I agree about the profit motive but remember, we're talking late 1980's when porn was still moving from theater screens to home video, and the vid rental outfits were being constantly raided. Our local outlets in my area (SF Valley, where this stuff is made) were scared shitless about being shut down for carrying anything that could be found to be illegal, so they simply refused anything with Traci Lords in it.

According to one shop owner he said that he was assured by the distributor that he could carry several titles because they producer had established the correct legal age, but he declined anyway. He said most of the other shops did the same as he did.

That one flick, Traci, I Love You, was the only one produced after the flap so it was the only "sure thing" vid that Traci did. (Her book shed no additional light on earlier vids made after she was "legal")

In any case, I'm just a guy on the street who supports the industry and have no special knowledge beyond what I was told.

BTW, I would bet that the issue had more to do with the fact that the vids were produced by the studio regardless of her true age so the retroactive determination that they were, in fact, legal would cut no slack from the enforcers. Why? Because they were punishing the absence of due care, not the actual production of Traci Lords flix.
