Over the years, the psychology of the male porn star has changed for the worse.

In the Golden Age, our porn stars were amused by their jobs, smirked at fans, nodded and confessed that no, they couldn't believe their luck either.

Today's male porn star is a different breed entirely, as I plan to illustrate.

Modern male stars play the girls. They really like having a whole posse of tail chasing them, calling them, messaging them. They get off on the attention and, with a limited male talent pool, they know that by having more girls in their crew, they'll get more work since more chicks will ask to work with them over Male Performer B. They want the girls to love them. They need to be loved by women who are unlikely to respond in that way once the camera is switched to stand by. But it's so ingrained now, it's become almost a game to them. Build their little harem and pretend that yes, they're really that popular with women. This is how they fill the hole in their hearts. And again, ironically, those women who choose not to play along are treated with utter disdain by the male performer who feels himself to be dissed.

Unable to stop this behavior, they have great difficulty forming long lasting meaningful relationships with women either in or out of the business. Show me a porn whore who hasn't received multiple emails/calls/messages from a male stud professing undying love for them, and I'll show you a photo of Pamela Peaks.

Modern male performers are less mature than their peers in any area of society. Ironically they seem less secure in their sexuality than 'civilians' or their predecessors. Call one of them a fag even as a joke, and they're ready to throw down without thinking 'How will I jail time affect my career/ass?'. Perhaps this is down to the ready availability of steroids, and other substances? I have yet to draw conclusions here. Further study is required on test subjects.

This lack of maturity is also reflected in the 'who has the most toys' discussions common in porn. Like gangstas, male porners enjoy flaunting their apparent wealth, with flashy cars, clothes, sunglasses and designer toys. This too is a sign that the concept of 'growing up' or behaving responsibility is beyond many of them. Truly, they are still no more than 15 years old in their heads.

The quickness to threaten physical violence with no thought to consequences, the 'who has the most chicks' attitude and childlike attraction to trinkets and toys is all symptomatic of an underdeveloped level of maturity combined with an over inflated ego.

In the real world, men like these can be found working as DJs, bar tenders in clubs, mall cops and marketing positions.
