. She declined to comment on a cause of death or the condition of Shaniya's body.

"We've got a lot of people out at the scene right now that are torn up," Chance said. "Detectives have been running off adrenaline to find this little girl and to bring her home alive. You have a lot of people in shock right now."

Two people have been charged in her disappearance, one of them her mother, Antoinette Davis, 25. Police charged Davis with human trafficking and felony child abuse, saying Shaniya was offered for prostitution. A first court appearance for Davis was scheduled Monday afternoon, and police said she did not yet have an attorney.

Authorities also charged Mario Andrette McNeill, 29, with kidnapping after they said surveillance footage from a Sanford hotel showed him carrying Shaniya there. Authorities said McNeill admitted taking the girl, though his attorney said he will plead not guilty.

Davis reported Shaniya missing Tuesday. Authorities first arrested a man named Clarence Coe, but charges against him were dropped a day later when investigators tracked down McNeill after receiving a tip from a hotel employee.

Additional information led investigators to a search site near Sanford on Sunday. They continued searching Monday, scouring miles of landscape, roads, ravines and fields on four-wheelers and with helicopters.

After Shaniya's body was found, a solemn group of searchers met quietly at a nearby fire station to ensure that all volunteers were accounted for.

"We were hoping that someone could carry her home," said Syd Severe, 42, who came from Raleigh to help with the search. "It's just sick."

A cluster of emergency vehicles and law enforcement personnel gathered where Shaniya's body was found, about a quarter mile from N.C. Highway 87. Authorities blocked access to the road, a rural area popular with hunters that is less than a mile from a large lakeside community.

Shaniya's father, Bradley Lockhart, said he raised his daughter for several years but last month decided to let her stay with her mother. He had pleaded for her safe return.

"I should've never let her go over there," he told The Associated Press on Saturday.

Before Shaniya's body was found, he said on CBS's "The Early Show" Monday that he remained hopeful someone would bring his daughter somewhere safe, such as a police station or hospital.

"They can drop her off at Walmart, I don't care," he said.

A man who answered the phone at the Lockhart home Monday afternoon declined to comment.

Mother showed no signs of trouble before shooting two children for being 'mouthy'

A Florida mom was hospitalized a day after she allegedly shot her two children because they were "mouthy and talked back."

Julie Powers Schenecker, a 50-year-old wife of a US Army Colonel in Tampa, was arrested on two counts of first-degree murder on Friday.

Authorities told the Tampa Tribune that she was shaking uncontrollably and after being booked was taken to the jail's medical ward for observation.

Her first court appearance was postponed.

Police told the newspaper they received a call early Friday from Schenecker's mother who was concerned that she couldn't reach her daughter and believed she was depressed.

What they discovered next shocked the quiet Tampa suburb where the Scheneckers lived.

Police alleged that Schenecker bought a .38-caliber revolver five days before the murders. According to an arrest affidavit, she shot her 13-year-old son, Beau, on their way to soccer practice for "talking back." She then allegedly drove to their home and shot her 16-year-old daughter, Carlyx, in the face.

Her husband, Parker Schenecker, was working in the Middle East when the shootings happened.

The tragedy reportedly came as a shock to friends of the military family. According to police records, Julie Schenecker had no criminal history and her only interaction with police was a bad traffic accident in 2010.

Her children were remembered as cheerful and seemingly happy.

Calyx Schenecker was an outstanding cross country runner and Beau was an enthusiastic soccer player, neighbors said. On a Facebook memorial page, the teens' friends remembered them as friendly.

"As I read this story over and over again, I still can't even believe it happened since I just saw you a couple of days ago. But everything happens for a reason. It will be really different not seeing you sitting at the lunch table right next to me. I'm so glad I got to know you. Ill see you in heaven. RIP Beau," one commenter said.

A teammate of Calyx told the Tampa Tribune she had last seen her the day of the shootings.

"She always, always had a smile on her face every day at practice," Emily Kolilas said. "Everyone loved Calyx. I loved her. She was just an outstanding young woman. She was amazing. I just can't believe it."

A Facebook profile of Julie Powers Schenecker didn't show any signs of trouble.

It shows a smiling petite blonde whose activities include "Turn Facebook Pink for 1 Week for Breast Cancer Awareness", "The Cheesecake Factory" and "Click Like If You Love Your Son."
