Keiko and I lose almost everything - 11/19/04 04:36 PM

hey guys, figured i would give you all an update as to what has been going on with us.

We got back to FL last saturday and stayed the first ngiht at my moms before getting a hotel room and going looking for a place to live. Well we could find anything in our home town so we jaunted off to Orlando for a few days... found a few really nice places there and were heading back to meet the movers at our storage facility when BAM!!! I get rearended by a 17yr old kid driving his dads company's Lexus SUV. my car is a total loss and a lot of the stuff we were carrying with us was damaged. Kei and I were both hurt... but not horribly... mostly neck and back injuries and we need to go back to the hospital in the morning.

we finally made it to the storage place to meet the movers and the begin to unload our stuff.... 75% of the boxes are soaked with an unknown oily liquid (we packed no liquids) and most of them are smased and crushed.... we had a box marked fragile that looked like it was hit with a sledge hammer with a big hole puncturing the center of it. our elertronics, trading cards, collectibles, clothing, heirlooms... everything is pretty much destroyed. I have to go through it all tomorrow and find out the full extent of the damage.. luckly i videotaped them bringing it all out of the truck... the moving company is saying they will only give me like 1300 (i paid 1580 for the move... 500 more than my quote might i add) so i have to go to the lawyers probably monday, and im driving in a rental car till the claim is done on my car.

just figured i would give you guys an update.... im gonna go thank my blessings we are still alive and my computer survived. Kei is really shaken up and kinda barely holding on by a thread right now, i dont think it has all really hit me yet.
miss you all....

what did you agree to-released, declared, lump sum or full value when you signed the papers? the surface transportation board has values for each that the HAVE to pay you or it's nasty, interstate/federal trouble. also, if you had them draw up a non-binding estimate and didn't get tricked into signing other shit, they can only charge 10% above it and you've got a month to pay it off. figure out how many guys in the truck and how many had a CDL, chances are they didn't all have one and the math should work out that someone drove that wasn't licensed to. that is, if the truck was big and they didn't throw it in crates and outsource. i worked for a moving company the summer before freshmen year, if the company was bad enough to break shit, there's something obvious somewhere that they're guilty of and they'll cave rather than possibly get their licenses suspended or have ryder stop renting them their trucks for the peak periods.

I just had a problem similar to this with graebel. They completely lost some pieces to my grand piano, and were two weeks late arriving at my new house. The original driver decided to quit and left the trailer full of my stuff on the side of the road halfway between the states I was moving between. They had to send the police out to find and secure the trailer.

My lawyer did send some silly letters, but I insured everything, so it was okay. They were actually pretty accommodating as they knew I had them by the shorties.

Moving companies are VERY shady. Don't let this go.

In fact I am almost about to get the entire move comped($7,000), on top of having the piano situation taken care of.

Someone journalist needs to do a piece in a national pub about these moving companies. They are fucking crooks.

Good luck.

fucking a... looked them up on the bbb...

Quote:

Some complainants allege the total moving cost exceeded the written estimate price given before the move, items were lost or stolen, or damages occurred during transport. Other customers complain they encountered difficulties submitting damage claims or receiving compensation for their losses. Many complainants allege late deliveries or additional charges were added to the total invoice cost which were previously undisclosed.

The company responds to complaints concerning additional charges by explaining customer had more items than they were aware of when they gave the estimate. The company addresses complaints regarding lost or damaged items by advising customers of the insurance coverage they purchased, and by advising them on claims procedures.

We suggest that consumers insist on a written binding estimate in advance of the move. Be certain that the estimate is very specific concerning the goods to be shipped. It is advisable to purchase additional insurance for lost or damaged goods since the statutory liability is only $0.60 cents per pound.

For moves between states (interstate), if the final invoice exceeds the estimated amount, customer are required to pay only 10% over the original estimate when the goods are delivered, with a balance due in 30 days.

Companies providing interstate moves are required to obtain a moving license through the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. You can file a complaint or verify licensing by writing to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, located at 400 Virginia Avenue SW, Washington, DC 20024 or by calling (888) 368-7238.

we accept all valid forms of sacrifice through InfernalPal.

however our preferred method is usually a virgin for me to implant my seed within to be a vessel for one of my minons... but really whatever you choose will.
