Super Bowl Sex Trafficking & LA Sex Worker Advocat - 02/08/22 10:49 PM

https://www.yahoo.com/news/increased-sex-trafficking-during-super-192003936.html

Some highlights:

Quote:

"There's going to be an excess of vulnerable people in jail as opposed to receiving services," said Soma Snakeoil, a sex worker and co-founder of the Sidewalk Project, an advocacy and direct services organization that works with houseless people in Los Angeles. "Sex work is not human trafficking and human trafficking is not sex work, and conflating the two and then using the idea of human trafficking as a way to arrest sex workers is incredibly, incredibly dangerous."

I like how that one emphasizes sex work and human trafficking are 2 separate things. Too often the Human Trafficking label is slapped on all sex work, because it is a buzz word that leads to funding that has dried up since CL and BP died.
Quote:

In the lead-up to Super Bowl LIV two years ago, the Miami-Dade State Attorney's Office said it made dozens of trafficking-related arrests and recovered 20 trafficking victims. An investigation by Miami New Times found that many of the arrests were of sex workers who were "simply looking to make ends meet."

All the press released stats are always bullshit. They probably arrest a handfull of out of town whores and then just round up the usuals to puff up the #s for the story in the local papers.

Quote:
According to a statement by Kristina Rose, director of the Office for Victims of Crime at the Department of Justice, the U.S. government also funds direct services such as housing and legal assistance to trafficking victims.

Kristina Rose landed herself a plum gubment gig. Her balloon knot .ust be bored as hell.

About once a year, Evansville, IN(nearest city) runs a sting operation to bust prostitution customers. They'd plaster all the mugshots on the front page of the newspaper. A couple of years back they upped the charges to these men(and the rare woman who tried to purchase a whore) from solicitation of prostitution to human trafficking, and upped the punishments for the crime also. Bunch of bullshit of you ask me.

The attitude of people in the comments sections has changed too. Used to the prevailing attitude was "ha ha, look at these ugly, weird looking losers! No wonder they're buying sex" to "thanks officers for taking these pedophiles off the streets. Blue lives matter!"

Probably Sept/Oct so they splash headlines as election season is coming up, to pretend they care about quality of life crimes.

Heaven forbid they round up gang members, getting drugs and crime off the streets. Them people aint payin their fines.

Years back we had an X-Rated drive-in on the edge of town. Outside City limits in the County. Every four years when their was a Sheriff's election there'd be a raid on the drive-in. You could set your watch by it. Headlines and news coverage (The photos always caught license plates on patrons cars leading to public embarrassment). Then after the election the charges were pled down and the owners knew they'd be good for another 4 years.

The irony is that most of the hotels around Inglewood where the stadium is are frequented regularly by Internet hookers off Humaniplex and various LA escort sites. These hookers got chased out of the neighborhood by hotel rates more than any police actions. There is no "track" or hooker walk near the stadium anyway

Faceblaster, do you know if Sepulveda Boulevard (in the Van Nuys area) in the valley is still a track? I am not certain of any other hooker tracks around LA proper, maybe in East LA or South Central, places where I have never been.

The sepulveda track may still have some, but not many. The main track is still lower Figueroa Blvd around the 40s and Long Beach Blvd through Lynwood. USAsexguide has current info on that scene.
