Here's my bar stool psychologist take. Prostitution is still very much looked down on and labels such as whore and hooker remain dirty words. Though many of the girls who have sex for money on camera also have sex for money off camera, there remains a stigma with doing it off camera and, as far as making things public knowledge, most people draw a distinction between the two.
However, the one way to even the score and remove some of the shame of divulging that you do "privates" or "escorting" is to claim that you get paid so much that even those who would normally look down at you would have to give you props for your ability to get someone to pay such a large bounty for your sex skills.
I actually had a pr person tell me that their client (a top star in the biz) was an escort. She went on and on about how she can't believe how guys are willing to spend big money just to have dinner and conversation with this porn star.
Meanwhile the girl was on every hooker board on the adult scene.

Spot on. I think the fact they assume that telling people they're making huge bucks at it makes it OK is a great piece of self delusion. Picture the scene in Sid and Nancy where they go to Nancy's parent's house. She's spewing all this nonsense about how rich and important they are, but even the kids are starting to shake their heads in disgust. The whores tell us how rich and important they are, but we just shake our heads and think "delusional whore".
I do think it's cool that if I came into some found money that could just be blown that I could bang Ava Devine. Yes. That would be the whore. Feel free to heap scorn on me, but I regret nothing.
