With this stupid bitch, things always boil down to one, solitary throwaway line. This week, the whore says, "I am the new breed."

"New breed" of porno performers? I don't really know what that means, unless it's a reference to the two weeks she spent in the hospital with a major case of anal warts. Or that she stayed off the heroin long enough in high school to remember a few lines from Sartre, allowing herself to claim to be some uber-existentialist. Maybe she'll end up inking herself up like Joanna Angel, another delusional alt.whore.

There are no such things as porno whores who became "mainstream" actresses. Marilyn Chambers found this out. Ginger Lynn found this out, so did Traci Lords. Soon Sasha Grey will learn the same thing.

And what a stretch--she plays a hooker. Stormy Daniels does the same thing, going around claiming she's a "mainstream" actress because she appeared in two films, one where she plays a porno whore, and another where she plays a stripper. I bet that's the kind of acting range that just makes Meryl Streep green with envy.

Oh and if you're interested, read the extremely lukewarm reviews of the whore's performance at IMDB, where it was described thusly, "There has been a lot of talk about the lead actress. Yes she is a porn star, and her acting verifies this...."

Check IAFD, she gets her ass pounded about 1/3 of the time. If she's too stupid to realize this kind of "performance art" limits her to the sweaty warehouses of Chatsworth and Canoga Park, then just sit back and watch the delusions roll over her for the next three or four years, when people stop hiring her, and a personal reality terrifingly sets over her:

If this means there will be more girls like Sasha Grey in the industry, that's a good thing. If there are more girls who are beautiful, articulate, professional, on time, off drugs, and fuck like champ on camera, then I'm all for it. Despite how pretentious and full of herself everyone seems to think Sasha is, that girl's attitude hasn't changed since the day she entered the industry. I have worked with a lot of big name girls when they were just brand new with no name, and I've seen most of these girls egos blow up beyond control. Sasha is just as polite and well-mannered now as she was at the beginning.

I think that by attacking her for calling herself "The New Breed", you are taking what she said out of context. Sasha means that she represents the porn star anti-stereotype: she's not dumb, she's not on drugs, she was not abused (yes you can call her a liar all you want but for the sake of argument I have decided to believe her), and she wants to push the limits of society's view on female sexuality. It's easy to jump on the anti-Sasha bandwagon because her intelligence and unapologetic self-confidence makes people uncomfortable. Porn stars aren't supposed to be smart, they're not supposed to have self esteem, and they're not supposed to be comfortable with what they do for a living. If someone like Sasha-- someone smart enough and driven enough to be doing something else (i.e. something more socially acceptable than porn), chooses porn, then what does that say about women? Could it possibly suggest that we are not all victims forced into this industry by unhappy circumstance? Could some of us actually truly enjoy having sex on camera? Could it suggest that... (gasp!) women are capable of making their own rational decisions that are driven by personal preference rather than the need for a quick buck to pay their drug dealer or for a lavish lifestyle they could otherwise never achieve?

Now personally I wouldn't call most porn performance art, but I respect Sasha's attempt to intellectualize her work. I think that people underestimate Sasha's importance in changing what people generally think about women in the adult industry. It's actually kind of sad that instead of celebrating a positive figure such as Sasha, that we instead prefer to cannibalize our own. But then again, this is XPT.

1. She has a high school education. Why the fuck does it matter if a whore is smart or not? It's not like it's going to affect the way her cunt or asshole stays tight. Who the fuck really cares if she's got a 4.0 GPA if WE ALL know she will take a fucking load to her face the same goddamn way a 1 or 2. pointer would. I lovehate Sasha Grey. I love that she's smart and multidimensional (more on that later). I love her look. I hate the solipsism and pretentiousness. I hate the over-the-top, exaggerated performances.

Yes, I do think she's smart. She's had an intuitive sense of branding and has delivered on her brand from the tender age of 18. She identified a niche market and exploited it (fanbois who need to rationalize the desire to debase women). She's articulate. She has a broad range of outside interests. She's a hard worker and is by all accounts a consummate professional.

That said, maybe she's smoked a little too much of her own dope with the "I want to push the limits of sexuality and give permission to women to yadda yadda yadda". You can do that off-camera, easily. There is nothing in her body of work that hasn't been seen before a million times.

I also can't help but find it a little bit sad that someone with her brains aimed so low. Smart as she is, I'm not sure she fully understands at the age of 21 that her decision to become Sasha Grey will impact her for the rest of her life, and not in a positive way. 200-250k a year, if it's that much, seems to me like a piddly amount to have your choices limited so severely.

