How much does a porn director who owns the rights do a dvd release, but not the distribution (ex. Brandon Iron, etc.) make on average for one dvd release?

Sure they do... and I got some swampland to sell you. If everybody made hundreds of thousands, there'd be 50 million people making porn.

I think it totally depends on what kind of video they own the rights to. If it sucks, or is shot bad, the lighting sucks or the chicks look like shit - they're not going to get 'real' distribution. Besides, most newbies will fuck up the releases and 2257 compliance bull shit or do something illegal which will render the vid un-distributable.

But lets pretend they got all the legal shit right. If you're a newbie there's no way you're going to keep all the rights and get distribution. And here's why. Newbies are a total wild-card in the market because nobody knows shit about them. The only thing that will sell it is the name of the studio on the box. Only then will retailers and consumers buy it ONLY because they trust the brand.

Tell me the name of one guy that nobody ever heard of that walked into a major studio (and tell me the name of the studio) with a video for the first time and walked out still owning 100% of the video and getting real 'balls out' national distribution that made over a $100k in the first year on the vid and I'll drop $20k and shoot a fucking sick gonzo flick in the next two weeks and do the same thing.
