In Southern California you'll find a lot of former actors and models working in real estate. Okay. I'll put this thread back on track, since the mod has no interest in doing so.
Contrary to what some other posters have asserted, I don't think there's anything Oedipal (or Step-Oedipal) about Luke.
Luke seems to have spent his entire life desperately seeking Desmond's approval. And, after many, many years, he finally came to the understanding that he would never receive the cranky old bastard's blessing. So, late in life, he finally had the rebellion he should have had as a teenager, the cornerstone of which was his conversion to Judaism. But, on a subconscious level, he still seeks Rev. Des' approval. Thus the outing of the whores, the alliance with Shelley and the Holier than Thou attitude in general.

Contrary to what some other posters have asserted, I don't think there's anything Oedipal (or Step-Oedipal) about Luke.
Luke seems to have spent his entire life desperately seeking Desmond's approval. And, after many, many years, he finally came to the understanding that he would never receive the cranky old bastard's blessing. So, late in life, he finally had the rebellion he should have had as a teenager, the cornerstone of which was his conversion to Judaism. But, on a subconscious level, he still seeks Rev. Des' approval. Thus the outing of the whores, the alliance with Shelley and the Holier than Thou attitude in general.

Not so much Freudian as a complete epiphany's declaration.
The man cannot sustain a long term healthy relationship with a woman. His Evangelical crusade against porn WOMEN just illustrates his psychosis.

Why does a Healthy man need a woman? Sex and Companionship.

I don't think it's so much a problem with sexualized women as it is a problem with sex in general.
As you've pointed out, he grew up in a fundamentalist household. By definition, fundamentalists in all religions have a problem with sex, especially when it's other people having it. Luke sees his work in the industry as an attempt to fight pornography, and "un-sanctified" sex in general. And this redounds to his need for his father's approval.
His problems with his step mom preclude any sort of Oedipal complex. I'll grant you his need for a mommy figure, but that's due to his real mom's untimely death more than anything else.

I've had two and only because my fist retired.
I know It's difficult to find a doctor you're comfortable with but having seen more than 4 over that period of time isn't a good thing. It is a good sign that you have sought help but I must say that your pattern makes me think you don't truly believe in the process. I understand it may be difficult for a theologically conflicted evangelist like you to embrace any type of therapy. Trust me, I can tell you from personal experience, when your father passes on you'll probably feel more comfortable with ALL things.

It happened to me that the 7 year old child of a friend of a friend overheard a conversation at a party where somebody I didn't know was talking to somebody else I didn't know about something I had been doing in a country far away. I will never know. Eventually that highly embarrassing information even made it further until it reached... well, that's a secret.
I wouldn't have been that surprised if I had been a CIA operative or a celebrity, but I am as irrelevant as they come.
I'm telling this story to explain why I find it highly unlikely that somebody who is doing porn or who has been doing porn in a distant past will ever be able to bury that past. I'm not saying it's impossible, but I find it very unlikely.
Somebody somehow will always find out about it.

I think everyone here is forgetting that while a porn performer may leave the industry and set up a nice, mainstream job, turn to Christianity and renounce porn, only God can actually forgive them.
Luke is not God, he's just believes he's doing His work, therefore he isn't bound by any moral obligation to allow someone's past to stay in the past. In fact, he seems to take a perverse delight in exposing such people to publicity, so that they can never forget their pasts.
Let's hope that his God rewards him for his efforts.
