Your Local Porn Store

Snottsdale, Arizona is one fucked up place. They didn't mind Jenna living here, but when she wanted to buy that shitty strip club Babes, the tried to pass laws virtually outlawing porn and strippers.

Neighboring Phoenix is much nicer to smut. Most of the porn stores in Phoenix are in industrial areas where no one cares, stay under the radar and don't make a splash.

My personal favorite is Pleasure World on 40th St. & Washington near Sky Harbor airport. They have a somewhat clean place to buy your smut, but they also keep the "arcade" open with the same disgusting stained machines Reuben Sturman leased them years ago. It also has a "theater" to watch old reels, but it's just too icky to actually sit down and watch something. The place has a mottled history: when the owner died and his wife took over, she stopped paying protection money to Sturman. Depending on who you believe, either Kevin Beech or Mickey Fine sent some thugs to rough the place up, whereupon they bombed the place. Even after Sturman and Mickey Fine were in the pokey, the new owner was indicted on charges of racketeering, money laundering and fraud. The county attorney pressing the case, with whose son I attended high school, fucked the case up, amid allegations that they illegally wiretapped conversations between the owner and her attorney. Ironic that she lived in the Echo Canyon subvidision in Paradise Valley, at the bottom of Camelback Mountain (=caysh). It's pretty much stayed the same for the last decade.

I hope places like this stay around. Porn is getting too comfortable with itself, pretending to "go mainstream" and all. I like the social and physical danger associated with buying porn. No offense to the VOD guys and all, but I think people need to expend a little energy to get their smut. Making smut too easily available has produced things like Stormy Daniels and Eon McKai, and that just can't be allowed to propogate.

I used to buy my porn on 42nd st west of Times Sq before they tore it all down and Disney, etc., moved in. While it was "unclean" and most of the block was deserted, it wasn't really "unsafe" until after midnight or 1. And, not all that unsafe.

Smut shops, a good place just go and listen to what people say.

I recall being in one, and the guy behind the counter was talking about this woman who came in the day before. She brings a sex toy up to the counter and asked if she could pay in food stamps.

Another time, a guy was in there talking to the girl behind the counter about how he found girls with a lazy eye sexy.

"Is this not mean? Do you think these girls know what the title of the movie is, and why they were picked for it? I'd be pissed if I shot a scene and it ended up in a movie called "ButterFace", says the female clerk to another customer while checking in a box of newly arrive DVDs.

Yeah, sometimes it can be fun just to go in and act like your going to buy something, but just listen in on the conversations going on.

I prefer the storefront method myself.

I used to work in a porno store all those years ago. Actually, it was more like a Smutty Wal-Mart, A massive amount of square footage spread across two stories in an old museum building. It was a great life experience because you would learn so much about people. I think from behind the counter in a porn store you learn more about people and your community than any other job you could have. Every dirty little secret is yours to find and discover.... it truly is beautiful.

True. Very True. And a good deal of the people you saw going in there were tourists, easily identifable by the "golly gee" looks on their faces. I imagine they fancied themselves as taking a walk on the wild side.
Now you can still find a good deal of stores just around the corner on 8th avenue, from 40th st and down.

Thank goodness. I couldn't imagine people in NY going out to the boondocks of Brooklyn to shop for smut.

I can't believe Jenna actually took her hard earned money and bought a run down strip club. I actually thought she was smarter than that. If I had her cash, I would move north to Vegas and invest in Casinos. Maybe open up a small one myself and work up, leveraging her notoriety. She needs to bail out of the industry, it's just not that profitable anymore.
