Man accused in attack just making porn video, lawyer claims
TITUSVILLE -- A lawyer representing a Brevard County man accused of rape told the jury today his client and the alleged victim had intended to make a pornographic video and sell it.
Christopher Wood, 31, faces life in prison if convicted on charges of kidnapping, aggravated battery and six counts of sexual battery by use of great force.
A jury of seven men and two women was selected to decide the case.
Assistant State Attorney Anna E. Hixon said in opening statements today that Wood lured his wife to the Addison Canal by asking her to help lift a boat motor into a canoe.
Instead, prosecutors said Wood led her into woods where they had sex before he pulled out a video camera, bound her to a tree and wrapped wire around her chest. Prosecutors said Wood also used items such as a knife, a bottle of hot sauce and golf balls to perform sexual acts.
Christopher Wood’s attorney Jeffrey Nuss said the acts were consensual.
Nuss said Wood and his wife were in bankruptcy and faced losing their home if they did not come up with a house payment the following week. Nuss argued the woman agreed to help make a video with a rape scene which they believed would garner more money than a normal pornographic video.
“It’s all an act made to look real,†Nuss said.
