First time poster, long time lurker.

I'm also a regular at ADT and I'll admit at first I thought some of the shit written in this forum was fuckin' brutal. I like ADT and I'll continue to post there but lately it seems like contributing to the threads there is like walking on eggs-if you offend anyone the thread will get locked faster than a nun's pussy. It's a porn forum for Christ's sake.

Anyway, I like this place and while I don't always agree with what's written here (who the hell does?) at least it seems like you can speak your mind without being shut down.

Ok, I totally disagree that you have to walk on egg shells to post on ADT. I have been on that site for a few years now and found it very rewarding and I've met quite a few online and subsequently personal friends as a result of it. Yes, you do have to show some restraint in posting there but really it is to much to ask that you show your fellow posters some respect be they industry or regular joes like myself. I think the few restrictions on the site are in place for a very good reason and that site has only gotten better in the years since I've joined it. That site isn't a democracy nor is this one correct. You have some rules to abide by and if you can't then don't post there, it's quite simple really. Hope that helps you out.

The only time I feel that I need not fear offending anyone is when the thread is already locked. That happens often enough to make the risk manageable.

Another way to look at it is a user-driven forum vs. a mod- or rule-driven forum. There are few topics off limits by rule here - most "inappropriate" posts are shouted down by users, not shut down by mods.

Several performers/industry folk post on both boards. Even if you're just a fan, it's not impossible to bridge the board divide. Cleetus, Jrv and others post there with the same name as here. Some like Toelicker use a different name, but don't make a secret of it. On the other hand Bornyo got banned within a few posts, but his last post did start with the words "Don't be such an asshat."

As for me, I use the same name there and it's still active, but I am a marked man - they're just looking for an excuse to ban me. I even got an email from Steph a while back asking me to stop posting there. It's interesting to speculate on why she didn't just ban me.

I think the ADT mods have a weak spot, in that they don't know how to deal with satire that may be poking fun at them or their posters. It probably helped that Luke Ford picked up on my satirical posts and gave them a higher profile.

Oh, and BTW, too, but attitude readjustment would be necessary.

Interesting indeed. I've read the topics that you've started there and they're genius. Most of the posters there just don't get what you're trying to do, which is the only reason I can think of as to why you haven't been banned. It's strange enough to think that Steph actually sent you an e-mail asking you to no longer post, but even stranger that one of the mods like Hardware just didn't take it into his own hands and do it.

I've recently thought about signing up an account over there under Random. I'm curious to see if a red flag would be raised resulting in an account under that name being rejected for activation. I don't know the criteria for activation -- by that I mean do they review application beforehand or is it an automatic activation. It's been so long since I signed up over there that I don't remember.

Just from a quick comparison of the two boards this one seems to be much better than adt. It appeared that quite a few threads are locked over there for no reason that I could see. People seem much more down to earth here and a little crazy in a good way

I have yet another account at ADT but I have no respect for the shitty moderators over there. I've been banned more times than I can remember over there. Recently I received a threatening email from that crazy bitch Steph about one of my totally innocent posts. The bitch actually thinks that posting there is important to anyone but her and the other mods and porn sluts. I immediately posted another similar message fully expecing the bitch to ban me yet again. For some reason she did not but its only a matter of time.

Can someone fill me in on the whole banning of IP (is this the right word) thing? I know dick about computers or the internet and it's workings, so I'm not entirely sure what this entails. I always gathered that when someone was repeatedly banned, and the person doing the banning knew it was the same person under different aliases, they could ban the IP so that person couldn't post from the same computer. Is this right? If so, why haven't Steph or Drew banned IP's for people like Simp or Spine? Is it hard to do? Can it cause problems for other people who may just happen to be in the same vicinity?

I'm really curious about this so if someone could fill me in, it would be much appreciated.

It's not hard to ban an IP address, but the problem is that for domestic access a specific IP is rarely tied to one computer these days.

Firstly, dynamic addressing is used by many ISPs. This means that IP addresses are allocated when a user connects and freed up when they disconnect to be reallocated to other users. To successfully ban a user on dynamic addressing, you would have to ban the entire range of IPs their ISP might grant them, and this is very likely to affect the innocent.

Secondly, many ISPs divert web traffic through a web proxy cache to save bandwidth. These are often "transparent", ie they give no control to the user or indication to webservers. With these ISPs, thousands of users appear to be connecting through the same address. It's easy enough to ban, but again very likely to hurt the innocent.

The best example of the limitations of IP banning is IRC, where it's the only means of banning. I once got caught in a ban that affected every cable modem user in the UK. Another example is gofuckyourself.com, which Luke Ford often links to. I've never been able to even browse the forums there, because my ISP proxy is banned.

I was popped there at least twice, maybe more. Looking back, the first time was because my post opened as Ivor described. The other times had to be due to either IP issues OR... a mod recognizing something from here and banning me there.

Then, Jamesn pointed me in the direction of web proxy servers and life has been good since then. Problem is, other than arguing against gun control or topics in tech talk none of the other threads are worth a post.

Anyone who spends much time there would realize that the crazy mods have a major double standard. If you agree with their point of view you can get away with a lot if you fall on the opposite side they they quickly fuck you.I've seem people with over a year posting and hundreds of posts suddenly get banned for something the mods figures is world destroying. Now I can see if they ban someone with 2 posts total but not someone who has been around forever and contributing consistently.There was one case where a veteran poster got into a disagreement with Kylie Ireland. Just a disagreement not a major agrument or flame war. After a couple of posts they settled their differences and kissed and made up...then suddenly after everything was settled the evil bitch Steph came in and banned the dude! I checked and saw the dude was a vet poster and I lost what little respect I had for her.She is just a crazy bitch.

Well I can see this thread is moving along smoothly.

Just for the reccord:
I have no personal grudges with any of the ADT mods and I've never started a thread at ADT that was locked-at least not that I can recall.

I Like ADT. There's a lot of porn stars there who are members and it's great to able to communicate with them. It's the little things there that bug me sometimes. It just seems like I REALLY have to be careful about what I say so as not to offend ANYONE. Not that it's ever my intention to purposely say anything offensive.

It just seems like everything over there has to be so prim and proper. I get the impression that some of the people over there probably wipe their ass even after they fart.

I know that the two times I posted there, I found myself reading and re-reading my posts numerous times before actually posting. See, I was afraid that I would offend somebody. I'm sorry, but when I'm talking porn, I don't want to have to worry about such things.