The irony (and I know I'm not using irony in the correct sense of the word) is that she would have made a much better high class whore than a porn whore. I think she would have been the rare one who socks her money away while putting herself through grad school and walks away with her privacy intact.

First of all, how can I provide proof when what we are discussing are differences of opinion? I cannot "prove" that what I think about Sasha is "right", I can only say what I think, you can disagree with me, and we can agree to disagree and still walk away with much love in our hearts for each other. Though I am as proud as the next person for my college degree, what purpose has it really served? I went to school and graduated from UCLA with a degree in World Literature knowing that I was going to spend the rest of my life shooting and producing porn. So what good does my degree do me? Does it make my Xbiz articles more articulate or my debates on XPT more convincing? Or does it just give me permission to wave it in the faces of who don't have a college degree? Sometimes I think it's the latter, though honestly the reason is that every person in my family has a college degree-- in fact I come from a family of mostly teachers, so I couldn't bear not finishing college, even though I knew it wouldn't really make a difference to me career-wise. But don't get me wrong, I am very happy I did go to college, because that was really one of the best times in my life.

As far as her dropping her rates: let's not forget that this is a business. Sasha is in high demand and thus can command a high rate, and should do so. If people will pay it, why not?

Sasha doesn't do anything on camera that is new, or groundbreaking. The idea behind Sasha as a advocate for advancing female sexuality is that she DOES these hardcore acts but comes across as someone who does so because it is something she enjoys, something that she might do in her personal life. She does not come across as someone who does gangbangs, double penetration or whatever because she has to. Sasha is a beautiful girl, and we all know that pretty girls in this industry don't have to do the hardcore acts. The extreme scenes are often reserved for girls who couldn't get work otherwise-- thus, they don't really enjoy what they do, and this comes across as sad. Sasha is not a sad character, she is not a victim. She projects power of choice in her actions, and that is important.

While totally possible, I think you miss the obvious. Sasha behaves the way she does not because of her "new breed" state of mind. She behaves the way she does as a means of trying to obtain validation that she "matters." She's insecure in what she does or wouldn't be expending so much effort in attempting to gain validation for her efforts; efforts which basically involve opening up her orifices as amusement parks for our masturbatory pleasure.

Her value to society is simple. She's a whore. She can dabble in acting, philosophy or whatever else floats her boat. But her value, nonetheless, remains that of warm place to shove a cock of six.

I think that by attacking her for calling herself "The New Breed", you are taking what she said out of context. Sasha means that she represents the porn star anti-stereotype: she's not dumb, she's not on drugs, she was not abused (yes you can call her a liar all you want but for the sake of argument I have decided to believe her), and she wants to push the limits of society's view on female sexuality. It's easy to jump on the anti-Sasha bandwagon because her intelligence and unapologetic self-confidence makes people uncomfortable. Porn stars aren't supposed to be smart, they're not supposed to have self esteem, and they're not supposed to be comfortable with what they do for a living. If someone like Sasha-- someone smart enough and driven enough to be doing something else (i.e. something more socially acceptable than porn), chooses porn, then what does that say about women? Could it possibly suggest that we are not all victims forced into this industry by unhappy circumstance? Could some of us actually truly enjoy having sex on camera? Could it suggest that... (gasp!) women are capable of making their own rational decisions that are driven by personal preference rather than the need for a quick buck to pay their drug dealer or for a lavish lifestyle they could otherwise never achieve?

Now personally I wouldn't call most porn performance art, but I respect Sasha's attempt to intellectualize her work. I think that people underestimate Sasha's importance in changing what people generally think about women in the adult industry. It's actually kind of sad that instead of celebrating a positive figure such as Sasha, that we instead prefer to cannibalize our own. But then again, this is XPT.

While I respect you as a professional (and a piece of ass) amongst the industry folk, Holly...yes, this is XPT.

Granted, you'd say the same thing about Bree Olson, and she's just a back water trailer trash whore who allowed the money to ruin her otherwise country girl upbringing. I wouldn't be surprised if her attention-whoring in high school had something to do with her current lifestyle, as I recall she finished out that part of her life in a juvenile detention facility, or something similar.

Exactly. Case in point, Sasha went to UCLA to "lecture" about the porn industry (like a glorified sex ed class on the day a hooker comes to talk). If Holly's right and Sasha isn't really "sad", including her days wandering the Spiegler sty among the walking dead, then I salute her. Unfortunately you can't roll around in the mud with pigs all day and then insist you're not one of them.

Actually, in the first page of Playboy (not so much a TOC because it extends over 3 pages), Sasha was referred to as a "crossover star."
