Absinthe makes them interesting to each other and another certain crowd they want to impress. Kinda a hipster sort of thing except, as you know, Gia requires accessories and Absinthe offers all sorts of opportunity to accessorize your consumption with fine things. Some did espresso years ago, Gia is dabbling with absinthe and I pursue and buy moonshine whenever I can get it.
Whatever... to each his/her own. They're all fads. Like your skateboard and Vans and tight black acid washed jeans and the ring in your ear.

Hey, it's Gia. We love licorice, so that explains a lot about absinthe. For him, it's also the chemistry of it. He really knows his libations and can go into great scientific detail far beyond my reach. I'm the Single Malt Scotch (Balvenie! Macallan!), vodka, or champagne person (and my new hood rat guilty pleasure: Hennessey and Diet Cherry Coke.) He's more of a whiskey, beer, or red wine fan.

He hates hipsters more than I do. Dude wears suits and ties and he's the cleanest person I know. I'm not much for accessorizing. I hate clutter. I'm an anti-hoarder. Always looking for stuff to throw out or give away. My counter tops are sparse except for my blender; I like everything sparse and I am ocd organized. (Same for him thank goodness. That was one of his selling points lolz.) Not sure what absinthe accessories you're referring to because the whole sugar cube and igniting it thing is silly and unnecessary for enjoying the drink. It's probably untraditional as well, but I'll have to ask him.
Just got a text from my bf:
"When wormwood was made illegal, absinthe didn't get cloudy, so burning the sugar cube mimicked the cloudiness of wormwood so people would think it's legit. Some people say it tastes stronger. But it burns up all the alcohol which defeats the purpose."

Logical comparison. More like if licorice had an herbal candy taste. Ouza tastes medical to me. Some absinthes are awful and taste more like good and plenty. Mansinthe (no shocker there) and Lurid both come to mind.

actually i think the sugar was for straining it or whatever was made to dilute it somewhat,as well as make it taste less strong.of course this is just what ive read.im sure your bf knows better.

Absinthe accessories are traditionally sterling silver (even over gold) which includes the spoon and a crystal glass. Also, bottle caps or silver topped corks. So yeah, I could see you going for that in a big way.

He's cool. We're still friends. We weren't dating that seriously and I had to return to LA for that's where the girls I shoot live. My work comes first. I can shoot more girls in LA than I can catching them on their visits/signings/escort gigs to NYC.
My current bf and the kinda-sorta bf previously were both this year. Before that, I've been single for four years except for someone in late 2010.
