The "value" of CJ, broken down into it's components, is debatable; the back catalog not nearly worth the selling price, Jenna's unwillingness to film new scenes with other men limiting the value, and her recent place in the spotlight reducing the value of unreleased scenes for a number of folks. Whatever contracts CJ possesses (directors and/or performers) can hardly be worth the costs either but I doubt they had what amounts to a "moral clause" given the nature of the company but I imagine there was definitely an appearance provision given how Jenna's name still moves titles (but I'm skeptical as to how many under current circumstances and I'm admittedly a fan).

Jesse Jane and Stormy are the biggest two "contenders" (for lack of a better word) but neither come close, nor are the circumstances favorable these days, to generate as much buzz as Jenna has over the years.

Krystal's meltdown aside, there was clearly an attempt to use the similar look the gal had to best advantage but that only would have worked as a substitute for Jenna, not getting any substantive buzz for her as Krystal. I mentioned her grooming in past reviews (which was acknowledged by some "in the know" as insightful though telling me that there was a lot more BTS to make it happen that few were aware of).

I always found Tera to be attractive but a weak fuck on screen. Her performances are much better these days but her marketing has fallen off too much as Teravision tries to breakaway from relying on her alone as their meal ticket. Like Wicked Pictures was the primary vehicle for getting Jenna her lofty perch in porn, DP (and Adella) did more than all the other companies combined to elevate Tera to her status. She started to gain some recent momentum but her side projects in fashion and such have detracted her focus; the gal/company seemingly trying to be all things to all people and losing out as a result. She still has a lot of untapped potential but...

Some of them are quite good for what they seek to be but they are not what people have come to associate as CJ. The current state of the industry is such that the "evolve or die" attitude pushes incompatible lines on companies like CJ as they chase the industry winners (like Bang Brothers; CJ hiring one of the BB original directors for their Filthy line). With everyone doing it, and doing it cheaper, the marginal rewards seem a bigger risk than simply churning out arty-farty titles to the diminishing crowds.
