Is Porn ready for HDTV?

Is Porn ready for HDTV? - 10/17/03 02:33 PM

An article that I read today on AdultFYI.com and another article in a magazine about a sweet new camera made me wonder if fans will buy HDTV porn yet? I dont even know anyone that has an HTDV set yet.
The camera is only $3,500 I am sure video companies can afford to use it. It uses MiniDV tapes (which are the standard now.)
What are your thoughts people?

If the creators of the HDTV technology were smart, they would be pushing it on porn consumers, like they did with DVD .

That's where laser disks failed and VHS won.

Just a little food for thought.

You are correct sir, in fact porn catapulted the VCR into popularity in the mid to late 80's.

Did that era have laserdisks? I thought they were more early 90s. Of course the first fight was VHS vs. Beta.

I do believe that In Demand is now offering TWO HDTV channels for PPVS. I know that NWATNA (www.nwatna.com) will be offering a free weekly show on there and a weekly PPV in HDTV. They may have already started that. I would imagine if someone signed up to provide HDTV adult content they would be interested.

It would be a wise investment for the Playboy channel though, if they haven't already.

Look, learn your tech history and stop making me feel old

Seriously, the laser disk first came out in the late 1970s IIRC and was quickly adumbrated by both varieties of the video cassette. For reasons I have never been able to discern it made a comeback in the early 90s, as you stated, and was just as quickly replaced by the DVD.

Well I do know most technology such as cell phones, dvds, etc. are available well before there is consumer demand for them. Just the nature of technology.

Check out this article. I guess basically that every piece of equipment in the process, before the nice new TVs would have to be replaced. Even the best DVD players don't play high def DVDs yet (i think there are some very expensive players, like the article alludes to) that are able to do it, but there are competing standards.

It will come, but it is a still a few years away.
