State strips credentials of six formerly in law enforcement
Half a dozen police officers, dispatchers and corrections officers lost their credentials Thursday for offenses ranging from viewing pornography at a 9-1-1 center to maintaining a racy MySpace account.
The Oregon Board of Public Safety Standards and Training unanimously voted to revoke the certifications in its quarterly meeting.
The list includes:
Chad Chamberlin, a former Boardman police officer accused of repeatedly visiting a married woman while on duty and maintaining a MySpace account that included separate photos of him in uniform and a naked couple.
Anthony P. Walker, a former Newport police officer accused of repeatedly having sex in his patrol car while on duty.
James Worley, a former Tillamook police officer accused of using the Internet at work for MySpace exchanges, shopping, downloading music and visiting sports Web sites. He's also accused of making inappropriate sexual comments to a dispatcher.
Justin Rose, a former Oregon Department of Corrections employee who was cited for a hunting violation. Although the court dismissed the violation, it turned out the incident occurred on a day Rose had called in sick, saying his wife was in a car accident.
Tracie L. Weber, a former Woodburn dispatcher accused looking at Internet pornography while she was at work, covering for patrol officers so they could look at Internet porn at the dispatch center and having sexual conversations on the phone while at work.
Donald Damron, a former Josephine County corrections officer accused of telling inmates he was walking off the job and asking them, "Can I get a, hell yeah?"
The board also followed recommendations against de-certifying two former Lane County sheriff's deputies, one with two DUII arrests and another accused of helping his son elude police.
Eriks Gabliks, deputy director of the state Department of Public Safety Standards and Training, said the number of de-certifications was typical. He said the board strips law enforcement credentials for three main reasons: "drugs, sex and money."
